Anyone know which Chicago programs are less competitive?

MHO is that the MOST competitive ones are U Chicago and Christ.

Cook County, Northwestern, UIC and Resurrection might be a notch below, in descending order.

Additional input welcome.

What's wrong with Resurrection?? If it sucks, let me know.

off the topic, but if anyone aspires to be an attending at northwestern, you better go to their program. aside from one graduate from cook and one from uofc, they're all NU EM grads.

Nothing's wrong with Resurrection. The question was not which are the BAD programs in Chicago, but which are the least competitive ones as far as obtaining a position.

Again, I am only posting my own impressions. U of Chicago is one of the older programs around, and is where Rosen was in charge until he moved on to Denver. Christ is located in suburban-like Oak Lawn, but gets all the hard trauma funnelled into it from the inner city. The one time I visited their site, their residents all had superstar-like numbers and resumes.

Cook County is a great place to train, and has several big names that were trained by Rosen. When I spent a month there, I thought that the faculty gave some of the best conference presentations I had seen anywhere. They have a large number of slots (18), so I think it might be a little less competitive than my top two, although only by a hair. UIC is an outstanding program, and I really don't know much about Northwestern. The only reason I listed Resurrection last is because it didn't fill all it's slots a year ago, which certainly says nothing about its ability to turn out good ED docs.

I did a four week rotation at Resurrection and I can say that it is a really solid program. It has a very homey feeling to it, everyone seems to get along and they're close. The attendings are very good for the most part and the facillities are certainly much nicer than the county programs. I think it is less competitive because it is a newer program and small. I think you would certainly get a very good education though, and I think its reputation is going to grow. Just my two cents.
