Can i include this as volunteering?

I recently went through a fire academy at my local fire department during my first year of undergrad. After we finished the class, but before we received our certifications from the state, we were able to do ride-along time with the department. I was now offered a job at the department( i will mostly be driving the ambulances as an EMT). the other guys offered only rode along for 30 hrs or so while i did for a few hundred. Can i include this as volunteering experience because i was not getting paid? I am also currently working in the emergency department at a hospital as a tech so i believe i will have plenty of clinical experience. My question is can i include this fire dept ride along as my volunteering experience? I know a lot of people volunteer at hospitals, but i already work at one and i was hoping i could use this.
