Anyone else get a "would you like to stay on the waitlist?" email this morning?

I mailed in the finaid docs early April and still haven't got the finaid package yet. Anybody got theirs yet? I was hoping I'll get it before May 15th. 😀

Haven't heard anything since turning in Step 1 forms early April. I seriously doubt we'll hear anything before May 15th...

I spoke with the lady @ the fin aid office couple weeks ago and she said fin aid for M1's should be out sometime in June. They're only in charge of loans so if you're looking for grants/scholarships, you should've already receive word from admissions. Hope this provides some clarity. 🙂

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard anything from admissions... looks like I will be withdrawing.

"For future career advice we suggest you speak with your pre-med advisor or other faculty who know you and with whom you have had recent
contact. These individuals are in the best position to offer you guidance."

Did anyone who got rejected pre-interview get this message from them in their email notice? I wonder if this is just a generic template message or if I had struck them as clueless in my career choices.

Just withdrew my application! So weird. Good luck to all of you, I hope everyone finds the perfect school for them 🙂

Just withdrew my acceptance. PM if anyone ever needs any advice, SDN has been a great resource for me and I'd love to help others out. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

I am having an impossible time deciding between NYMC and another school...could currents students comment on what the like(or don't) about NYMC, and can those choosing NYMC comment on why?? Thanks😀

Accepted this morning. 🙂
Interviewed 3/28. Accepted 5/11.

Very excited -- good luck everyone! Sounds like crunch time for the admissions commitees.

Same here. I had a (terrible) 3/28 interview, was waitlisted sometime last month and accepted this morning. Will decide within next day or two but right now I'm leaning towards another place.

I was just accepted off the waitlist after interviewing 1/31. I did not send any updates.

Can I wait to see a financial aid offer from them before withdrawing? Does anyone know how that would work?

You're going to have to call them. As you can see earlier in the thread, not everyone who is already accepted has even seen Fin Aid statements yet. See what their policy is regarding waiting for aid, especially in regards to coming off the wait list. Good luck.

Ok, thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. I will give them a call tomorrow.

I was accepted this morning. Interviewed-12/14/2010 Waitlist-3/8/2011 Update Letter-3/10/2011. I am unsure as to whether I'm going to keep this acceptance but it's certainly nice to have a choice! Good Luck everyone! 🙂

Hey everyone! This is my EXACT situation as well. Just got off the waitlisted and am super excited to meet everyone in August. Best of luck to those on the waitlist...

👍👍👍👍👍

I was on the waitlist since December something-ith. I did send them several updates (publication, additional shadowing forms, update letter, two new letters of recommendation), though I'm not sure how much of an influence they were since multiple people have been taken off the waitlist without sending in anything. I never sent a letter of intent.

So I called and it seems I will not find out any financial aid information before the May 15th deadline. Therefore, I have withdrawn my acceptance. Good luck to everyone!

I just withdrew. They offered me $20,000 per year, but my other option was still cheaper. Good luck all!

How many people do you think are on the waitlist for NYMC? Curious to find out if I will get a call soon as well.

interviewed 3/16
waitlisted 4/30

I was accepted off the waitlist last week and withdrew by email. Good luck to all those still waiting. Hang in there!

Hey does anyone know who to address a letter of intent to? I didnt want to just send it to the general e-mail address and according to the website there is a director of admissions, a dean of admissions, and an assistant dean. Can anyone give me any advice on who to send the letter to?

thanks!

good luck to everyone still waiting to hear.

I mailed my update/interest letter to their admissions office, and I addressed it to my interviewer, who happened to be the director of admissions. Addressing it to your interviewer is usually a good idea, especially if something from your interview was particularly striking, you can write about it in the letter to make it more personal.

Fyi, I was waitlisted in December and found out recently I was accepted. Writing the letter helped me get really excited about the school. I found out about a lot of research and extracurriculars that appealed to me, and I was able to express my enthusiasm for them in the letter. Good luck with your letter writing, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Good advice, though I would address the letter to the Admissions Committee, as they are who decide who gets off the waitlist. Just send it to the general admissions email address ([email protected]) and it will be added to your file for consideration by the committee. If you want to be sure, call a few days after you send it to confirm it was received and added to your file. Good luck!

