I don't think anyone has started this thread yet, so I apologise if it's a duplicate. Well, St. Louis University is not exactly at the top of most applicants' lists, but it's one of few schools that's given me an interview, and I'd be excited to go there. Call me crazy, but I prefer the inner-city urban atmosphere to rural/suburban any day, and St. Louis is a nice city IMO. So I guess feel free to discuss anything SLU-related.

So...admissions tells me that usually it takes them 4-6 weeks to make a decision. This is my fourth week after my interview. Can any current SLU students comment on the notification timeframe? If they don't want to accept you right away, do they notify you of that ("You've been deferred/put on hold"), or do they just not tell you anything and let you dangle until March?

How long ago did you turn in your secondary and when/how did they invite you to interview, I have been waiting on those guys for a long, long time.

I was complete on 8/26 and got invited to interview on 10/12.

I guess they just don't like me. Oh well.

hey messer, I heard about 4 weeks after the interview and theyll notify us via email...i actually like the location too because that means we get to see that much more during our clerkships 🙂

edit: i was complete around 9/12, invite 9/15, interviewd 10/28

Nice. Hope to see you there 😉 :luck: Yeah, I interviewed at UI Carver, which is a great school, but the rural atmosphere really turned me off. I'm interested in getting experience in urban medicine, which I think SLU would be better at. If by some miracle I am accepted to both schools (yeah, right) it'll be a tough choice for me! (Go to a "better" higher-ranked school, or a school with an atmosphere I like more).

Btw, you interviewed anywhere else, gintien?

nope...but i have a NYmed one coming up...hopefully get some more 🙂

I've heard a rumour that SLU was holding off on handing out acceptances until they've had a chance to glance over the August MCAT applications. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

the dean of admissions told me i should hear back from the school in 3 weeks. it is either by mail or email he said, it seemed like he didnt know for sure...

when did you ask mdung?

It's already been over 3 weeks for me. 🙁 God, I hope it's not another one of those...(last cycle I interviewed at UC Davis, and they told me 4-6 weeks. However, there was an unspecified "delay", and in the end it took well over 3 months (~12 weeks) for them to e-mail me a precious rejection.

I have a question about SLU's stats. I dont understand how a "non ranked" school can have mcat averages of like 31-32 with a 3.75 avg gpa for accpeted students. These numbers seem ridiculous yet everyone considers SLU a backup school. I would love to go , or even interview at SLU but thats doubtful at this point. DO they just accept alot of people with sick stats knowing they wont go there and then have matriculating averages alot lower or something? Otherwise I dont understand. 😕

technically, SLU is a ranked school... but at the bottom of the list (#62 on US News).

sorry i am not trying to be insulting, as I said I would love to go there basically because of its awesome rheumatology program. I was jw how there stats are so high yet people consider it a back up school?

I'm not offended. I just wanted people to have the facts. 🙂

I know that SLU accepts more than 3 times their class size...

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled
Total: 3,652 986 502 151
In-state: 236 110 74 33
Out-of-state: 3,416 876 428 118

Hey, I'm counting on it 😉 (the fact they accept 3 times their class size) I don't consider SLU a "backup" school for me. I admit, it's not my "favourite" school in my pool, but I'll be very honoured just to be accepted. As for the high numbers, maybe they take a lot of students with high numbers but weak ECs like me, who weren't competitive at "good" schools because we weren't publishing 7 papers while building orphanages in India.

they eventually take about half of the people they interview but only take 1/3 outright...the others come off the waitlist to make the 50% acceptance rate post interview

and i hope i get accepted outright....waiting is killing me!! :scared:

Pardon me if I have zero confidence in waitlists these days. 😛 You're looking at a rejectee of University of Cincinnati's waitlist, "top tier". Outright or nothing, baby! Honestly though, what is the frickin' holdup? Well, I guess that's what all applicants are wondering about all the schools.

Going to St. Louis U for an interview on October 25th. Anyone else going to be there?

I was wondering why I hadn't heard from them, and it turns out I haven't certified my application. I no longer have the link to the app, so I guess I'm going to have to call tomorrow or Monday. More bother...

Hey Meso, aren't you the guy with 17 interviews or something? 😛 Don't you haven an Ivy to be interviewing at? 😀

when i log on to my status page on SLU, there's a message that says "Saint Louis University has received the August MCAT scores."

but i didn't take the august mcat, they should have had my mcat scores from april! now is this just something generic they post on everybody's status page? or is there something messed up with my application file there...

It's generic because mine says the same thing. I don't think you have to worry about it!

thanks, was worried for a sec there. 😳

yah i was wondering about that too...glad im not the only one!

I get the same message when I log on as well. I think they are trying to psych the April people out, "pray harder".

hehe well 0 acceptances for me; so I gotta keep chugging along!

Just finished my interview at SLU (literally like an hour ago). I'm sitting in the lobby of the Holiday Inn typing this (PS if you interview, stay at the Holiday Inn Express. It's about 15-20 minutes walking to the campus, and the weather in St. Louis is gorgeous!).

The day was LONG! Word of advice: You do NOT have to be there early if you don't have any early interview! Most of the day is pretty unstructured: a tour, a lunch, and an interview, and tons of downtime!

My interview went really well, and overall, I like the "feel" of the school. Gotta say though, the students I had lunch looked so stressed - like they'd been hit by a moving train.

If you have any questions let me know! Word of caution too: students you eat lunch with are ON the admissions committee and DO NOT tell you! That didn't stop me from being conversational and enjoying lunch, but beware.

Best of luck! PM me if you have any questions at all!

MESO tired; what the heck do I do in St. Louis all day?!

Btw, has ANYONE gotten an acceptance from SLU yet? It's been over 4 weeks after my interview already, I can't take this much longer! 🙁

Ha ha, oh please. I'm sure Harvard's got your acceptance all printed out. Leave SLU to us 😛 (j/k)
