My husband and I are having "the talk" we can't seem to find alot of info on Veterinarian salary. Anyone have suggestions or ideas on the subject? We have been trying to get him into Vet school the last 2 years and now are thinking about switching to a paramedic.

Hey, I don't know if it helps but I know about how much our vets at my hospital make. They were nice enough to tell me since they know I'm going into the profession.

Dr. A who works 4 days a week about 10 hour shifts with one SX day (small animal) makes about $80,000 (has been working for about 15 years)

Dr. B who works 5 days in a row, then 5 days off works 14 hour shifts (6pm to 8am) and makes $120,000 with no sx days, although working the emergency night shift he/she gets plenty of surgeries in. (Has been working for approximately 10 years)

Dr. C who just started makes $50,000 salary plus a percentage of what he/she makes in profit. I think its 28% but I'm not sure about that. (Has been working for about 5 years)

I live in a city with 300,000 people. Our practice is strictly small animal and we are an emergency practice so we are open 24hrs and have 8 doctors on staff, who all make well over $60,000 a year. But it all depends.

In my experience, the salary at the hospital where I work seems better than average even for new grads. Although comparably we pay our vets better than other clinics in the same area, and we get a lot of business since there is only 1 other vet open 24hrs and people fly their pets in from out in the bush (the boonies and beyond), and the surrounding populations don't have any emergency vets either so people drive 4 hours sometimes to get their pet seen.
