2013-2014 Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I tried skimming last year's thread but can't figure out if they screened or not last year before sending a secondary, although their website now indicates they do. Any idea of the screening process? Just numbers or other things too? Been verified since 7/8 and my numbers are a bit higher than their reported averages although I haven't received a secondary yet so I'm wondering if they screen for other things too.

That being said...that secondary looks whack. I hate questions that make you be all introspective and reflective 😛

Are you guys checking 'Lab?' if your course included a lab component?

I would imagine that's what you do (and that they could gather from the # of credits whether or not the course had a lab with it). My labs are separate on my transcripts, so I'm just adding them additionally.

For those that received secondaries today would you mind posting your stats or maybe pm your stats to me? I am just trying to get an idea of their screening process. Has anyone heard whether they are sending all the secondaries out at once or in waves?

Was verified 7/12 and am yet to receive any communication or a secondary. My stats are close to their averages...I hope I didn't get screened out. 😕

Just submitted primary here. 3.68 cGPA, 3.51 sGPA, 29S MCAT. Any shot?

You look like a great candidate here based on their incoming class stats:

MCAT
Mean - 29.5

Total GPA
Mean - 3.55

BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math) GPA
Mean - 3.67

AO (All other)
Mean - 3.48

I just hope they like me as much as I like them.

So would it be safer to assume students are more attractive if they strive for primary care more than say, neurosurgery in the first prompt?

I saw the prompt in this topic and I was going to write from my heart. I'm interested in ophthalmology because I had a tumor that was excised recently. Just be honest, that's what I think.

Write about what you truly want to pursue rather than what you think they would want to hear. I think its best to make your secondaries match to what you wrote in your personal statement or the rest of your primary.

Sure enough, lol, the day I post wondering if I'm going to get a secondary, the email arrives in my inbox. Next I am going to skip wondering about an interview and go straight to wondering if I am going to get accepted, lol!!

I really wish they hadn't changed prompts. Time to slam out some mediocre essays, I guess.

Is anyone having trouble uploading their photo? Mine doesn't work. Also, on the LOR page, it says to "complete the required fields" but there are no fields to complete! What is going on?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to tell you that every time I read your name of think of Finding Nemo and Crush saying "noggin" to Squirt and then Crush and Squirt saying "duuude"

1) The photo didn't automatically show up for me. After logging out and back in, it then showed up. If you upload your photo and get a green check mark, it should show up eventually.
2) Perhaps your LOR section looks different than mine, but I had my four letters displayed with the recommender name, e-mail, type, and date received. They only had open check boxes next to them. I just checked them all ... I guess denoting that I want them all looked at? I wasn't too sure about this one, but it seemed logical to check them. 😛

Did you have to send the LORS from AMCAS before they showed up? Maybe that is my problem.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. I suppose the answer is yes?

I had my letters submitted to AMCAS before my primary was verified and then sent them to Quinnipiac with the primary (i.e., checked them in the AMCAS application when choosing Quinnipiac as a school to send the primary to).

Quinnipiac says they received my LORs almost immediately after I submitted my primary (6/10/13, 9:33am).

straight up ignored by Noggin

Sorry I guess I was in a rush this morning and forgot to read previously in the thread! I'm not ignoring you I promise! I just wanted to say that yes Finding Nemo is a great movie. It's been awhile since I've seen it though I should watch it again. 🙂

Ok yeah thats what I was thinking. I will go ahead and designate them on AMCAS and hopefully they will show up on the secondary.

How do we describe when we inspired others without sounding conceited???

From my experiences, inspiration is a two-way phenomenon. It is not like you inspire others and they don't influence you back. At least you might learn something from that process and seeing how others changed a little bit.

I said something like, "In return, they taught me the value of ______" and "Their changes were unexpected and showed _______." Hopefully it makes sense. I think the key is to stay humble. Maybe things like you didn't mean to inspire others but at the end they got inspired anyways and showed you changes that you were not expecting.

I don't know about the LOR page error, but the photo should be uploaded after you save, exit and log back in. You might not see it at first, but when you log out and log in again, it showed up at least for my case.

Got a secondary today.

Does this mean I passed the screen? I had a low subscore ...

I have a low subscore too. No worries. Submit that secondary early.

How do you see yourself contributing to the learning environment at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine?
I'm a little confused on this question. What exactly do they want us to write about here?

I treated it as a "diversity" essay.

I've never inspired anyone or anything in my entire life. I wrote about a mentoring experience. It's not exactly what they want, but it's close enough.

For the Setback question, can it be an academic setback? Or does it have to be only if you were disadvantaged and how you dealt with it?

I just haven't considered myself disadvantaged compared to most people so I was wondering if an academic setback would be a good idea, like having an upward trend in a subject I was not good at (academic accomplishment).

I used the setback question to talk about an academic issue. Whatever you write about, I believe the most important part is talking about how you dealt with the issue and what you learned from it.

If my university is on a quarter system, do I have to convert my quarter credits to semester credits?

I have done 3 quarters (a whole year) of each of the requirements (inorganic chem, ochem, math, physics, bio english)...Each class was worth 5 credits on my transcript. On my AMCAS app, the conversion says that each course is 3.30 semester hours.

Do I go with 5 or 3.30? Also, do I enter the same exact name of the course as listed on the AMCAS? Do I also enter the course number (ex. Chem 330)? There is no separate box for the course number on the secondary app..

thanks guys

I did not convert my credits because it didn't mention that we were supposed to. Also, write the course number and not the course name.

Anyone else having technical difficulties with the online app? I can't save the courses page...

Yes I did. Instead of hitting the Save and move on button just hit the Save button. That seemed to work for me. Also on a different note...I submitted this secondary last night! I really want an interview here! 🙂

Is anyone else having trouble with the photo section? I keep uploading my picture and it says the section is complete, but I don't see the picture!

Edit: Fixed! guess it was just waiting for me to post it on here .____.
