Why is the HMP shunt active in lactating mammary glands?

in addition to the adrenal cortex, the liver, adipose tissue and the gonads, the hmp shunt occurs in lactating mammary glands. I can understand why it occurs in the other tissues since they synthesize Fats, cholersterol etc.. but i don't understand why it occurs in mammary glands.