Hey all,
Does NYMC accept community college credits? I took general chemistry at a community college and I wanted to make sure. Sorry if this has been asked/answered elsewhere.

Do any current student have any new reports about the Touro issue? a friend of mine is friends with someone who goes to NYMC (i think hes a 3rd year) and he claims that the value (stocks or something) of an NYMC MD degree is going down... is this true? or am I botching this up cause this is hear say

I talked to the director of admissions this month and she told me that the Touro thing was almost a definite and that is should be final by this summer...she was vauge on that this meant for the school but it seemed to me that things were very up-in-the-air...in terms of how this would affect things such as rotation sites and other things...Everything she said seemed far from definite, so I decided to withdraw my app matriculate elsewhere

The Touro deal is finalized. Students just got an email about it this week. Not sure what you're referring to as "things are up in the air". As far as students know we aren't losing rotation sites and will probably be gaining sites because of the buyout. She was most likely vague because there is probably nothing to know and didn't want to talk about a deal that hadn't been finalized yet. There is no reason to believe anything will change because of the buyout. Regardless, good luck at where you matriculated.

I specifically asked her about rotation sites which will or will not be in place for our class in the city and she informed me NOTHING besides metroplitain was definite at this point...this was a big concern for me in deciding schools so I made a meeting with her to specifically talk to her about it

NYMC MD degree going down in stock? I don't see why that would happen. The Touro buyout gives our school money... Money that wouldn't have been available with the archdiocese. A study done in 09' had medical school reputation 9th of 14th of important factors to get a residency position. It comes down to 3rd yr grades, senior year electives in specialty and step 1. Don't worry about it. Some students care about it... the vast majority don't.

Did everyone on the waitlist just get an email asking if they're still interested?

I an email back in April, after I was waitlisted, and I told them back then that I wanted to stay on the waitlist. I got just a second email today saying they were following up from the April email and wanted to know if I was still still interested.

ok i spoke to 1st years on the 2nd look day and no one seems worried about their futures...i was just wondering out of pure curiosity..im still coming to nymc regardless (as it was my only acceptance)..but that makes sense...the md degree devaluation confused me tho. I just want to be able to do rotations at metropolitan and as long as that sticks and other sites dont disappear...im fine wit that 😀

Some think it's great. Some think it's horrible. Many do not care either way.

Depending on who you talk to you'll get one of those three stories.

What I really don't understand is why people would think NYMC would start bleeding rotation sites. Logic says that it would help the school compete with the wealthy Caribbean schools that are snatching up American hospitals.

I wonder if the recent addition of Lenox Hill and St. Johns was Touro's doing. Those bastards!

whooah they just picked up lenox hill hosp (nyc?) n st. johns (in yonkers?)...thats great!.....like i said...its just hear say

ill be there in aug for the great orientation i heard about

Yep, Lenox Hill in NYC. NYMC already had St Johns in Yonkers (used for family practice), but the new site is St Johns in Paterson, NJ (most specialties).

For some reason the affiliation list hasn't been updated. But the 2nd year students received placement at those two hospitals in pretty significant numbers.

While we're on the subject, I just want to review the distinction between hospitals in "the city" (Manhattan) and hospitals in "New York City" (all boroughs) since this often gets confused.

NYMC has FOUR hospitals in New York City. They are Metropolitan (Manhattan), Lenox Hill (Manhattan), Montefiore-North (Bronx), and Richmond University Medical Center (Staten Island). The first three seem to get a lot of 3rd year students.

Yeah, as if bringing in more money was going to hurt the school. My interviewer was very candid about the process and the fears certain people have with the future Touro affiliation, but having a larger endowment, since the archdiocese wasn't increasing it, and financial support will only help the college.

I understand people's concerns but they weren't going to lose clinical sites, if anything gain more, as evidenced above.

Accepted on 5/19!! 😀

Does anyone know how long we have to officially respond?

Thank you!!

Got accepted off the waitlist last Thursday - thought a good deal about it over the weekend and ultimately decided to stick with my current acceptance. I hope that one of you gets the spot! :luck:

Accepted off the waitlist last week as well! I was waitlisted in December. I think we have a week from when we receive the Terms and Conditions packet to mail it back.
