There are tons of asian premeds out there...I used to be one not too long ago. Now I'm just an asian MSI...

im south korean. i guess thats pretty much the same thing since everybody lumps us all together anyways.

I strongly object to your comments...maybe you're trying to be funny, but I (along with many others I'm sure) am seriously offended by what you're saying.

As a south asian who is currently in a relationship with an east asian, I can assure you that the "porn industry" had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my decision to pursue a relationship.

I hope you can be a bit more sensitive and excercise more judgement with your jokes.

it was a joke. as an east asian woman myself, i figured it would be alright for me to poke fun at myself and my peers and some of the stereotypes we have to deal with.

do you guys think that being asian, we are held to higher stds? cuz not all of us have great stats like p-sashimi; it is difficult to compete with incredibly stereotypically smart and diligent students like you. (i am absolutely envious of your stats and meant this in the nicest way possible)

Has this forum been created in response to the highly successful "any asian-indian pre-meds out there?"

yay, singaporeans represent! i'm asian chinese, as you already know, passthesashimi.

i'm east asian and i'm dumb.

I'm half Vietnamese and Chinese. I believe the Chinese make up the majority of East Asian doctors, so we're kind of a majority minority if that makes any sense.

I'm going to have to agree with this one.

Most asian kids go into plumbing or drug sales. There aren't hardly any asian doctors or engineers or businessmen.

edit: and by "drug" I mean meth.

korean here. i must say i have not met 1 single korean at the 7 interviews i have gone. are you out there? or are all asians mostly chinese/ vietnamese/indian? i did read in the MSAR that only 400 koreans, compared to something like 4000 chinese people, get into med school each year...

I don't think there are a lack of Chinese premeds. Just come to one of the core science classes here at Berkeley and you will easily see there are more Chinese premeds than Indian premeds. Statistically speaking however, if you look at MSAR, I was quite shocked to see that last years entering class had more Indians than Chinese people entering med school (however, if you look at California alone, there are more Chinese people entering med school than Indian people).

Contrary to popular belief, California isn't the center of the USA The concentration of Chinese people in California is much higher compared to the rest of the USA. Presumably, the distribution of the Indian population is much different due to geographic and socio-economic factors. In addition, people are coming from different parts of China compared to decades earlier. It is unclear whether regional differences in background and upbringing have any effect on the MSAR stats.

Oh yeah, Chinese premeds represent!

So why are indians rarely included in the colloquial definition of asians. Just a thought. So where are all you asians from and where are you guys aiming. (I'm putting money down for california)

Interesting, I am taiwanese also. I also prefer calling myself chinese because don't want people to mistaken me for pro-independence.

How in the world did this thread get dredged up? I'm essentially 100% Chinese, although both of my parents are from Taiwan and I was born in Louisiana. I'm not pro-independence either; I don't plan to see Taiwan blown to smithereens.

Anyhow, I find it mildly disturbing that among the Chinese in New Orleans, almost everybody is either in or planning to go to medical school. I personally know 15 Chinese attending medical school currently, 34 planning it, and many, many others in residency. Plus, is there a single medical school or hospital you've gone to that didn't have doctors or PIs speaking Chinese?

We need more Chinese lawyers, not doctors!

i'm not Chinese, but Korean.. there aren't much Korean premeds as far as i know..

well at least in Hawaii, that is lol

considering asians make up something like 1/4 of medical students there should be quite a few. i'm asian, but no longer premed... happily

there doesn't seem to be many koreans in med school, but they sure do dominate at dental schools. or at least that's the impression i get from looking at the dental school affiliated w/ my undergrad.

True.. even though we have 7 koreans in my class... I'm the only FOB. There are only 3 in MS2 so we are hoping that incoming class of 2009 includes some korean girls.
