Alternate listed....more waiting.
Meanwhile, anyone on the waitlist want to compare numbers?

Also to ppl that were accepted (congrats), do you mind telling the us (waitlisters) how likely it is that you'll attended?

Accepted IS! Interviewed 1/20

To all those waitlisted, keep up hope! Although, I'm sorry to say I don't think I'll be giving up my acceptance.

Interviewed 1/13 and waitlisted today =(

MCG was kind of my 'safety school' so this was kind of a bummer.

I declined my position on the alternate list. Hope that makes room for one more of you! Good luck.

In my interview they said about 80-100 people come off the wait list by August. Does anyone know about how many people get wait listed total? Does anyone know how about how many people come off the wait within a month or two?

Congratulations to everyone accepted!!! To those on the alternate list- best of luck and don't lose hope

I just wanted to encourage those accepted but certain of their decision to attend school elsewhere to give up their spots sooner rather than later...i'm sure there are hundreds of students who would greatly appreciate this :)

Help MCG spread the love!

Getting back to the original question...they will review your app with you if you are waitlisted or rejected.

Yes, just call and ask what you can do to improve your application. They told me straight up what I needed to improve. I did what I was told and was accepted this year.

Was this after you were waitlisted? Or after being rejected last year?

Yes I was accepted back in November....already gave up my spot. I can imagine how hard it must be for those still waiting on an acceptance though.

After I was waitlisted, but I'm sure they'll still be happy to talk to you even if you're not in that situation.
This is correct. I called yesterday and they were extremely helpful in pointing out possible improvements in my app.

Hey guys. I was wondering what my chances are with the EDP. I made a 11ps 6vr and 11bio with a 4.00 science GPA and a 3.99 overall GPA. What do my chances look like?

I also have 200hr shadowing, 3years of research, volunteering, and good LOR's.

Thanks guys!

To put it bluntly - you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting into any allopathic medical school with a 6 in verbal. Not trying to be rude, but it's true. Some people have gotten in, but they are very few and far between. Your best shot would be what has already been stated: work on your verbal and retake the MCAT. You want the best chance you can get, right? (Although this is the MCG forum) Mercer in particular has told me on various school visits that they view the verbal section as the most valuable.

If i could bring it up to a 7, would that be better? I have scored a 6, 7, 7, 6, 10, 9, and 6 on the AAMC test. The order was AAMC 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10. My scores are just so sucky.

Rule of thumb is that you want your lowest section to be at least an 8. Maybe your test taking method needs some tweaking. Do some intensive reading before you take the test again, or take a prep course.

The simplest things can make a difference. For me, I read each passage in a certain voice (Sean Connery, Hubert Farnsworth, etc.)

I did better when I stopped "mapping verbal" (Kaplan). I just read straight through at a comfortable pace and answered the questions without revisiting the passages. I would always finish with two minutes left and got an 11 or 12 each time. I got a much lower score the times I tried to "map" verbal because It caused me to run out of time.

Have there been any rejections in the past few weeks or only acceptances & waitlists?

Are they just giving out acceptances & waitlists at this point?

I'm just wondering if a waitlist status basically = rejection since I haven't seen any rejections posted on here in a long time.

Actually, at some schools 50 or so matriculants will come off of their WL's...especially if you are in the upper 1/3 of the WL, odds are pretty good. MCG must fill over 200 places substantially only from Ga. residents...when some acceptees opt instead for Emory, UNC, Wake, etc., spots will be freed up. The game of musical chairs will mostly play out by 5/15, but some speak of acceptances a week before enrolling. Keep your chin up!

Oh, for whatever reason, the MCG thread is simply less active than many other school-specific threads on SDN (especially given its large class size), so notices of rejections are perhaps also less common.

Called up there today, they usually take 70-100 from the alternate list, so no a waitlist isn't a rejection at this point. Just try and stay patient and optimistic, there will probably be plenty of movement especially in May like lodestar stated.

Is there a distinction between the alternate list and the wait list? I've just seen both mentioned..

They're just different words for the same thing--like "no longer being considered for admission" vs. "rejected"--with alternate list being the more polite term.

Just a slight correction, May 15 is the date that medical schools can start putting ultimatums on students that have multiple acceptances, so a significant amount of shifting happens directly following May 15.

It's really a soft ultimatum. There's really no pressure put on applicants until the first week of June.

That works too, I just didn't want someone to read the first post and think that they didn't have a chance of coming off the waitlist after may 15.

How is the curriculum set up at MCG? I'm trying to figure it out from what I can find, but it's a little hard to interpret because I can't find course descriptions. But what I've seen, it looks like it's set up as basics for 5 weeks then it moves into teaching normal physiology by system then second year it teaches abnormal physiology by system. Is this correct? So it's not integrated (teaches you normal and abnormal at the same time)?

Also, how are tests administered? Computerized? Do they try to mimic Step 1? Are shelf exams used?

I am not a hundred percent sure on this and I hope some actual students there can correct me if I am wrong but I heard that they separate everything by the system or organ for their phases. So say they are looking at the heart. They will teach you everything on how it works. The physiology, biochemistry, and anything else. Then the second year they focus on how to fix those things that have gone wrong. Once again I am not a hundred percent sure on all this though.

I do know for sure that tests are computerized. The reason why they teach all aspects of the organs is so when you take the test you aren't asked what is the biochemistry of this because that is not how it't done on the Step 1.
