I was just wondering - what's your next vacation destination?

My wife, as many of you know is a pharmacist - and she has this idea about going to a place in Paris called Le Meurice. She keeps saying, "Le Meurice for 6 days!" I think that Jay Z song has gotten into her head.

It's getting ridiculous.

Where's your next destination? Mexico? Maui?

This year - Russia and also London for the Olympics. Last year it was Israel and Toronto.

I always try to explore some new place every time. It's a bit difficult because I can't really take more than a week or week and half off at a time, but I try my best. The good thing about that limit, though, is I can usually make two vacations a year... just short vacations.

Northern New Mexico and South Carolina. Last year Sedona, AZ and Vegas.

Before the kids: wherever the heck my girlfriend/wife and I wanted to go; Grand Canyon - Seattle - San Francisco - Chicago - Boston - Memphis - Toronto - Montreal - Denver - the Dakotas - San Antonio. Anywhere and everywhere.

After the kids: Florida...Florida...Florida...

Nowhere. People suck wherever you go.

Toronto is awesome, I go there as much as I can. I've had some wild times up there.

I'm going to try to make it to the World Cup, if possible. I want to take in one of those some time in my life. It's like the Olympics. but deliciously hostile.

I might wait 14 or so years. By then we'll have about 3 times as many good Hispanic players (a group that is crazy about soccer)...being bankrolled by US wealth. And the US will win a world cup before the process of it being a dying empire is too forgone.

We almost got the 2022 Cup here in the States, but we lost in the bidding process to...wait for it...Qatar. Yes, the same Qatar where the average daily high temperature in July and August is 106 degrees.

All the grief that Atlanta got for hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics in 85-95 degree heat will be nothing as soon as footballers start dropping like flies on the pitch. Only three subs per game means that 7 players per side (plus the keeper) will be running around for 90+ minutes in a sauna.

Yes, I'm still bitter. I went to the 94 Cup and the Women's 03 Cup, and was hoping for another one here soon...2022 was looking promising.

Dry heat 105 vs humid 95. Hmmm....

^^

I get 26 weeks off a year built into my schedule, plus 2 weeks to do as I please paid time off...and I still have no idea in hell how this girls travels so much.

I've been discovering NYC lately. Honestly, I've been brutally disappointed. Every time a native tells me about a place that has "the best pizza ever", it isn't. Pretty lame for a place that's supposed to have the best. A hotel is $300 a night (unless I want to stay in Joisey and take the train over ... ha...).

Honestly, it reminds me of a giant ass Disney World. All reputation, no soul...

I just got home from SF. Kentucky the end of the month.

Where else but Chinaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Yeah 14+ hr flights suck, but the country is so big and growing so fast, it's different everytime I go back. Spent the majority of my life in the US, but there's just something in the blood that makes you feel forever tied to the land of your birth.

KY for vaca? there's nothing here! Well bbq if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm going for Rolex in Lexington. Friends + Bourbon + Ponies. It's an Olympic year, should be good!

My dream is to go to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil! I think it will be phenomenal!

But its NYC, the center of the universe!!! This place is terrible unless you are filthy rich, is filled with crazies and its funny to see all the ***** transplants that move here figure out that it sucks living here and wanna go back. Join the club :)

I keep going up there thinking to myself...ok, something has to be cool. People talk as if this is the cultural mecca of the world. I must be going to the wrong places. But, yet...been up there a dozen or so times...each time to a different part...each time disappointed.

Manhatten is the most fake place on the planet. Nothing there interests me. It has no soul. And I've seen a lot of it. Every time I go, I just want to go back to Philly. The only redeeming thing I've seen there is the Comedy Cellar. Probably one of the finest live comedy venues I've ever seen.

Queens is just boring.

Brooklyn gets interesting the further South you go. The Northern part seems to be filled with douchebags and the aforementioned transplant idiots.

Might go see the other boroughs...might not...

I am thinking of going there as well. I went to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, that was fun. :)

Glad to see I am not the only one underwhelmed by NYC. I still go there for entertainment and specialty shopping for things I can't buy where I live, but I don't care for it. It is also one of the ugliest, if not THE ugliest cities I have ever visited. Those dark brown brick tenements are just outright depressing.

Bora Bora
Bora bora is sooo nice. We were supposed to go there for our honeymoon, but we chickened out since it was so expensive.

Everyone goes to Bora Bora to do one thing only. ;) My boys and I got a rude awakening when we thought we'd take a man's trip there a couple of years ago. Heard it was so beautiful, we all spent big money. Found ourselves surrounded by 100's of couples, hardly any single chicks in sight. Then the animal sounds from adjacent bungalows began.:scared: Not a place for just the guys, now I know.

I love Disneyworld... in fact, wife and I are thinking of getting a Disney Vacations Club share. :D Can't you tell that I'm excited to get a DVC??:D:thumbup::love:

I'm quietly counting down the years until a family vacation doesn't mean a trip to central Florida and the House of the Mouse.

That animal sound I think is roosters... that island had many of them... woke me up early dang it!

Every time I go, I just want to go back to Philly.
I know I'm partial, but I'd take Philly over NYC any day. If you're at 3rd and South and need to get across Center City (for example, to the central library), it's annoying but walkable. Just thinking about the walk from WTC area to Penn Station sends me into despair.

And in answer to the original question, I'm Dublin-bound this May :D But I still have 4 months before I start pharmacy school and sink into crushing debt. Might as well enjoy being relatively debt and expense free while I can. Some pharmacists I know don't actually take vacations, they just take off on all of their weekends. I think I'd lose my mind if I didn't get out of town (at least to the shore!) once in a while. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

She keeps saying, "Le Meurice for 6 days!" I think that Jay Z song has gotten into her head.

I might be the only one, but that's hilarious. As a result, that line has been stuck in my head all day now too...

"Le Meurice for......ah, damn it SDN!"

Meh....Vegas...the destination of choice for cheap meetings. Can't wait to leave.
Cheap flights there. When I go to California, I fly into Vegas, spend the day, then make the quick drive through the desert. No need to bother with LAX.

Probably popular with the older pharmacists

Median age for male pharmacists is 51 !

There might be some truth in that....90% of otherDOPS in my system are older than me.....

I just got back from Carlsbad/SanDiego. Next year, Kauai.

Completely random.

I forget which drug it is, but there is a company called Carlsbad Pharmaceuticals. Whoever entered it into the system put in the manufacturer wrong...it reads "Carls Bad Pharmaceuticals."

I laughed.

Where do people go in SoCal? in LA, OC, SD area?

I always think about that scrubs episode when all the old medical directors go to their casino conference!!

As for Vegas:

I assume the vast majority of people reading this are pharmacists or in pharmacy school. You know how to party. (If you don't party for personal or religious grounds, you are respected and please take no insult).

Where is THE destination for people who like to party? New Orleans for one day/few short weeks a year? Brazil with one of the highest per capita murder rates in the world?

Sunny Las Vegas, Nevada, with a party ~365.25 days a year:)
