Wow, so basically it means nothing in texas to get an interview....

am i reading this wrong? Like NYU interviews 600 and accepts 648? Sorry, just confused....

They apparently accept people w/o interviewing (super stats/maybe their 6 year accelerated program)

That's what i figured... but I was just thinking then an interview invite is a very good sign?!?!

NYU will offer admissions to a few individuals without interviewing them.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and clarify my misunderstanding:

The data posted by doc toothache say that 186 total applied to Harvard (add in total=70 and out total=116).

However, on the Harvard Dental School's website, under the FAQ section, it said Harvard received nearly 1000 applications.

I have the same question....
btw BOXDESKER, did u get an invite from Harvard?

I feel silly but.. I don't really understand how to read these tables??

I submitted my secondary check a little later in the process--about two weeks ago--I have not heard back from them. I'm not expecting an interview, it's mostly so that I can always tell myself that "Hey, at least I tried". That's worth the extra ~$200 it cost to send all my information to them.

What I gather...

Chart #1 - IN STATE INTERVIEWS
# in state applicants / # in state interviews granted / # accepted / ratio

Chart #2 - OUT OF STATE INTERVIEWS
# out of state applicants / # out of state interviews granted / # accepted / ratio

Chart #3 - TOTALS
#in state interviews/ # out of state interviews / total interviews / # in state accepted / # out of state accepted / total accepted / ratio

Good work.

Next project: explain Harvard...

It says.. 1116 out of state, and 70 in state :)

Great information! Thanks :)

..though Pitt's numbers can't be right. 187 out-of-state interviewed and only 40 accepted? That would mean that every out-of-state applicant that was accepted also matriculated. There's no way that's correct..

I agree, its not acceptances its enrolled

that would mean that the acceptance would be a larger number, since acceptances are always more than enrolled. right?

It's definitely not enrolled. Going back to Harvard... they have a class of only 35 students, but the number under the "acceptance" column is 58.

I guess using the same reason it can't be accepted either... I'm sure Harvard wouldn't accept almost twice the openings for its class.

Does this mean if you get an interview at UCLA or UoP then you are almost guaranteed acceptance?

Believe it. name doesn't matter as much as some pre-dents are led to believe. many students who are accepted to instate schools would rather save $200k+ over 4 years instead of going for names. if you do well at any school, you will end up where you want to be. however, if you are on scholarship, then choose the one that is the best fit in other categories.

So based on these data, does it mean that whoever got an interview from UOP last year, finally got accepted?

great info!! wow for some instate schools it seems like if you can score the interview you have a REALLY good chance of getting in

(ex:OSU 107 instate interviews, 79 matriculated/accepted...that's pretty much 8 out of 10 chance you'll get in if you can just score the interview...really good odds!!)

Yeah, UCLA has a ratio of almost 1.0 for in-state applicants. That's insane. I can't believe it.

Where's ASDOH? they interview everybody

everyone gets an interview there???... i was rejected right after i paid my fee (no interview)... maybe they interview everyone for medical?? i dunno but for dental they dont...

Same for UConn.....NICE:D

UoP only grants ~60 out of state interviews?? :scared:

Are these stats really accurate? I mean UMDNJ only gives out roughly 150 interviews? meaning interview=acceptance at that school since a good number of those will probably have multiple acceptances. Was there a typo?

Let's review the numbers; total interviewed 151 (96+55); total enrolled 87 (67+20),

and how can it be that pittsburgh accepts 40 out of staters when there out of state class is 48?

They apparently accept people w/o interviewing (super stats/maybe their 6 year accelerated program)

Even the 7 year accelerated program applicants get interviewed. No one gets in without an interview. And these applicants must also satisfy the GPA requirements and score decently on their DATs.

Last year at Iowa were about 80 and they accepted about 25 (since they have 15 seats for outers) out-of-staters so it's not 1.5 ratio it's even more ... 3. smth

From the Pitt interview:

For the most recent year, there were 49 Out-Of-State for Pitt, 31 In-State.

330 total interviews, 210 accepted, 80 matriculated.
(about 2/3 chance of acceptance with an interview)

They try to fill half the class Pre-Dec. 1st, half the class after.

This info isn't in the ADEA book, it's straight from the horses mouth :)

so minnesota residents have a 80% chance of getting admitted to the u of m if they recieve an interview and wisconsin residents have a 43% chance of getting admitted to marquette if interviewed. Wow, i want to move to minnesota because there is an obvious advantage there.

i'm assuming these are the total students interviewed, meaning pre and post december interviews, so if you were to get a pre-decemeber interview, your chances of being accepted are even better than the stats show in the table for most schools? for instance, marquette accepted 70 out of state kids out of 200 interviews total. for pre-december, they interviewed less people so our odds are better than 70/200 right? I'm trying to help the pre-december interviewers feel like the odds are with them rather than against, am i right though?

Well if you're talking about Marquette in particular, they will fill a majority of their class from Pre-Dec. 1st interviews, and they usually fill the entire class by January 15th. Any interviews given at this point are likely for waitlist spots.

For most other schools, the situation is less grim.

This thread makes me very happy but I will still knock on wood just in case. I'm in-state with an interview at BU.
