Hi,

I'm Currently in my 3rd Year of M.B.B.S in a university in Beijing, China and I was wondering where I could go after I complete my 6 years (6th year being the internship). I'm 21 years old as of now, holding a Pakistani Passport. From my research so far, Medical Licensing Exams has their pros and cons. It appears that the key is to find one that suits you're finances and capabilities. Like:

USMLE:

Pros- i, Widely done
ii, Lots of study material available
iii, Lots of people with experience/advice
iv, Can be done from many places

Cons- i, Expensive
ii, 3 steps/too long
iii, May not get Visa for step 3
iv, Matching doesn't favor IMGs
v, One of the most difficult ones

AMC/PLAB:

Pros- i, Somewhat widely done
ii, Enough study material available
iii, Enough experience/advice
iv, Less than 3 steps for AMC
v, Start working(kind of) after step 1 for Amc and clerkship for PLAB (?)
vi, Not as hard as USMLE

Cons-i, Doesn't have as many opportunities in as many specialties as America.
ii, Too saturated.
iii, Jobs unavailable even after years sometimes
iv, Conflicting opinions regarding its relevance

Canadian:

Pros- i, Easier than USMLE
ii, Less saturated
iii, Has ample job opportunities(to some extent)

cons-i, still kinda difficult/many steps
ii, English/French
iii, Too many foreigners (?)
iv, Too cold lol

Japan/Germany/France/Italy/China etc.

Pros- i, Enough job openings
ii, road less traveled
iii, Exotic experiences/diseases (!)
iv, Not as saturated as English-speaking places

Cons-i, No English/Need to learn a new language
ii, Sometimes unwelcoming of foreign doctors
iii, Some hospitals don't want you
iv, Since most patients don't speak English, its difficult
v, Difficult to get in
vi, Not much guidance/advice

(I knowingly excluded South Asia/ South-east Asia and Middle East.)

Now, all things said, the option that seems best is Ireland.

i, Only 2 steps (excluding verification of documents)
ii, Not THAT saturated
iii, Somewhat popular/advice & guidance available
iv, Good pay/jobs
v, Not That difficult
vi, Despite all these, still somewhat new.

So, in your opinions, which one is the best and more specifically, which one would be best for me?

Dunno about Ireland, there are lot of Irish medical students who aren't EU citizens that can't even find a job why would they accept a non-Irish non-EU citizen. Not only that, but Ireland is a small country do you really want to practice there for the rest of your life?

I think the best option is still the USMLE. Even though its hard, it offers you the most opportunities. Canada is out of the option because you need to be a Canadian perm resident or citizen to even apply.

I don't really know a lot about the canadian, Irish and AMC licensing exams, tbh. Could you explain how they work? What are the requirements/difficulties etc ?

Thanks in advance.

I am a pathologist from Myanmar. I have got both MBBS and MMedSc (pathology) in Myanmar. Now I am selected as a government funded pathologist for further postgraduate study in a foreign country. If I go for MRCPath in UK, I need to pass PLAB exam. Can I pass the PLAB because I am not very clever doctor? How many years must I take to pass both steps of this exam? Should I go for MRCPath? Thanks a lot.
