Can Zosyn be given IV push? An RN called in this order and I couldn't find any good sources of information about whether this could be done. The patient is home-bound and the RN only goes out to visit a few times a week. Another pharmacy filled the med so I have no idea how the product is being reconstituted. Thanks in advance!

It probably wouldn't hurt, but a 30min infusion was standard before everyone went to the extended-infusion - however it is given 2-4 times per day; what does it matter if the nurse comes a few times a week?

Y'know...Zosyn is a biatch to reconsitute... takes a while..

So are we talking about pushing 3.375grams in 20ml? Or...pushing 100ml of fluid?

I don't feel comfortable with this.
