See at Residencyandfellowship.com:

My former colleague left out this letter I sent to Dr. Weinerth when I was unable to attend a meeting he held with The family medicine residents to discuss our concerns.

To whom it may concern:

I apologize for not being present at this meeting, however I am very concerned about the repercussions I would face if indeed I was in attendance. I also know many residents, and especially the faculty, whom I have spoken to feel quite strongly about this situation, yet fear the same retribution.

In brief I would like to add my concern to the growing list. The bottom line is, the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program has been deteriorating for the past 7 years. Nearly every resident I have spoken with, upon leaving, as well as numerous faculty members are regretful of their experience here. They do commend the opportunities and great education they received, however the overall feeling is still more of disgust. Disgust with the quality of leadership, to be specific. We very strongly feel the leaders are vindictive, poor communicators, and most importantly, act very unprofessional towards residents and faculty.

Again, these are repeated concerns. They have been addressed over the last 7 years, but things just get worse. I do not believe they can be solved by forcing the administration to undergo leadership training, or have mandatory meetings to improve communication with residents and faculty. These have been repeatedly attempted, all without success. The problem is unfortunately deep-rooted and difficult to remedy with standard first-line flow charted solutions.

I am sure you will find that if indeed anonymity was unquestioned, nearly every resident, faculty member, graduate, or anyone intimitely connected to the program would agree. Actually they would not only agree, but would feel VERY strongly about these issues. Thank you for your time.

There is no need to waste your time, energy or money to come interview at Duke. It is a hostile environment full of vindictive, malignant people looking out for their own well being. 6 residents, 4 faculty (2 more faculty have resigned as fulltime and now only precept once a week) and a faculty fellow have left the program in less than 2 years!! They don't even have an inpatinet service anymore. All the residents who left but one have found homes at other family medicine residencies with the one exception switching to peds. Those who have left have gone to great residencies like UNC-Chapel Hill Family Mediince Residency and the Moses Cone Family Medicine Residency in Greensboro NC. Enough Said.

STAY AWAY!!!
