Does anyone know what the work conditions of a General Dentist (educated from U.S.A.) is like in Dubai or Qatar area? Like what the type of case work done, public/private, insurance, and salary?

Also, do they get free housing, car, and all that?

hi, as far as i know they need 3 years of clinical experience in home country or any where and they have some kind of written and clinical exam .

Oh okay, so just a DMD/DDS wouldn't be sufficient for a position? What about cases, conditions and salary? Thanks.

Hey

if u have a DDS it shud not be very hard...ther r tons of american dentist practicing ther....tops u'll have to clear their ministry of health exam(may not need tat am not sure)....u can work in the govt hospitals or start ur own practice or join another established clinic....working hrs i think r pretty gud...am not sure bout the pay....hope this helps

I did my BDS from India , i was working in UAE for 2 years . to get licenced you have to pass a written exam of about 100 questions . then a practical exam with viva , class 2 cavity prep and amalgam filling and sometimes a extraction . you have to take your own patient . but you have only 3 chances at the exam .
exams are conducted 3-4 times a year . they give importance to degree holders from America or cananda or australia ,so you will be paid pretty well . the exam is not hard to pass . preety easy .

good luck

hi perav,

can u share more details about your stay in UAE. I am also a BDS from india and have about 7 years of private practice exp.

I heard that for BDS people..it is very difficult to clear exam of MOH. Do you require some local person influence for getting license..

would appreciate your help.

Is it so that BDS dentist from India are not considered by MOH...

as u mentioned is exam a real easy one ??? do u need to know arabic ????

r u required to have support from some local person ????????

can u share your exp. ..what would be the salary for a BDS dentist with 7 - 8 years experience.

regards

* for any one have license from usa and about 14 other country they don't have to take the uae exams

* u don't have to know arabic

* i think the salary vares according to the experience and the degree you hold , also ur nationalty!@#, if u r native american you will be top paid, then europian , then arab , then indian

* the best is to work in gov. hospital

this is an intersting thread, i never knew this, but will someone tell roughly how much an international dentist would be paid in US$ conversion there?like for US a foreign dentist can make somthing around a 100k working as an associate dentist, how abt there?

hello there

iM FROM India and have completed my masters in Oral and Max fax surgery with 5 yrs of Exp too. right now am in india and want to take the licensing exam / interview at the earliest to practice in QATAR.
Im new here and need some details abt how to apply for the LICENSING EXAM. can ya help?

I had a classmate who's working in Dubai now as a dentist, I can tell you he's rolling all over in mulah now. If I had not migrated to the states last year, working in the UAE would be a dream job.:banana:

and the pay is tax free too!!

One more thing....i talked to an orthodontist from India working in Dubai and he told me to finish DDS and then come to Dubai for work becos American/Canadian degrees r preferred to Indian BDS.My uncle is a HR manager there and he told me if u have American/Canadian PR or citizenship , the pay is 10 times more!

lot of misconceptions....about dream jobs in dubai..

worst mistake in life if you are a youngster and an american dental degree holder and trying to make a life in Dubai!

PM me for a detailed analysis as given by a close friend who's been there and seen it all..

remember, the grass is always greener on the other side...

hi...
i am a bds from india...very confused about what i should do now..whether do my mds here n then apply for a job outside like dubai or apply right away for a job in dubai...what do u suggest...how is dubai...and do u think its worth it

With Indian BDS ur earning potential in Dubai will be very very low.The cost of living in Dubai is so high that my friend's hubby who is MDS in prosthodontics from India working in Dubai is planning to come back to India and start his own clinic since 3/4th of his salary goes towards just rent!!
Talk to people who've been there and make the right decision.
Good Luck!

I had a BDS from the middle east and I tried applying for jobs there (in the gulf in general) .....the pay is much less than what you would get with an american/british/canadian degree..I don`t think the nationality is an issue...its all about the degree! ..you have to take that test and you need at least 3-5 years work experience....most ask for 5 years (for a BDS)!

but then, I got my american DDS, I asked around about working in that area and quiete honestly, its not worth it!!! one of the companies offered 65000 us$ , no tests, although it is tax free but it would be ridiculous for a guy with an American DDS to work for that much money when he can double or triple that amount in the us (at least)! it might make more since for a British Dentist to do so since they make much less money than americans!:D
UAE or Qatar might look rich comparing to its surroundings, but its simply incomparable to the us! ....a bit harsh ...but its the truth!

