on the MSAR it says there are 194 spots for this year's class (so I will assume last year is 194).

Looking at this year's match list, only 172 were matched according to their website: http://www.nymc.edu/Medical/match/2012/results.htm

So there would be 22 applicants that did not match. The national average is 5% do not match. According to this, 11% of the class did not match this year. I am not alarmed by this because it is based on individual performance but 2011 results show that every single student matched (http://www.nymc.edu/Medical/match/2011/results.htm). Just wondering what happened?

edit:
All other years seem to have around high 180's except for 2007 (177) but the match list looked competitive (by looking at the programs matched in).

Don't assume they didn't match. A few possibilities:

1) They didn't graduate and said, "screw it"
2) They transferred to another school
3) They got held back
4) They took time off for research or personal reasons
5) They didn't match

If the number of matches goes up in the coming days, then they got their spots in the scramble. Otherwise, you're looking at numbers 1 to 4.

I also had this experience, so I'm glad I'm not alone! I was kind of freaking out for a bit. But we did share some good conversation, so I still enjoyed the interview. Can't wait to hear back!

I had the most uncomfortable interview. He asked me "why medicine" three times. I must have said something right in one of those three times since I was accepted! Maybe it was a pressure interview.

Excellent news, congrats! I'm still fully expecting a rejection haha. Two more weeks!

Hmm...options 1-4 don't sound very desirable either--except perhaps number 4.

However, is it possible that NYMC has increased its class size about 20 people (per the request of the AMA) in the past four years? Also,it might be helpful to hear from a current 4th year, if you get the opportunityto talk to one.

I was informed by a current student that the class size is smaller for c/o 2012 and some took time off for research and family. Sorry to have alarmed some of you. It was just an observation.

Thank you for sharing that. When I saw it I was concerned too since 22 is a higher number than what I would have expected. Good to know :)

Yeah, 2012 did start out with fewer people. New classes are a little bigger.

Just a quick question for current NYMC students:

During the first two years how do most students take notes? Laptop/paper/tablet? And are the lecture slides available beforehand?

Thanks!

I know in addition to whatever students do themselves, the scribe service is pretty popular. They mentioned it during my interview day. Students get paid to transcribe the lectures for the rest of their classmates based on the lecture recordings. Seems highly useful!

If it is a school you would attend if accepted, go. They accept students til pretty much the very last day and lots of waitlist movement.

If you've already been accepted by a state school and want to stay in Florida though, then I would say pass.

edit: or even Miami since its tuition isn't that high either.

Thanks! I do know about this service but I'm curious how do students personally notes during the lecture and when are the slides available?

So I'm pretty sure our class (2012) started out somewhere in the 180s. We did gain/lose some students along the way.
Some students have decelerated in the program and will be matching next year. Several students (I can think of 6 off the top of my head so I'm sure that I'm missing a few) took time off for research opportunities all over the US including the prestigious Doris Duke fellowships. Others took time to pursue other opportunities.
I'm biased, but I think we have a pretty awesome match list.

Quick question, does waitlist movement occur at all before May 15th? I'm curious as to when the optimal time to send a letter of intent would be.

I'm not sure when the movement would occur, but I can only imagine that big moves happen after may 15 and people haven't paid their deposits. I would say to send a letter asap! I don't think it would hurt at all, and possibly even give them an opportunity to review your file before some that waited until after D day.
Best of luck!

I've been waiting a while to write this. ACCEPTED TODAY!! Received the email this morning at work and still can't believe it. I think I read it over thirty eight thousand times. Can't wait to celebrate tonight.

Quick question: How did you guys respond to the acceptance email? I just wrote thank you very much and I accept the offer of admission. Is there a deposit I am supposed to send?

CONGRATS!!

That's what I wrote in my e-mail. Then I received the certiphi and finaid email over the next couple of days. A week later, snail mail with terms and conditions to sign, which states the $100 deposit requirement.

Accepted today as well.

