I agree that holding multiple acceptances is unfair. I withdrew from all my other schools in the beginning of February (as soon as I got my first acceptance). My hope was that others would benefit from my early withdrawls. I hope other multiple acceptance holders feel the same and withdraw as soon as possible.

It might be more informative (or better yet serve as encouragement) if there was a thread that listed schools and the number of withdrawals done here on SDN.

Anyway, let's list the schools you have withdrawn from and the date accepted and the date withdrew. If you want credit for your good deed, just add your name. Then people can ask you specific questions about how they can gert in.

For example:

Uniersity of Florida
Doctora Foxy (3/15, 3/20)

This example would show that I got in on 3/15 and WD 3/20

Or maybe just list the schools with the dtae you withdrew so we can get an idea of what spots are opening up.
 
I wish people would stop bugging out about this. I am holding onto three acceptances right now and I will withdraw when I figure out if I get any Aid....

I think most people do this. Don't worry about it. most schools are not going to show ANY waitlist movement until after may 15th anyways. So pressuring us to withdraw now is only going to irritate us and make us wonder if we made the right decision.

In addition, most of the people who continually are saying "Hurry up and choose and get off so you can make people on w/l happy" are the ones who are ALSO saying "go where you will be happy...rankings don't matter". Okay, well this is four years of my life and four years of spending money and four years of moving to a place where I will have never experienced for more than a few hours. For me, going from suburb life to Manhatten. I have a few issues about that and I want the next month to think about it and make sure it is what I really want to do. I already withdrew from about 7 or 8 waitlist spots and a couple of them I even think I might have done too hastily b/c I had not fully given those schools thought. But whatever....If you pressure us into moving out too fast, then you are pressuring us to take a big look at the rankings as well! B/c most schools haven't had a second look weekend yet and I hate going off just one impression of a school (which is what I did when I withdrew from a few schools...)...

Sorry. I know you guys are anxious...but I personally can't take pressure from your side too...
 
I think keeping your applications active even though you are not considering attending given schools is equally unnecessary. I guess people want to know if they "would have" been interviewed at a school. Why make the ADCOM waste its time evaluating your app when you are just going to decline an interview. It mucks up the process.

Just an aside...sorry.

There should be courtesy guidelines for applicants.
 
I agree with Scooby. There is nothing wrong with holding a few acceptances until May 15. (Well maybe holding on to more than like 5 is a bit excessive) We are playing by the rules. If some people have their minds made up already, more power to them but stop trying to make the rest of us feel bad. Many of us have our own very valid reasons for not having settled on one school yet. Respect that. (Financial aid is a BIG one for some of us). This is the biggest decision many of us (most?) of us have ever made. I understand the anxiety of those waitlisted but truly it will all shake out in the end.
 
I understand why others are holding multiple acceptances. But it wouldn't hurt for people to post the schools they've withdrawn. Keeping down stress is the best thing fellow applicants can give to each other.

Financial Aid is a big thing, so there should be no guilt in holding multiple acceptances as long as they are based on those reasons. My feeling though is that even posting the schools that one is holding such acceptances and actually debating about pros and cons can actaully help those people waiting by giving some clear picture of their chances and how the school is faring in their selections.

Sorry if we're pressuring you guys.. This thread is mainly for someone who procrastinates to May15th. Scooby: of those 7 or 8 waitlist spots you dropped, 2 or 3 of them must have been pretty to easy to let go right? I've edited the 1st post...

I'm not saying that holding multiple acceptances is unfair because it is necessary for many of you. But if you got into your first choice, you can withdraw from all schools or at least the ones where you know you'd be less happy, and is more expensive, suckier, etc... right?

The main thing is...don't worry about getting in off waitlists until after May 15th.
 
You guys are absolutely right! I know exactly what you're feeling. I was wait listed for two straight years with NO acceptances. Now that I have a few of them, I'm so reluctant to give them up - only because I've been waiting for them for so long. But I've been thinking, and it's not fair. I'm definitely withdrawing my acceptances from Temple and Tufts on Monday. I sincerely hope that helps someone. Honestly I do. Best of luck, everyone!

I've withdrawn from NYMC about a month ago, post acceptance, as well as the rest of the schools I've been waitlisted (UMDNJ RWJ, Newark and SUNY Syracuse.

(PS. i know this is a moot point now Scooby and qualieggs, since we seem to see eye to eye on this now. but i'm leaving this post up for people that want to make a similar complaint)
 
I recently withdrew post-acceptance from NYMC (about a month ago), pre-interview from Jefferson, MCW, Albany, and MCP (last week), and VCU/MCV post-waitlist (today)....maybe that'll help someone...I hope :)
 
I'm going to send my withdrawal letter from Finch on Monday, hopefully someone can take the spot.
 
Now Finch makes me angry with the $100 non-refundable deposit.
 
I withdrew from MCPHU and St. Louis U post acceptance in Jan and Feb, respectively.
 
I withdrew post-acceptance from Tulane, Vermont, MCV, St. Louis, Finch, and New York Med and post-waitlist from Wake and Georgetown. If it makes people feel better, the longest I held onto two acceptances was two days. Good luck to everyone, I naively and optimistically believe that it will all work out for the best in the end so stay positive and good luck!

I withdrew from Downstate and NYU a while back. I am about to decide between Pitt and Columbia after I come back from their second look weekends. I dont think either school will give me a significant financial aid package so I am not really waiting for that
 
I already withdrew from Einstein, and will soon be withdrawing from Tufts. I'm waiting on Pitt and Penn's financial aid packages. But I'm in love with Duke!

Thank you guys. I've been trying to keep track of the withdrawn school and by who. Simply post the school u've withdrew and I'll add it to the first post. No need to make tons of lists :)
 
Hi - I'm adding NJMS and Downstate. I'm just waiting for my aid packages to come in to decide between Sinai and Einstein
 
Can someone add my info to the list (I still haven't gotten the hang of that.) Withdrew post-acceptance at Tulane, U Illinois, and UCONN. I'm really hoping to get off the waitlist at Penn so make up decisions quickly please!

I just withdrew from Tufts, and took my name off the waitlists at Cornell, Columbia and UConn. Dr. L, if I get into Duke I'll give up my spot at Penn in a flash!

Hero, I just noticed that there are 2 entries for Pitt on your first post in this thread. One is "Pitt" and the other is "U Pittsburgh."

Also, could you remove the duplicate entry for me under "Einstein," and add my name next to Duke in the first choice but waitlisted section? Thanks! This thread is great!
