on the MSAR it says there are 194 spots for this year's class (so I will assume last year is 194).
Looking at this year's match list, only 172 were matched according to their website: http://www.nymc.edu/Medical/match/2012/results.htm
So there would be 22 applicants that did not match. The national average is 5% do not match. According to this, 11% of the class did not match this year. I am not alarmed by this because it is based on individual performance but 2011 results show that every single student matched (http://www.nymc.edu/Medical/match/2011/results.htm). Just wondering what happened?
edit:
All other years seem to have around high 180's except for 2007 (177) but the match list looked competitive (by looking at the programs matched in).
I also had this experience, so I'm glad I'm not alone! I was kind of freaking out for a bit. But we did share some good conversation, so I still enjoyed the interview. Can't wait to hear back!
I had the most uncomfortable interview. He asked me "why medicine" three times. I must have said something right in one of those three times since I was accepted! Maybe it was a pressure interview.
Don't assume they didn't match. A few possibilities:
1) They didn't graduate and said, "screw it"
2) They transferred to another school
3) They got held back
4) They took time off for research or personal reasons
5) They didn't match
If the number of matches goes up in the coming days, then they got their spots in the scramble. Otherwise, you're looking at numbers 1 to 4.
I was informed by a current student that the class size is smaller for c/o 2012 and some took time off for research and family. Sorry to have alarmed some of you. It was just an observation.
Thank you for sharing that. When I saw it I was concerned too since 22 is a higher number than what I would have expected. Good to know![]()
Interview invite today. Complete 12/13, sent in an update letter in January. Probably will not be attending.
i just received an II. Super excited about it. However, Im OOS and I would like to know if I still have a shot to an actual acceptance? My interview would be in mid april. (I guess the third to last interview)
Just a quick question for current NYMC students:
During the first two years how do most students take notes? Laptop/paper/tablet? And are the lecture slides available beforehand?
Thanks!
I'm in the same boat. Also OOS and I'm coming from FL. does anyone know if the class is full because i'm afraid these interviews are for waitlists
I know in addition to whatever students do themselves, the scribe service is pretty popular. They mentioned it during my interview day. Students get paid to transcribe the lectures for the rest of their classmates based on the lecture recordings. Seems highly useful!![]()

So I'm pretty sure our class (2012) started out somewhere in the 180s. We did gain/lose some students along the way.
Some students have decelerated in the program and will be matching next year. Several students (I can think of 6 off the top of my head so I'm sure that I'm missing a few) took time off for research opportunities all over the US including the prestigious Doris Duke fellowships. Others took time to pursue other opportunities.
I'm biased, but I think we have a pretty awesome match list.
Quick question, does waitlist movement occur at all before May 15th? I'm curious as to when the optimal time to send a letter of intent would be.

Also interviewed early feb & accepted today.
I've been waiting a while to write this. ACCEPTED TODAY!! Received the email this morning at work and still can't believe it. I think I read it over thirty eight thousand times. Can't wait to celebrate tonight.
Quick question: How did you guys respond to the acceptance email? I just wrote thank you very much and I accept the offer of admission. Is there a deposit I am supposed to send?
Accepted today as well.
If I end up going here, my first task will be to convert that 49ner loving guy on these boards to a Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Instead of that Mississippi LB picture, he'll adopt a James Harrison photo as his Avatar.
Congrats to all the new acceptances! You guys should join the fb group![]()
lolwut!?!?!??!?
How do you plan to do that sir?![]()
Got a call today asking me to come in for a second interview.
Anyone hear of something like this, or know what it's about?
I got a foolish friend who went through the misery of 49ers fans the last 10+ years. I have enough practice. Plus, the Black and Gold is nationwide, ever go to a game where the Steelers are playing on the road??? 1/3rd of the Stadium are Steelers fans.
Don't Worry, You'll Come around. No More worrying about Babying Alex Smith as if he was glass when you have certified Tough guy Big Ben at the helm. You have a problem when you are afraid of letting your QB throw more than 15 times a game.
woah that's interesting. you should go if you're interested in nymc!
how was your previous interview btw? did it go well?
After all these years, Alex Smith turned out to be a decent quarterback... FINALLY. I was so mad when they didn't pick Aaron Rogers. We have the best defense in the NFL and all the starters are returning. Solid as a rock. I myself was a linebacker so it's great to see Willis dominate the field.
I used to like the Steelers when they had "the Bus" and Hines "always smiling" Ward. But now that they are gone, I have no interest in the iron curtain or Ben's burger. Also, my second team is the Ravens![]()

First interview went well I think. The interview was cordial, easygoing and I think we covered all the basics. I was just wondering what this was all about. I guess I will find out when I am there for the second interview next week.
GL to all those like me still waiting!!
I know someone asked this already, but when did you interview? I interviewed 2/15 and haven't heard anything yet. To be expected, I suppose.
