Conference call the other day said we're going away from techs making prescriptions ready and pharmacist will have to scan barcode and make ready themself. Change to start in June and be complete by end of August. Seems like this will require more staffing since scanning every single prescription takes more time than glancing at ththe product.

On a positive note the PowerPoint I briefly looked at from the call noted that the pharmacist will be moved back into the filling area and a technician will be up front as the primary "cashier" (can't believe how often I end up as basically just a cashier, especially at wellness stores where filling tech can hide in the back).

I'm guessing there was some kind of lawsuit that prompted this change. Wonder how this will work at the terribly designed wellness stores where the filling area is so far separated from the registers. Also, the stores with the camera remote verification? This change will be in place just in time for flu season! My initial guess is promised wait times need to double from what I usually promise and deliver on.

Is this regarding that stupid system where you sit at the pharmacist desk and verify both data and the product via images?

Didn't like that system because the techs were left unsupervised back there

What could go wrong with paying someone $10/hr and letting them work around millions of dollars of inventory and narcotics with no supervision?

No, although I do wonder what will happen to that with this change. Currently in Florida and Arizona pharmacist only has to visually verify the correct medication is in the bottle. Now it will go back to where we have to scan the leaflet and make the prescription ready in the computer when double checking.

Thats how it has been at Waglreens as of right now? Seems kinda crazy that it has been that way.....but I'm used to CVS where we do have to scan every barcode before it is ready.

Only in Florida and Arizona, yes

yes i work in a wellness store and i hate that desk! Our DM was taking pictures of those self check out kiosks because no one uses them and he said eventually they are gonna chop down that wall and make it more open so everything is not so hidden in the back

But i totally hear you on the cashier thing. I used to stay in the back at one of the computers in the filling area but then about 2 months ago our DM said we have to be up front at all times and if we arent then our store manager will get written up and then he said he will write us up. So yes i am the primary cashier in the morning until the 2nd tech arrives. Like i have nothing better to do.

need new job or to leave this wellness store. I really liked it at first but they made all these dumb rules about being up front the entire time and some other things that have completely ruined it for me.

We also have Phlex and idk where these pharmacists verifying are but i catch way more mistakes at final product verification than I should. Its never been the complete wrong drug or anything mostly things that needed a dr call for clarification or they dont check to see if the pt has been getting brand synthroid, dilantin, etc or they are sigs that are cut off or dont make any sense

Between this, the thread, and the Theranos debacle Walgreens is really dumb

I could have saved them so much trouble. You can't fix stupid
