Does this book coincide with First Aid for the USMLE? Is it meant to fill in the gaps and provide additional information when studying for the boards is it aimed as being a primary text while learning the organ systems?

I am a big fan of the First Aid series. Is it an expansion of the First Aid high yield images and pneumonics, or more of a core review book to be used as a primary text?

Use in conjunction with First Aid for the® Basic Sciences: General Principles for a complete review of basic science covered in the first two years of medical school.

How does the content in this book differ from the basic sciences book? Is it the same information in a systems-based organizational framework?

Does this book come with any online access?

I've trusted the First Aid series for all of my test preparation needs.

You mention that it is meant to be "Use in conjunction with First Aid for the® Basic Sciences: General Principles for a complete review of basic science covered in the first two years of medical school"

Does either book reference each other to facilitate cross-referencing? D

im foreign graduate medical doctor attending to prepare for usmle step 1 , i realise that everybody in the forum recommend to use the first aid book as base , what else can be helpful , thank you

Hi, what would be the best way to use this book together with First Aid for Step 1? Thanks.

It is a great course companion volume to review and emphasize core USMLE Step 1 topicwith a full-color format that integrates clinical images and mnemonics. It can also be used for USMLE Step 1 review with the entire family of First Aid Step 1 books.

If you are studying for the exam the three First Aid books for the USMLE Step 1 should provide you with a complete package. First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 is a high yield content review. First Aid Cases for the USMLE Step 1, provides 400 cases that prepare you to answer questions on the USMLE Step 1 and First Aid Q&A for the USMLE Step 1 provides 1,000 board style questions with detailed explanations for both right and wrong answers.

It covers all aspects of the organ systems, although the following topics are covered in more detail in the General Principles volume: Cellular and Gross Anatomy and Histology; Behavioral Science; Biochemistry; Embryology; Microbiology; Immunology (principles and immunopathology); Pathology; and general Pharmacology (pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology).

Both First Aid for the Basic Sciences books work together in the same manner to provide a complete review of the first two years of basic science courses. The General Principles book provides additional detail and background information for the related, same-named chapter in First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. Likewise, the Organ Systems book provides far greater detail on the Organ Systems topic chapters from First Aid Step 1. The books are full color throughout with hundreds of illustrations that are not in First Aid Step 1. They provide a solid framework for learning, understanding, and remembering essential basic science information for success on course exams.

Use these books during your coursework and as early board prep. When it comes time to study for Step 1, use the Step 1 book and refer back to these for additional detail when you need it. Step 1 covers the same material in approx. 500 pages (versus approx. 1500 pages of content in the two Basic Sciences books) so naturally Step 1 presumes a lot of fundamental knowledge. Step 1 is a true review book, while these new books are more didactic and good for primary learning in addition to a detailed review of Step 1 topics.

My school uses a systems based curriculum. How is this text organized? In what way does it break down to correlate to the systems?
