@TheDataKing

for those who have received secondaries, when did y'all submit TMDSAS?
i submitted May 23rd and it still says "processing" smh

If I did not indicate being disadvantaged on my Primaries, should I leave #3 blank/put N/A? Or should I write about the "experience" portion? Thanks!

Do not leave it blank. Write about a personal experience and its significance in your pursuit of a medical degree.

Is there any advantage to submitting this secondary before my prehealth committee packet gets processed? I've got all the essays done but, the way I understand it, the application won't be reviewed until letters are submitted.

There's really no advantage since they are only informed to review your app when its complete since each applicant has a checklist on their system. Some schools will invite you for interviews before LORs are submitted and some will wait. PLFSOM waits for your LORs I believe. If you want to submit, you could since there's no harm. I would personally use the extra time to revise the essays, etc. But, whatever makes you sleep better

Any women looking for a roommate, please DM me! Or if anyone knows of a forum to find roommates let me know! Thanks

Anyone else still waiting for secondary? Submitted 6/12
Inhale. Exhale. It is very early in the cycle.
If you expressed zero interest in primary care or border medicine, your app may have been set aside to see what else comes in.

Is it okay to copy and paste secondary essays? A&M, Lubbock, El Paso, and UTMB all ask about hardships/disadvantages and I was wondering if I could use the same essay for all prompts, or does that look bad?
Yea. Just make sure they don't have anything that looks like you copied it over haha. Most people do this!

There may be some common themes, so first look very carefully at the wording of the prompt and make sure you are answering the question that school is asking of you.
If your essay fits, go ahead! Watch the character count.
And be SURE you don’t mention one school’s name in a different school’s essay!
The schools all see your primary essay but do NOT have access to other school’s secondaries. :soexcited:

Thank you so much!! I've been trying to avoid copying and pasting, but I don't see how I can write an essay about financial difficulties in four different ways haha. Thank you!

@TheDataKing

I'm having a really hard time answering such a general question. I feel like I have to write about multiple experiences to hit the multiple points that they have in the question, but it's gonna be way too long. Any ideas?

So it looks like the interviews are in person? That's surprising.

Texas Health Education Service has been taping interviews with med school deans, one by one. They call this series "Courage Sessions".

Tune in at 1:00 pm Thursday July 9 for a live session with the admissions dean of Texas Tech El Paso. https://www.facebook.com/txhes

If you watch it live, you might even be able to type in a question relevant to that school. If you can't watch it then, the sessions are all archived. Find them on Facebook.

How long does it take to hear back for an interview? I really like this school but I don't know if my stats are up to par

Submitted my app on 07/09.

For reference I'm an in-state, with lowish stats (3.6, 507), but passion for practicing medicine in under served areas, which I emphasized in the secondary.

@dindy555 have you watched the interview I linked in the post right above this? They answer a lot of questions there and you can see the admissions deans

From what I've seen in past years, it just depends on how much they like you initially. Just cause you don't hear back in 1-2 months doesn't mean you can't get an interview later on an be accepted. Your stats are fine! Just take a deep breath and relax until you hear back.

Your stats are basically right at the median matriculant. I know the accepted applicants stats on MSAR are a little scary, but the matriculant average is a bit lower.

I applied in June last cycle and got invited to interview on the second to last interview date. I’m sure you’ll hear back if you noted your desire to serve a community like the one in El Paso on your secondary. Just have some patience!

Is there a current PLFSOM med student in this thread that I can personally message? I just had some questions I wanted to ask about the institution.

I’m a current ms1. Only 2 weeks into class and we are 100% online, so I might not be able to answer your questions. However, feel free to message me!

Howdy y’all! Hope some more invites get sent out soon.

I just found out one of my classmates is making weekly vlogs on her experience here at PLFSOM. I think she just has the first week’s vlog out. If anyone is interested in learning more about the school, El Paso itself, and how the students are coping with Zoom meetings, let me know and I can send you a link to her vid! Also, she explains our Immersion period pretty well!

Did those who submitted their secondary get a separate email saying you're complete or just a secondary received email?

Is there a link to any adcoms or advisors I can speak to? I am a nontrad student, so my cGPA may be overlooked (Huge upward trend the past two years of a DIY postbacc)
Ms. Monica Galindo would be a great person to contact. Here is her information: [email protected]
