10 million dollar grant or more, Is MD necessary nowadays?

My sis currently works in this big lab in houston under a famous physician. She(the PI) has over 15 million dollar grant.

Is MD a necessity nowadays to get big grants like hers?

My school also has someone with $10 million and he literally has as much as my dental school PIs combined! Incredible!
