Ok I just had a psychological evaluation and it confirmed me what I have been feeling all my life about me, and I just find out I am dumb and I have a low IQ. They qualify me in the lower range of society, I feel miserable. I am about to finish a bachelor in biology and I always have to sacrifice a lot comparing to the people in the class. No matter how much sacrifice I put into a class, I always get C average grades. I dont know what to do with my life, I am very confuse. I conclude that I will just finish this bachelor and then I will see what doors will open.

Is any one of you in the same boat as me? Or is any one feel this way? how will you cope with it?

No, everyone here has an IQ of >130, how were you allowed to even log in?

A low IQ would make the MCAT and also medical school a formidable task. Maybe you should consider becoming a physicians assistant? This is an occupation that can be tackled much more easily and it also allows you to switch jobs in the medical field. For example one year you could work as a surgical PA and the next as at a primary care office seeing patients and writing scripts just like an MD does. Plus the pay is good and you have less to worry about than being a Dr.

Kim Peek(real Rain man) has an IQ of 73, and he has the biggest memory capacity in the world. He can read 2 pages of advanced material in about 8 seconds...

I don't think you should worry. I think IQ tests are BS anyway..

iq test is a method to TRY to measure intelligence.

don't take it as law.

IQ tests are highly overrated, don't pay too much attention to the score. That said, unfortunately if you can't get above a C average, you probably have to look into another field. My advice would be to first talk to your professors to get their input as to how you could do better in the future.

I wouldn't worry much about what an IQ test says about you. Just bust your ass off to maintain an acceptable GPA and try and get the best mcat score possible. At the end of the day, if you get accepted to medical school - well than that school obviously feels that you are capable of doing the work and that's all the confirmation that you need. Keep your head up and do your best.

I agree with Web MD. I'll give you a tip because I am sympathetic to your cause. If you ever need to search for something here, the answer to the question is probably hydrogen or water. Just keep trying one or the other until you get to what you need. Good luck!

The answer is hydrogen!!!

Edit: Whoops, answered above ^^

Is this a joke?

Is this a joke?

No.

If your friend told you they wanted to be in the health field, but weren't able to get into PA school with you, what would you tell them?

I'm sure you would say: How about nursing? Or maybe be a medical assistant?

At the end of the day. Being a physician is very difficult and many people cannot and should not be in control of the health of others especially if there are others whom are better fitted for the occupation.

you're awesome, keep on truckin', you can be anything you want to be

i award you no points... and may god have mercy on your soul.

OP your not helping your cause by spelling advice wrong in the title lol..

Look.. if this was a thread about a student who had a GPA of 3.6 and up... with that low IQ, then I would tell him to not worry about it

But now we are also talking about a C student... well, there is not much I can tell you.

I dont take these IQ tests seriously, and I dont blame the supposidly low IQ for your GPA, because I know ******s with 4.0s, and geniuses with 2.0s.

You just didnt put in the enough effort, and thats what will keep you from Med school, not a stupid IQ test.

was this IQ test some random test that you found on the internet? Like "Click here to find out what your IQ is and after entering your mailing address, phone number, and email address so that we can spam you, we'll tell you how you compared to your friends!!"

(they're not real IQ tests)

IQ tests are bull$#!* anyway

Sure,

try reading Charles A Murray, cover to cover, on a few of his books on the subject written as a social scientist. The intent of IQ test is to measure "g" which is essentially an intrinsic factor that's tied to one's ability. There's a strong correlation among at least 6 of the 7 traditional measures of intelligence, including mathematical, linguistics, intra-personal, inter-personal, etc (with the exception being kinetics/sports) It is tied, on average, to high school graduation rates, welfare/social service dependancy, out-of-wedlock births, professional success as measured objectively, etc. It is used by groups as diverse as the army for promotions and graduate schools for admissions. Saying "this is crap" is akin to saying "those dang doctors, they don't know anything because one told my cousin he was fine and he really had a sinus infection".

An important part of this is that high, or lower, IQ does not mean a person is "good" or "bad"; but rather it is an indicator of a person's processing speed and abilities; if someone asked me to do a 4 minute mile, I'd try, and then pass out. Same gig with others' efforts to succeed at efforts easily accomplishable by those with really high IQs, whoever they may be.

So basically, what you're saying is, you're a psych major who loves his major way to much?

I believe what he/she was really hinting at was your incredible ignorance as to what physician's assistants actually do. Saying that it is much easier to become a PA is a fairly bold statement for you to have made.

IQ is a great way for deciding people's roles in society. Don't you just love standardized tests? 🙄

What is your GPA and MCAT score in reality?

You should find a way to improve them.

Man, you don't need an IQ test to measure g. All you need is a room full of introductory physics students, some basketballs, and a motion detector or two.

yea your right its more difficult to become a PA. And it must also become even more difficult to attain an RN.

I know what PA's do. I've been in crainotomy's where it almost appeared as if the PA took on a larger role than the neurosurgeon. But at the end of the day, especially for someone who trys there hardest and still gets C's in everything, PA is a more reasonable occupational goal.

An important bit of information would be your age. Measured IQ drops with age, dontcha know.

People like that, are basically ******ed. I watched a whole show on that dude who knew every zip code, area code, baseball stat, just tons and tons of nonsense. He could commit it all to memory with great ease, but when it came to thinking, he was a total *****. You need a lot more than a great memory to make it into and through medical school. You have to actually be able to think.

The IQ test seems to be spot on in this case. He said he doesn't get better than C's. If he's about to finish his bachelors degree and only has a **** ton of C's, it would take an incredible amount of work to get his GPA where it needs to be (work that his IQ score verifies will not be possible). Not to mention that the MCAT would likely kill him if he's only pulling C's in his science courses.

I would suggest becoming a nurse. Decent pay and you're still in the medical field.

No. You haven't.

Agreed. Anyone with even an ounce of common sense knows that smart people do well on intelligence tests, slower people do poorly. They just like to argue, or keep up the good old third grade attitude of "everybody is a winner". YAAAAAAAY, we all win!!!!!!!!

Kim Peek is actually mentally underdeveloped.

OP, how low an IQ are we talking? Are you in the 80s/90s at least or are we talking about below 70 (borderline MR)? You did mention struggling to get C's in school, which fits the MR criterion of your disability having a measurable negative impact on your life.
On the other hand, if you've been able to pull good grades enough of the time to have a decent GPA, you may still stand a chance. A lot depends on the specifics of your case and you really didn't provide enough of that for anyone to guess w/ any measurable degree of certainty how you'd do in med school or even in the application phase.

My bad, I don't know the guy. I was just basing that off of the guy i saw on discovery (or some similar channel). He could memorize anything, but couldn't think to save his life. In fact he had to have help with even the simplest tasks, like getting dressed.
