Is 3.37 --> 3.4 sGPA worth $1200?

Posting this on behalf of a friend.

One of my college buddies is finishing up her post-bacc, and she's taken 40 units of science classes so far. She says she brought her science GPA from a 2.8 to a 3.37 (no MCAT yet), maintaining a 3.93 in post bacc work. She's been talking to me about whether or not she should spend $1200 to take 1-2 extra classes to bring the 3.37 up to a 3.4. I want to tell her to pocket the money, since I don't think there's really a difference between 3.37 and 3.4 as a reinventor, but I just want to make sure I'm giving her good advice.

What do you think? Will the 3.37 --> 3.4 make a difference big enough to warrant $1200 + the extra time needed in classes? What would you tell her (in case I show her this thread)? Thanks for your help.

I think that most premeds are so focused on a single GPA number that they lose sight of the forest for the trees. Focusing on a single a GPA number when you are in a PB for GPA repair is misleading and misguided.

I don't have her AMCAS grid, but she says she took 40ish units for a 3.93 GPA. We were both pretty lazy students in college, so I'm gonna safely say her GPA throughout fresh -> senior year is <= 3.0 lol. She didn't mention an MCAT score, so I assume it's not taken yet.

Our "argument" (for the lack of a better word) was that she thinks the 3.4 number is a "milestone" in being competitive, while I really doubt there's a significance between 3.37 and 3.4, especially when she has 40 units at 3.9. I think she sees the 3.4 number as something so close so she wants to go for it, while I think she should save the $1200 instead.

At the end of the day, it's her choice, but I just wanted other's opinions to show her she should spend that time on something else instead.

I paid more for that jump during my postbac, haha. Was it worth it? I dunno. Probably not. In fact, a few people here told me not to waste the money in the first place and they were probably right. It helped me sleep at night so I did it.

Your friend is good to go, and tell her to save the $1200. It's not about the cGPA anymore.
