11B 11P 9V Q and i am retaking the MCAT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you're going to retake it anyway, so whats the point of this?

if you're trying to apply to top 15 schools, and you can score higher, then retake

umm cuz i didnt register yet...

what are your other stats?

3.5 total, 3.68 sci, MS to be finished this year, 21 years old

You have good enough stats, you don't have to re-take... But you obviously lack the confidence right now to get into a top Med school. My suggestion, which is worth jack $#!t, is to take them if you think you can do better.

cuz the woman in my state school told me to try and get 35, jeeeez

31 is going to get your into medical school. i think the general consensus is that a 30 or above is not worth retaking, but if you feel that you are an excellent student and should have got a 37, 38 then retake it. is it worth busting your ass for another month and taking the risk of scoring lower??

i dunno, last year i had interviews at dartmouth and ucla and didnt get into any. both told me my interviews were great

Don't worry so much... I can see that your either going to stress yourself out about not having a 35 or about studying so you can get a 35. PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER MAN *slap*, look at your state schools averages, Im sure you're above average. The lady that you spoke to was just giving you the "magic numbers" (35mcat, 3.5 GPA)

i dunno, i guess i will try to get a hold of the dean of admissions and ask him directly.

Good luck!! I wish you the best of luck in Medical school.

hey xenon,

maybe i misunderstood.....judging from your interviews you applied to very competitive schools. if you would like to be accepted into a top program then you might want to retake them, but a 31 is still a good score and definitely worthy of acceptance into a medical school....maybe just not the top in the country. you should apply to schools with lower standards in addition to your "reach" schools. my advice would be to enjoy your summer and don't let the stress of mcats interfere.

Well, have you been studying for the MCAT? I assume you're thinking about taking it in August. If you have been preparing already, and you think you can do better, then go ahead and take it. If you haven't, then I doubt you'll pull up 4+ points with only a month of extra studying.

Personally, I wouldn't bother retaking with your score. Either way, good luck.

obviously you want us to blow smoke up your @##. If you have half a brain you already know the aswer to this question, just look at your percentile ranking on the exam, Duh!

take it again...the mcat isn't that hard.

no seriously ppl. i dont wana retake, but the woman in my state school told me to try and get a 35. i dont understand what those ppl expect of me. they have accepted ppl with lower stats. they interviewed me and told me my essay wasnt good enough...it was the same essay that got me ucla's and dartmouth's interviews. jeeeez its my state school too!!

All I can say is if you do worse on the MCAT the second time, the rabbit hole just got deeper. Take the blue pill and tell you state school where they can shove it.

with your pathetic 31...i dunno dude!! isn't it obvious that u really need to retake the damn test? what the f$#k is wrong with u?
infact u'd also need to go ahead and get a phd and do more volunteer work (try volunteering in liberia, and if you can stabilize the country while u're at it that might get u an interview at finch)
because seriously, there is no hope for u with those numbers.

I wish ppl like u will one day disappear from the face of this planet

....forever!

I wouldn't retake the MCAT. Your score could go down, and you can probably get accepted this next cycle with your stats. Just adjust your list of schools this time around.

I do interviews at my school. I can tell you that you run a risk with retaking. a 31 is more than adequate at most schools in the nation. If they didn't take that they had other reasons. Also I expect improvement. If a person retakes the MCAT and scores more than 2 points lower (for you less than a 29) I would consider the higher score an anomaly...not the lower. Just a caution.

If you think you can achieve a double digit verbal score then I would suggest you retake it. It seems as though your science scores will not change much so long as you maintain the knowledge base you already have.

I think you should go for it if you are willing to go all out.

Good luck!🙂

thanks for the diverse opinions. just what i wanted.

What is this state school that is dinging people pre-interview with 3.6/31? (I assume you arent a cal resident because you said state "school")

I hope it's not mcg.

I thought Xenon was a cali resident...?

Xenon
I know exactly what you are going through...because I am in the same boat. I got a 12, 11, 9 and have yet to get in from last year's application cycle, but am on WL's at UCLA and USC. But the thing is, I DID apply to a very wide range of schools, from the bottom to the top in rankings, and I only got interviews at these two schools! It was hard to believe that I got interviewed and WLed at UCLA, and didn't even get interviews at some less-stellar schools (of which I won't name because I don't want to piss anyone off). Aren't you on the WL for UCLA as well, I always thought you were? (by the way I am am Cali resident, does that have anything to do with the dis-interest of all east coast school with my application?)

TO be honest, I have no advise, but just wanted to join in with your confusion. I guess the only thing that I do know what that application numbers went up during last year (economy, ect...) and perhaps we just had back luck...I doubt I will take my MCAT again( my other stat's are similar to yours), but I also said that I probably wouldn't apply again if I didn't get it, soo...things change with time (I am going to apply again, but wait until next year--since I do have a good job, and want to wait out the WL cycle to the bitter end). Good Luck on your application this year, at least we learned a lot the first time around!

yea its totally crazy...all those lower stats schools just rejected me preinterview!

ucla told me that ym chances of an interview for 2004 r high. the only change to my application this time is the research in a masters. i had no research b4.

i applied as a canadian, im not a cali resident.

my state school is mcgill (in-province).

good luck everyone
