I’ve got a question about the physical examination.

I know I will not qualify because I’ve gotten fat studying for the MCAT and all these application things (I know, lol, but I’ve lost 15 lbs already. I gotta lose maybe 50 ish more lbs for a good body fat % and to be comfortably under the weight limit)

If I am disqualified, is there any way to like still get accepted so as long as I meet the weight requirement before matriculation or something of the sort? Because I definitely won’t meet the weight requirement until next year unless I literally starve myself

Fingers crossed for an II lol this school is awesome

Maintaining physical standards is a basic requirement for military service. Very unlikely they would wave standards for a new applicant.

Focus on a healthy plan to lose weight. If it is not in time then focus on next cycle if USUHS is still something that you want to do.

You can't pass MEPS without hitting weight or BF%. I am fat and still passed. You basically need a 38 inch waist or less to pass tbh it's not a hard bar unless you're like, morbidly obese. I am ~50 lb heavier than my max weight and passed tape pretty safely (though I have been lifting for a while and have decent muscle).

I wouldn’t recommend joining if weight is going to be an issue in your life in the future. MCAT prep is far less likely to make you fat than residency. The military doesn’t have patience for this and it can cause you all kinds of difficulty. You really need to be sure you can meet standards long term before subjecting yourself to that

That's right. Well, we have some patience for it, as evidenced by now only yearly BCAs/PRTs, no real consequences for failures, and a very liberal waiver policy for all sorts of things (thyroid problems, anxiety, transitioning, etc.)

I know that they won’t waive the requirement but I didn’t know if they allow for like a retry of the exam

I actually talked to admissions and and found out that the exam doesn’t impact admissions decision, and you will get a conditional offer if you fail the exam, meaning that by around april/may, you’ll have to get checked again

It won’t- I was chugging a lot of sugary drinks which I normally don’t do to stay awake during MCAT prep. I’m off that now

Wait also I think I’ve been reading the wrong chart for weight for USUHS. Can someone point me in the right direction for what weight corresponds to height? I think I was looking at the Air Force standard but the USUHS standard says it’s the army standard. I may actually only be 15 ish lbs away which I can shred jusy but starving myself lol

They go by Army standard. Google the Army body fat calculator. I passed at like 190lb with a 36.5 inch waist or something similar.

You put on 65 pounds with just “sugary drinks “ and studying for the MCAT?

That’s over 1600 12oz Cokes.

I think you need to take a hard, honest look at your dietary habits and how you deal with stress. MCAT prep is about the least amount of academic stress in a medical career.

One should also scrutinize their own alcohol intake. When I cut out all the beer I was chugging, lost 30 lbs. Switched to whiskey (maybe now a little close to being an alcoholic, but meh . . .)

I have scheduled body composition testing with a recruiter because I got an email saying that I am exceeding their weight requirement. As a 6' male in mid 20s, I found 190lb is the upper limit. My lean body mass is literally 190lb XD. I taped myself and seem like I will pass with no issue.

Waiver? First I am hearing of this haha

*Stares in fluffy disbelief*