I am a dentist from Nigeria, Africa with 4 years working experience. I will like to work/practice in Dubai so i'd like to know if i have to do any exams before i'm eligible. If i have to, what are the next steps for me to take now as i am presently in Nigeria. I'd also be grateful if u can fill me in on the remuneration and the benefits of working in dubai for someone presently in a developing country like me. thanks

Dear ZeeZou..
as per present rules of the DOH, 5 yrs of experience are required to practice in dubai. The DOh exams also need to completed before you get the required license.
Also, its always easier to find an employer first, and go for the license through the employer.

fefzie, HYDBDS.. had you also applied for the MSD at Boston, Dubai..?
I recently recieved my acceptance for the MSD in Pros.

yes I had applied in orthodontics but havent heard from them yet..when did u recieve the letter?? and is your fee 40,000$ per year too? how do u plan to finance it? where are you currently living??
Please Personal message me :)
Thanks!

Hey HYDBDS...

are you going to NYU or BUSDM dubai?? If I was you I would choose the DDS at NYU! atleast you know u'll make good money when u graduate in US. From what ive heard dentistry in dubai is not that lucrative enough to pay off our loans in thousands of dollars..unless we spend 15 years doing so!
anyone please throw light on this...
thanks!

hey guyz,

i'm a resident in dubai city, the salareis like this:

if the dentist is a native american or any other west country, the salary will be not less than 9,000 USD in a mounth and will be there medical insurance and a flat for a single or married dentist and that will be in any governmental hospital, and sure this salary will be doubled if you are a specialist. If you are from any other country, the salary will be not less than 5,000 USD mounthly and all the other benefits.

All programs at this univ are not accredited by ADA. Therefore, their certificates will NEVER entitle you for any sort of licensure in the states.

Hi friends,
I´m a Brazilian Dentist and I need information about who works in Dubai in oral implantology, I´m specialist and in 4 months I give my MDS in Implantology. I´m search for great opportunities in another countries.
Thanks

along the lines of international dentistry-

Would an American trained dentist be able to use that degree in the UK or any other European nation? How about in South America? Also, how realistic would it be to be hired as an american dentist in the UK, etc?

Would the Dental degree suffice or would additional exams be needed? Also, would one need to go back to dental schools in that particular country in order to work there? (For any country.)

Thank you for any information. =)

How much experience are they looking for in Dubai. What if I have a BDS with one year experience in India, does that get me a job easily and is it worth it. Thanks.

Hi Thanks for the information but I have more questions.
I am a Canadian citizen with an American degree in dentistry. I hold both a Canadian and US license. Could you lead me to any goverment hospitals in Dubai that would be hiring, how do I go abouts applying. Also, is there examinations for my qualifications? I have 5 years experience.
Thank you

How good a chance do I stand in dubai. What is the procedure for a specialist to get recognized in Dubai. Please help.

Hey, I just read your post of last year. I'm considering a position in a practice at DHCC but reading things on this forum make me nervous/confused
I am a DDS and prosthodontist, US trained Kenyan national. Do you mean to say the salary package in such a place is race based? I worked in the US number of years and there is no such thing as a "Fixed salary" one is compensated a percentage (usually around 30%) of whatever the dentist collects and depending on rate of collections per wage period that figure is factored into whatever one produces ( since insurance companies can pay up to 6 months late.) This has been the scheme in all countries I have worked in ( three of them) and to date I have 13 years experience. This is not the case in the private sector? What actually is the story with DHCC? Is there a centralized payroll at DHCC administration that metes out salaries to doctors in the private practices based on some of the things mentioned in this forum?
Thanks:)

Hi!
I was reading your previous message..
Do you know what the expected salary (2009) would be for a Specialist (Implants and Oral Surgery). UK citizen, UK and US trained, 9 years experience in Dentistry in Gov Hospital in UAE?

thanks!!

Hi Brazilian Dentist!
I too am an Dental Implant Specialist. I was wondering, did you ever find out what the salary/ benefits would be for working in UAE?

It does not matter where you are from or which university you graduated from, we ALL have to do the same test to get a license and work here, north americans, europeans, indians everybody! I got my degree from a country in central america and I'm doing over $130000 a year which is more than enough for me with 3 days off per week, your salary clearly depends on how GOOD you are, and in how you love dentistry...the opportunities are our there for everybody.

hey people do not do this for money, do it cause you are professionals and got a lot to give to this field...

of course 3 years minimum (previous) experience is expected, it's a lovely country, safe, interesting people everywhere it's woth it :)
