So, I really want to dye my hair white/silver, especially before med school/interviews, etc... but I just got a volunteering gig and they specifically say, hair color needs to be in the natural range. However, I feel like white/silver is in the natural range.

Thoughts? I kind of want to get this out of my system before interviews. Could I dye my hair during MS1 & MS2?

I also have tats and stuff & a super fit body. - you probably didn't need to know that part, but it goes along with my look.

I think it's fine for volunteering as long as it looks somewhat natural. Probably stay away from it during interviews just to be safe.

It's absolutely fine for you to dye your hair once in med school. I was at an interview the other day and one of the admissions people was commenting how at interviews girls just have one set of ear piercings and guys never have any, but then when med school starts he's surprised at all the piercings, etc. It's just about presenting a professional picture during the interview and then you can be you :)

Oh yeah. I'll definitely be professional looking for interviews, natural hair color, no tats showing, no piercings (which don't really wear anyways), etc... But awesome.

I've actually heard from my friend that a girl in his class had dreads during MS1. He thinks she got into the school while with dreads too!!!

Requesting a report from the wise @gyngyn about how many of their interviewees showed up at the interview with unnatural hair colors, and the impression it left.

I have no intent of doing this

You just posted that you have a super fit body. That's a thing that you wrote. Please take some time to consider this, it seems more important to address than your hair colour.

have you never taken a gym mirror selfie, bro? I know, i know, it's probably a psychological disorder, but at least it isn't borderline or anything. ;)

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. Guess, I wanted to brag about my fit body, since I don't have a 4.0 & a 40 MCAT score. lol

I'm hoping for older gay daddy interviewers, obviously.

Good thing so many schools ask for pictures these days ...

Also, do they seriously ask for pictures, like a professional headshot?

Yeah some schools do. Not all of them though. I think it's really just to make sure that the person at the interview matches the application, and for adcoms to have a face to remember later.

Yes they want pictures but it doesn't have to be a professional headshot. I just used passport pictures but any recent, professional picture is fine. (You can have someone take a picture.) Don't just crop any old pic.

We've only had a couple of bleached white/silver applicants at interviews (though their hair appeared a normal color in the application photo).
It gave the impression that they had "toned it down" for the interview. I can't remember if they got in somewhere or not...

Yes dye your hair silver and put in red contacts to bring out the silver in your hair more. Make sure you find the best interview outfit to show off your tatts and bod

An oddish indeed

I can't help but note the irony that so many people who have white/silver hair support an entire hair dye industry for the ability to change their hair color to some other "natural" color. My suggestion: don't waste the time and money dying your hair white or silver. Wait 20 years or so, and it will turn white/silver on its own....assuming you don't lose it altogether. ;)

I know of one M3 with silver/grey hair, but I'm pretty sure it's natural in his case. It's hard to tell, anyway.

btw I just read yesterday about JAK inhibitors (ruxolitinib and tofacitinib) that seems to help hair regrowth.. perhaps there is hope still!

Rogaine & Finasteride & Nizoral shampoo -- Less Shampooing/Conditioning (I only wash once/twice a week)

That's like the 70s gay pornstar look. Times have been a changing.

Ohhhh, does it actually stimulate hair growth or just inhibit, to prevent further loss?
