Hello SDN,
So I had built a strong enough relationship with my prehealth advisor of four years and a science faculty professor to be confident in their ability to write a strong LOR. Very recently, both got fired.
Additionally, due to a lot of changes to my school's health advising office...
About 1 year ago, I asked a science professor for a lor and he said he would DEFINITELY write it over the summer. I reminded him before summer as well. But recently, when I tried to get a committee interview, the staff told me that I did not have the required 2 science letters. I emailed that...
Most schools ask for a LOR from a dentist. I have shadowed an Orthodontist and I know that he would write me a stellar LOR. Is it preferred to have a general dentist write the LOR? Or would it probably be looked at about the same?
Did anyone do one or the other considering what would be better...
Hey all, pretty straight forward question that I can't find the answer to. Any advice about Dermatology aways and when to schedule them would be great as well. Thanks so much!
Currently a sophomore and won't be applying till next year but I still want to ask for LOR's now since I did really well in my core science classes. Since I don't have an application ready, is there anywhere I should ask my professors to send my letter so it can be stored for future use?
And...
I wanted to ask for a letter of rec from my neuroanatomy professor. Unfortunately the class is listed under the psych department, despite the fact that it's 100% biology of the brain. Would this work as one of my 2 letters of rec from a science professor?
Here's my situation:
I'm applying to post bacc programs now and one of them I just found out about has a Nov. 1st deadline. However they require two LORs which I was not expecting. I have two professors in mind that I want to ask but I want to ask them asap so they can have time to do it...
I am applying to urology this cycle and only have 2 letters of recommendation uploaded so far. I am waiting on my other letter writers to upload. I sent my application in with the 2 letters before the release date Sept 15th. Will programs consider my application incomplete and either not look at...
I am applying for the upcoming cycle and I just started Job shadowing an OT two months ago and have only shadowed her 3 times. I have been working on building a professional relationship with her. When is the right time to ask her for a recommendation? Any suggestions on how I should bring up...
Hi all,
I am an aspiring dentist and will be applying to grad school (most likely an MS in biology) to help further strengthen my application before applying to dental school. While I do enjoy biology, I really am applying just to further bolster my credentials as a dental applicant. I've been...
Hi,
I had previously gotten letters from 3 profs that I wanted to apply MD. I got my MCAT back a week ago and it was low enough to deter me from submitting AMCAS.
Now, I'm trying to ask them to submit letters for twoe-year programs, and will have to let them know somehow that I'll be applying...
Hello all,
I've tried googling this but haven't got any hits. Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of schools that DO NOT require Letter of Recommendations?
Before someone says there is no such AMCAS school, I know factually that isn't true.
Currently in the process of knocking out my pre-reqs and I’m trying to score a LOR (letter of recommendation) from atleast 1-2 of my professors. Anybody have any experience with getting letters from them? Like how they went about asking/earning them from them?
Hi everyone,
I’d a question regarding the LOR. My DO has agreed to write me an LOR but I was wondering whether I’ve to upload that letter myself on the AACOM/AAMC or does she have to mail it to the schools I apply to? I’m confused because I’ve called multiple schools & none of them have given...
Hi All,
I am doing my residency in a community hospital and applying for GI fellowship. My department chair is writing me a LOR and I would like to know if the below option in the LOR request applies to only medical students or can I as a medical resident chose this option as the department...
I am interested in applying for MPH graduate school for Fall 2019. A lot of the applications are due by December 2018 though. I would like to get letters of recommendations from my current boss/supervisor. However, I am nervous about approaching him to ask for it because then they will know I am...
I have noticed a lot of schools require letters from teachers in the natural science department or committees. He school in which I attend you rarely have a professor more than once or they are so consumed in their own research that they won’t even meet with students.
My question is would a...
Hi all,
1.) In my undergrad I unfortunately got a C- in orgo 1 with lab, but received a A- in orgo 2 with lab the following semester. Would this orgo 2 with lab potentially fulfill the minimum "C" grade required in prerequisites for most MD schools? (I know every school is probably different...
Hi everyone. I am almost ready to send off my application for the 2018-2019 cycle and I can't believe I'm asking this question now. Do letters of rec from engineering professors count as science letters of rec??
I majored in biomedical engineering for undergrad. Having spent majority of my...
