My application says status deferred. What does that mean??

Mine changed to deferred the day before yesterday.

If you have interviewed already, it means you are not accepted just yet... They may be waiting on some application materials or may wait-list you to review your application again.

It can also mean that you are on hold. They will look at your app at a later date. Last year I was deferred from August until January when I got an interview. After the interview I was deferred again until July, when I got an acceptance for 2008. Keep in contact with the admissions and keep updating your file. Feel free to call and ask them questions. They are very friendly and helpful.

YESSSSS!!! Interview invite today for Nov. 16. (Going to be a hell of a week, I got Nov 12 scheduled for KCOM)

Ok, so it says in the mail submit application materials within 2 weeks, but I thought we are suppose to bring it with us to the interview?

Also anybody who has interviewed there have any advice for a mode of transportation to get around there? They say there is no cab service from the airport in the email, so how do they expect us to get around??? I was thinking about flying to a nearby bigger city and renting a car, is that a good idea? Ahhh so many questions, sorry guys I am just so excited......

Thanks sooo much who will answer my questions....

Edit: Sorryyyy, one more thing how many LORs are needed to be sent in. It only says pre-med letter and physician letter on the site. I don't have a committee letter, so do I send in 2 science prof ones?

By my estimation the whole interview trip (Plane ticket, car-rental, hotel stay) will end up costing me about $500. WOW!!!!

Well it will be all worth it as long as I get an acceptance. :D

Yeah, itll be worth it. I loved WVSOM. It just didnt seem to workout for me in terms of location/rotations.

I talked to an admission person at WVSOM today (Anette?) she was so overly nice on the phone. I asked her advice on how to prepare for my interview there and her reply was, just be myself!!!. They want to know me as a person, what are my interests, my pet peeves. That sounds so cool, I am looking forward to this interview. She also thanked me twice for being proactive with my application. They made a mistake by labeling my pre-med letter as a MD one on the online checklist.

(OMG the pic I sent with my app. looked like a mug shot, lol).

Good Luck At your interview. It is a really laid back day. When I was there interviews were 3 on 1

Anybody else interviewing tomorrow?

By the way...is there a way to get from bluefield to lewisburg that I don't know about?

I took 217 and the drive nearly killed me....twice.

What with the fog, the winding and the deer.

Hi guys. I was wondering if there's a way to find out who the interviewers will be and how to find out more about them. I want to do all the research, so I'll be well prepared. Thanks for any tips.:)

I had my interview back in November...
Don't worry. They're extraordinarily laid back. My feel of the interview was that it was more of a conversation about my interests in the school and becoming a physician. Nothing even slightly intimidating.

My interview lasted about 25 minutes and consisted of a panel of 3 people, two were physicians. My understanding of the process was that in order to emphasize the osteopathic principles, they try to have a specialist in OMM as an interviewer.

Everything about the school is great -- and I just got my acceptance today(DO letter didn't get there until Christmas break for some odd reason.)

I have an interview on February 18th, and am trying to figure out a good place to stay. Anyone know of a hotel that is pretty close to the school and that isn't too expensive? I saw the link on the email WVSOM sent me that has a website listing hotels, but I would rather hear from people who have actually stayed there! Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! :D

The Brier Inn was more than adequate and just a short drive from the school.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn. Price was the same as anywhere for a Hampton. If you stay at the Briar Inn and tell them you are interviewing at WVSOM you get a pretty decent discount.

I stayed at the General Lewis Inn. It was very close to the school, very comfortable, and with the WVSOM discount, cost about $70, which I didn't think was bad.

I have an interview with WVSOM on March 28th at 8:00. Anyone else interviewing on the same day? Also, does anyone have any tips on preparing for the interview (questions, dressing, etc.)

Any advise would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

My interview at WVSOM was such a pleasant experience. Everyone was very warm and welcoming. As far as how you should dress, the guys wore blue or black suits the day I interviewed and the girls also wore suits.

The interview itself was a panel interview--three on one, which included a physician, a basic scientist, and an admissions person. I was asked why DO, why WVSOM, where I see myself in ten years, interests outside of academics. My interview lasted around 45 minutes. Hope this helps.

hello everyone! I am interviewing at WVSOM on Monday, March 9th and am wondering if anyone else is too :highfive:....who might want to split the costs of the visit.

Ill be flying into Charleston, WV and renting a car from there. I'm also going to get a hotel, and have checked out rates at the above mentioned brier and Gen. Lewis Inn. Any other suggestions/ experiences?

Thanks guys!

Try the Hampton there 2.

Interview 1/16/14!
I'm coming from Portland, OR and staying 5 nights (it's important to me that I explore the community as well as the school since I'm so far from home) and the whole sha-bam put me back about $1000. That was with several hours of research though. I feel WVCOM is going to be a great fit for me so it's worth the investment.

I'm staying the week of January 12th in a hotel 0.5 miles from the school with a rental car. If anyone else is interviewing that week and wants anything (picking up from airport, split hotel for a night or more, or just to explore with me), please reply to this thread

Gosh darn mainlanders and their problems (I kid). Hawaii is as bad as it gets for US, just tack on $500 to that $1000. I won't be hearing back from them about an II until January. None the less, good for you JadeSto, knock em' dead at the interview. Good luck!

Ha I just saw this come up on my Alert tab. Post is from October 2007, lol. Such a wide eyed pre med back then. Now almost done with residency and starting fellowship.

WVSOM seemed like a nice school when I interviewed. I ended up going with Kirksville though, just because they offered rotations back in MI. Can't go wrong with either school. Good luck!

I don't think anybody can call foul for using the search button. Plus, WVSOM is an awesome school.

HaHa. As you can see from the random "C" followed by a bunch of space, I'm quite new (Aka SDN virgin until yesterday) and have never actually used other forums either so I'm poking around a bit figuring this site out. You'll probably see other posts by me that are wonky (wrong thread, wrong date, wrong something silly) over the next few days.

You fool. SDN will eat you alive. Can't you see?!

Current student here, I'm loving WVSOM and everything it has to offer. Good luck to those interviewing and PM me for any questions! Cheers
