URM IS resident
Low LM 63 balanced out by everything else (combat vet/volunteer/published research/et al.)
TMDSAS submitted: Late June
Interview date range offered: Late Oct - mid Nov

For my fellow low stats peeps, I am n=1 that adcoms do read the other stuff in your app besides the stats. Best of luck to all on here!

I submitted late May and I’m a URM and around the same LizzyM. Hoping for similar news

When were you actually complete?

When were you actually complete?

My LORS, transcripts, etc. we’re all sent to TMDSAS by the time I was verified in late June. I was slightly delayed because my MCAT score didn’t get in until the first week of July.

I interviewed here in early September but still do not see McGovern on my TMDSAS preference rank sheet. Is this happening for anyone else who has already interviewed?

My secondary was completed 06/25. Do you guys think I’m being passed up?
The application deadline is coming up soon, so the schools will probably review all of the applicants that they haven't interviewed yet and send out more invites. Remember interview season doesn't end until the end of December.

II today. Available dates are October 4, November 1, and November 8, but I need advice. I am unsure if I can get off work by this Friday as the interview is very last minute. How much would interviewing before pre-match date help my chances for this school? Thank you

btw I was complete August 19

congrats! Stats?

And i think you should be fine interviewing later, from what I've heard for mcgovern dates don't matter too much for interview

Just got an Interview from here!! This is my first MD school interview and I really cannot believe it! I was wondering if anyone got a confirmation email after they selected their interview date? I did not receive one yet. I am still having trouble believing that they invited me for an interview lol I feel like they sent it by mistake.

I’m in the same boat as you! I’ve been down this cycle due to radio silence from schools until I got my II from McGovern. Makes me more optimistic that I’ll receive the benefit of the doubt from other schools.
But to answer your question, I haven’t received any e-mail correspondence from McGovern after confirming an interview date either. It seems that all the necessary info (lodging, parking, etc) is just transmitted through the school portal, so I would just make sure to check that periodically so you don’t miss anything important.

Can the guest we bring to the interview be a parent? On the interview page of McGovern's portal it only talks about a spouse...
If your parent accompanies you on your interview trip, I highly recommend that they just act as your chauffeur and drop you off. Ask them to enjoy exploring the city, or if they want to do something useful they can try to visit some nearby apartments and see what’s available.
Please, please, please do not bring them in with you, have them waiting in the lobby all day, or have them talking to admissions staff. It will harm rather than help your application.
Even the most helicopter-y of parents will want to be useful and not detrimental to you.Assigning them a reconnaissance task fits the bill, and tell them about your interview back at the hotel or in that long car ride home

Keep your spirits up everyone! I'm a current MS1 and didn't receive my II until October 31st.

It's not over yet! Stay positive!

That’s reassuring. Wondering when you were complete? When did you interview?

For those who have already attended the social before the interview, what would you say the dress code was?

Is it possible to prematch here if you interview after oct 15th? Unsure of how prematch heavy McGovern is.

have not interviewed but to most of these socials just wear like Chinos or nice pants and a polo/button down. You won't come off as too casual nor too dressed up no matter the occasion.

Prematch offers go out into December. So maybe? Especially with this change from November to October it’s going to be hard to predict. You could go to last years thread and see if you can get any information from there.

For social your ambassadors that hang out will probably wear jeans and a McGovern ambassador t-shirt/polo. So honestly don't stress about appearance at the night before social. If you're unsure, a casual button up/blouse/polo will do fine.

It wouldn't matter when you interview at Houston, you just have to rank it high for them to consider you if you dont match.

I know people who interviewed in early September, got into all other schools in November when the prematch date was November 15th, picked UTSW in January and got a letter from UT Houston saying sorry we have to reject you since you didn't rank us higher than all the schools that actually admitted you.

Does this mean completion in August is no bueno? 🙁

It's not advised but I know someone who interviewed at Long, McGovern, and UTMB having completed in August. Interview invites were late though.

wait im confused. so Mcgovern wouldn't accept you during prematch? I thought this school was relatively heavy during prematch

This just sounds like how the match process works, not something specific to McGovern. If you rank X school that you prematched at first and then McGovern lower on your match list in January, then you will be accepted to X school in the match and. All the schools below X school you matched will not offer you an acceptance. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here.

AKA if you really wanna go to McGovern (or any school for that matter), rank them first in your match list.
No. They are not admitting people they have interviewed while others actually admit them but expect people to rank them higher than several schools which have admitted the candidate. So you hold 5 admissions in Texas, McGovern has not said a thing but expects you to rank them higher than the other 5 schools that already admitted you like you are pining for them.

So the question is - if UTSW has admitted you and McGovern did not, do you want to rank McGovern higher since it means you are giving up a known higher ranked school and saying I really want UTH and I want to see if I can get in knowing fully well they didn't think you were good enough for their prematch?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but schools can't see your rank list. And you can still rank schools however you want regardless of whether you prematched or not. So if you prematch to UTSW, you can still rank McGovern higher on your match list without losing your spot to UTSW. Then if you match to McGovern, your acceptance to UTSW is withdrawn. If you match to UTSW, then nothing changes and you go there.

It is doable but how many want to go to UT Houston which did not love you in the first place while many others loved you enough and may even be better schools than UT Houston?

I agree. With all Texas schools costing the same and essentially offering the same education opportunities (yes there are differences but tbh they’re not that big), a big deciding factor could be how much schools want you, ie prematch

Just because you don't pre-match somewhere does not mean they don't want you. You could have been ranked just under their margin for pre-match invites. If you rank your matches, and you had multiple interviews (and even pre-match offers) you will probably get something. All pre-match offers say is "We absolutely want you to attend" they do not say "Hey, you didn't get a pre-match so forget us". If you had no pre-match offers wouldn't you still rank the school you want to go to the highest??

The pre match is just so you get your top choice. 1 reason to prematch UTH over UTSW is location, you might have family in houston and want to stay close to home. Lets say you interview at UTMB UTSW UTH and Tamu you rank them UTMB=1 UTH=2 UTSW=3 TAMU=4. You then get into UTMB UTSW and TAMU. Well. since UTMB was your top choice your app will be withdrawn form UTSW and TAMU to make space for other applicants. I think UTH is just saying to rank them number 1 because they want the people they interviewed to come to their school. And I dont think it is entirely something so personal. They could have prematched someone who they thought would definitely want to come where during ur interview maybe they feel you just applied because its a common app. I think to say they did not like you is taking it far

I think you meant match, not prematch?

Okay, I just got feedback from a frnd of mine at Mcgovern who submitted his primary in July and prob finished in Aug; he got his ii from mcgovern MID NOVEMBER.

To all the late birds including me, buckle up!

Current MS1 here..

In the “for what it’s worth” category: I too interviewed in November and still managed to pre-match. I’m not saying that the timing of your interview is irrelevant, but I will say this..how you interview is more important than when you interview. Best of luck!
