I'm planning on taking a 2 month Kaplan course which ends around the same time summer vacation starts.

How long, on average, do people study for the DAT's by themselves?

Anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months. (usually)
5 weeks is probably average, but these numbers mean NOTHING.
If your major covered it all then you don't need much studying. If you just took Bio, chem etc

im actually starting now by studying on weekends

and also taking the kaplan course in summer

After the Kaplan course I studied on my own for about 10 weeks, 8-10 hours per day, everyday.

AA: 20 TS:21 PAT:22

Take a practice test and see where your weaknesses are. For each area scoring 16 and under, give 4-6 weeks of study time.

Also, I'd reconsider Kaplan. Their instructors aren't much more knowledgeable than you. You'd do better studying from old text books and notes.

I had 1 week after Kaplan before my DAT, I think it was perfect.

Started off my diagnostic with like 15s and 16s across the board and brought it way up. I worked hard, and made sure I didn't fall behind in the course.

Any more time and I think i literally would have went INSANE.I was so happy to put it all behind me.
