Hello,
I wanted to get opinions from med students on the following: I am pursuing an MA in medical sci at BU in the fall during this applic cycle...Biochem 6 cred and Microanat 6 cred are required for the fall. What is another reasonable course to take (I can decide between pharm 4 cred, biostat 2 credit, or neuro 2 cred) I am prepared for a hellish semester regardless. Any suggestions? Thanks in adv.

You must have been in a hurry. Every other word was abbreviated, haha.

:wink:

Take pharm -- infinitely useful.

TO "DODGE THIS",

Let me try to make it to where you might understand:

MA = master of arts
med = medical
sci = science
BU = boston university
applic = application
Biochem = biochemistry
cred = credits
Microanat = microscopic anatomy
pharm = pharmacology
biostat = biostatistics
neuro = neuroscience
adv. = advance

Now that wasn't so bad ... or was it?

Many thanks to neutropeniaboy...I think I'll go with pharm.

This is what you should have wrote if you wanted people to understand you. The first time I read it, I hit all the abbreviations and hit the back button right away. I also fixed the grammar.

Hello,
I wanted to get opinions from medical students on the following: I am pursuing a Master of Arts in medical science at Boston University in the fall during the current application cycle. The classes Biochemistry (6 quarter? units) and Microanatomy (6) are required for the fall. What is another reasonable course to take (I can decide between pharmacology (4), biostatistics (2) , or neuroscience (2)). I am prepared for a hellish semester regardless. Any suggestions on which class to take? Thanks in advance.

I'd take neruo. If you are thinking what will prepare you most for med school, that's it. neuro is the bane of most med student's existence. The "tracts" are very mysterious, and it can take a very long time to get it to sink in. I had some limited exposure to neuro prior to med school and I didn't understand it at all then. It took a little bit of time in the med school class to finally understand it. Plus neuro is on any board exam you will take.

I'd take biostats if you are even reasonably good at math. It can be a pretty easy class especially if the exams are open notes/formula sheet. Histology and Biochem are going to be heavy loads, so in order to keep the semester manageable, I'd try biostats. It's a great skill to be able to read and interpret JAMA and NEJM articles. It'll help you out later and won't take up too much time now.
