13 more days and I still DON'T CARE about the Writing Sample

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hahaha, yea, that section is useless. just watch out and don't get a score that sticks out (J,K,L).

I dont know why this bothers me, but it does. The phrase is "I couldn't care less"

The first time I took it I neer even thought about the writing section, and I got a P.

The closer it gets, the more I think that I should probably look at a prompt or two to make sure I can do it, but then I think about how many more productive ways that time can be spent.

Is the strategy posted somewhere? I heard TPR has a really nice formula for this section. If someone could post it, that would be great.

from what i know of taking TPR, it's just exactly what it says.... explain what the prompt means in your own words while hooking the reader, giving an example of when the prompt is true... that's the first paragraph

for 2nd paragraph come up with one or two really good examples for the counterargument... and say why they are fitting...

for the third paragraph build on why each one is valid and in what circumstances... try to be as detailed as possible for all of it.

detail detail detail... and specific.... and use examples that are comparable... like if you use an international example for the first one... use the same level example for the second otherwise it makes your lesser example look not as valid!

hope that helps!! :luck:

Cool - thanks!

R...98 percentile. If only my P Sci/Verbal/Bio reflected the same percentile. I would be happy to trade out the 2.

I didn't worry about the writing sample, I got an L on it because I didn't even know the proper format when I got to the test. I've still gotten into 5+ medical schools. Don't sweat it, but I can tell you that it is no fun explaining why you got a thirty and an "L" in interviews--it stands out.

Yeah, this sounds pretty accurate. I took a PR class and I thought the strategies were pretty good. If you look at one of the PR books in Barnes and Noble, you can prob find a few more helpful tips. Anyway, be sure to follow the above format!! PR told us that even if you have an amazing essay, if it doesn't follow the exact 3-paragraph format the MCAT's looking for, you'll end up w/ a low score....that also means that if you have a somewhat lousy essay and follow their format, you'll still prob get a pretty good grade. 😉

Does anyone know of any good websites that give a brief overview of major events and people in history? All you need to do is memorize some good, specific historical things and you are all set! I guess of worse comes to worse I could always skim through an AP US history book...

Well out of the writing samples that Kaplan actually scored for us (on our proctored full lengths), I got an R and an S.....taking it with a grain of salt, but I hope I get in that score range. 🙂

The kaplan graders have been generous with mine too.... but a few people i've talked to (outside of sdn) took Kaplan and did well on their practice writing samples but then didn't do so well on the real thing (they went from an average of say a Q to an N on the real thing). It makes me think that perhaps Kaplan is a bit too generous. Anyone else experience/hear anything like this?

Just thought I'd share that I got a bloody nose during my writing sample... two drops fell directly onto the booklet.

I got a 30R... wonder if the blood helped 😀

this really bothers me too... I can realize how people can say it and not realize that it makes no sense, but when you write it down it glares at you in how stupid it sounds

How about when people say: irregardless - that's not even a word
nucular- instead of nuclear
arteritis- when they mean arthritis (they are two different things).
all's it is- here in the south; or y'all sees.
I could go on forever.

ok so i dont care about it... but i want a respectable score.. what would that be..? like anything above an O... N... I'm aiming for a Q but will likely get around a P.. that's cool right?

Highest I have made on a diag yet is M and I cannot motivate myself to give a damn when I am still trying like heck to get a handle on how S character differential between alkenes and alkynes results in the alkene being shifted further downfield, even though, it seems to have less S character.

WGAF about riting, u cun tale I dont.

For one day I wanna be Izac Nuton and leave my PS troubles in the dust.
