Will the refractive index of air ever change from n=1 as far as the test is concerned?

n1 is air and n2 is a medium. The problem switches from using violet light to red light (IE decreasing wavelength, decreasing velocity, and increasing the index of refraction). I know the n2 will increase, but will n1 change?

Index of refraction does not change. It is defined by the behavior of 589nm wavelength light. Simply shining light of a different wavelength won't change the index of the material.

Also air is so close to 1 you should always assume 1 for calculations.
