hey all--here's a somewhat irrelevent question that has been bothering me since i started college:

this is my first semester here at a "big name" school (i transferred from george washington).

taking the prereq courses for my major (neurobio), and the typical freshmen classes.

im worried that my gpa is going to be much lower than what id like to end up with for the first go-around. im expecting a 3.0

i know there are some folks on this thread who are attending the same university; but im curious as to how other guys did their first semester and whether they were stressing about it as much as i am.

i suppose im looking either for comfort or persuasion!

how sad--to bump my own post without any replies. geez. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I would not worry so much about one semester's worth of grades. The admissions committee knows Cornell is a tough school. However, get your grades up - immediately. If you show improvement through your senior year you will be fine. It really does not matter much where you do your undergrad work, as long as you take advantage of what your school has to offer. Don't get me wrong, having an ivy league school attached to your name is nice, but its not everything.

You'll be fine as long as it's only one semester and you improve after. I got a 2.8 first semester of college (including a C- in Chem lab and a B- in Chem lecture). (Yes, pledging a sorority as a premed is a pretty stupid idea!) Then I studied like crazy and got A minuses or better in every science class (almost) afterwards. Med schools will like your upward trend, as long as it starts early on! Best of luck to you!

thanks for your responses! :)

Yeah I agree....I had a 1.5 my first semtester with an F, C, and C+. Since then I have gotten pretty much A's though. so pull yourself together from now on and you'll be fine. 3.0 is a lot better than a 1.5 even so you'll be ok :)