If I end up going here, my first task will be to convert that 49ner loving guy on these boards to a Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Instead of that Mississippi LB picture, he'll adopt a James Harrison photo as his Avatar.

sorry for all of the questions, but did they acknowledge your email response to their acceptance? I responded this afternoon and didn't receive anything else. only reason why i am asking is because the other schools did respond promptly

I got a foolish friend who went through the misery of 49ers fans the last 10+ years. I have enough practice. Plus, the Black and Gold is nationwide, ever go to a game where the Steelers are playing on the road??? 1/3rd of the Stadium are Steelers fans.

Don't Worry, You'll Come around. No More worrying about Babying Alex Smith as if he was glass when you have certified Tough guy Big Ben at the helm. You have a problem when you are afraid of letting your QB throw more than 15 times a game.

how was your previous interview btw? did it go well?

After all these years, Alex Smith turned out to be a decent quarterback... FINALLY. I was so mad when they didn't pick Aaron Rogers. We have the best defense in the NFL and all the starters are returning. Solid as a rock. I myself was a linebacker so it's great to see Willis dominate the field.

I used to like the Steelers when they had "the Bus" and Hines "always smiling" Ward. But now that they are gone, I have no interest in the iron curtain or Ben's burger. Also, my second team is the Ravens ;)

Most of my interviews went well, at least I thought they did.

If I hear another person say Alex Smith sucks I'm gonna go crazy with my friend. A managed QB isn't Decent. A managed Mark Sanchez with heavy focus on Run and Good D (aka the current 49ers) doesn't mean Sanchez is good. Fast forward to last year. LT is old, Shonn Green is not the real deal, Oline is shaky and Sanchez can't throw to a green jersey or further than 25 yards.

Blah, blah, blah, blah Best Defense in the NFL blah, blah, blah blah,

Um.. No, the official listing of Best Defense of 2011 was the Pittsburgh Steelers, same as 2010, and most years of the 2000s. Good Try though. I'll give Willis his Credit though.

Steelers Motto has always been next man up, Plug and Play like the USB standard. We lose Rod Woodson, next, We lose QBs like Mike Tomzach and Neil Odonnell, next. We lose Kevin Green, Levon Kirkland, Hardy Nickerson, Earl Holmes, Kendrell Bell, Breston Buckner, Joey Porter, Dermontti Dawson.... next next ...........NEXT.

Best Winning Percentage since the Merger: Steelers, Most Super Bowls: Steelers, Least < 5 win Seasons: Steelers, Most Championship Games (Cowboys, then Steelers). Best Defense from 1990 until Now: Steelers. So Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, We love them, but now the next crew is up: Learn to say Ironhead Jr. James Harrison, Lawrence Timmons, Lamar Woodley, The Tazmanian Devil Himself Troy P, Big Ben.

Watch that Weak NFC West Produce another 8-8 Stinker next year?? return to this page next December for this prediction.

Anyways, I kinda Hijacked this forum Back on topic.

NYMC is cool, I'll probably randomly show up on campus just to check things out this weekend since it is so close. Facebook Group looks quite bare by the way compared to other school facebook groups.

And Like Always, I wish everyone the best of luck.

First interview went well I think. The interview was cordial, easygoing and I think we covered all the basics. I was just wondering what this was all about. I guess I will find out when I am there for the second interview next week.
GL to all those like me still waiting!!

I haven't heard of this happening, but ... maybe your interviewer got caught up in an emergency and had to take administrative/sick leave. The last thing adcom wants to do is to chase him/her down for an evaluation. Since they can't accept you without one, they simply invited you back, and you'll do great again! No worries, you got this  !

Awesome! Unless otherwise indicated, assume your interview is for an actual spot. Just kill it! Best of luck!

Just a quick question for current NYMC students:

During the first two years how do most students take notes? Laptop/paper/tablet? And are the lecture slides available beforehand?

Thanks!

This is really subjective. A large portion of my classmates use their laptops to take notes during class. Personally, I take notes with pen and paper; on occasion I will use my iPad. Yes, relevant materials are available beforehand via DCDB (including powerpoint presentations, lecture outlines, external resources, etc). Hope this helps!

Accepted!!!!!! Literally an hour before heading to my last interview today. Better boost than coffee could ever give haha

 Congrats!! Best of luck to those on WL and still waiting for news!!