My school doesn't allow me to submit a request for a LOR packet until I receive 4 secondaries. They have all of my LORs with them currently (they made me get my writers to submit them before the end of April).
I'm not sure what to do. I'm pre-writing my secondaries, so I should be done a week...
I am currently preparing to reapply and I need some advice! For letters of recommendation, I am planning to get two new LORs and use two old LORs from the last cycle and ask my professors to update those. Also, should I ask my professors to update just the date or should I ask them to revise the...
Hello,
I have shadowed and assisted at a clinic for roughly 70-100 hours.
Beyond that I have shadowed more, but didn't track my hours.
Anyway I likely won't have a dentist LOR. I have a comittee letter and a few summers worth of research LOR.
My GPA is stellar and DAT is high.
Will this...
Hello I am working on my AADSAS applicaton right now, and I am wondering how to link my interfolio account with my AADSAS application? I have a couple of LOR's in my interfolio already do I need to send LOR requests through the AADSAS app also?
Is there any way to submit a committee letter, a dentist letter, and an individual letter? I unfortunately thought the committee letter counted as one slot on the evaluation page not three and my individual letter has already been written.... I had them upload it to inferfolio, but don't want...
Hello SDN community,
What are some tips you can give from your experiences to a pre-pharmacy student looking to earn a letter of recommendation from science professors?

Hi all!
I know that if someone is applying to DO schools it is recommended that they get a letter of rec from a DO.
I was wondering if I am applying to only MD schools, is it preferred to get a LOR from an MD that I scribe for or is it okay if I get it from a DO?
Thanks!
Hello everyone,
If you guys read my last post, you know I feel insecure and worried about applying to optometry school because I don't have the strongest of grades. I am asking people for letters of recombination, but I am having a tough time.
I asked my Developmental Psychology Professor...

Hello all, so I am premed and have been focused on med school for a while. But I want PA school as an option also. But I was doing some searching around and it seems like CASPA doesn't accept interfolio. I am planning on taking some gap years so does anyone know any third party LOR services that...
Hello, everyone, I need your advice. I just started working on my personal statement for medical school and I'm stuck. I've blessed to be able to say that I've had no hardships and I do have a lot of passion for medicine and hope to get accepted into a medical school this upcoming period. So my...
Hey everyone,
I will be applying for Dental School in the upcoming cycle. I am getting a LOR from an instructor at my 4 year university and another from a dentist. For my third letter, I was thinking about asking my chemistry professor (PhD) whom I have kept in contact with for over 3 years...
So basically, I've been in this lab since winter of freshmen year, and was paid $1k to do research work over the summer while also taking summer classes (commuting for 1.5+ hours each way from home every day). I was also given my own project (which is WAY too much work for one person, I was only...
If the writer who is a prominent professor and scientist and is a close friend of the dean of the school that I'm applying for, decides to write me a strong LOR how much bias does this have in effect?
I know that on average, schools typically ask for a letter from two separate dentists. I have 3 to choose from and I'm not sure which to ask.
1. Dentist who I shadow 90% of the time at one of the practices in my university's town. She really likes me, she has gotten to know me well, and has...
Your recommenders are doing you a favor, so the least you can do is make their job easier by following proper letter of recommendation (LOR) etiquette. Breaking these important rules may result in your recommenders deciding not to dish out the most favorable review. Stay on their good side, help...
Concerning a choice for my third LOR. Do you think it would be better to have:
an "eh" LOR from a biochem professor at a university (with whom you took biochem classes, but during a difficult time. C in one class, B+ in other)
or
A better LOR from a microbiology professor (PhD) at a community...
so I already have 2 LORs from the science faculty at the CC I attended but I want to get one from one of the professors at my transfer 4 year school. My problem is during those 2 years I couldn't be really involved so that the professor can get to know me. When I tried emailing my zoology and...
I’m applying to PT school this fall and my top choice is UCF. I have asked one PT for a letter of rec already and am asking one of my favorite professors this week for my second letter of rec. Who would you suggest I ask for my third letter of rec? I could ask another PT, my supervisor at work...
So I had always thought that Mcat scores can be used for 3 years (MD/DO) but recently became aware that is not entirely true. Depending on the school's policy, to the date vs. matriculation date vs. time to application. Assumed it would be the date you submitted your app since that is when...
