Congrats, fallen625! When was their application deadline? I had one Nov. 15 deadline (UCSB combined program) but I still don't think I'll hear anything until mid-Dec. at the earliest.

...I'm a loser and went through the Grad Cafe results pages from past years and created a chart about when the earliest is I may hear about interviews from all my schools. This is of course assuming they do things on a similar timeline this year, but at least it gives me some guidance.

Guess it is not too surprising that we are all similar. I made a word document with last year's notification dates for my schools. It is helpful to have a general idea when I might hear and also it is a good reminder that it is a long season, since last year my various schools' invites were extended from mid-December though end of January.

It varies from program to program. You can check last year's thread for your specific program's invite dates. The first post should have that info. And if you want to, you can go even further back to check the past few years. I think most programs tend to be fairly consistent, with a few days variance of course.

I applied last year for PhD programs and I started getting invites for on-site interviews starting in the second week of January. Particularly high-ranking schools may conduct preliminary phone/Skype interviews before on-site interview invitations are extended. All of my interviews took place in the month of February.

And in case you're wondering why I'm on this site right now , I didn't like the PhD program so I'm applying to PsyD's now.

That's a bit alarmist. The Chicago School has three campuses. The main one in Chicago itself has had no problems, whereas those in California and DC have. The programs at all three campuses are completely different, and the specific issues at California and DC, namely lack of accreditation, are not issues at the Chicago program.

I think what the poster meant was that the Chicago Schools don't fund their students. It's not about the quality of education at these schools, it's about the fact that once you graduate from these programs, you are coming out of the gate with 5-6 years of tuition debt. I totally agree with this poster. Why go into 5-6 years of graduate education amassing debts you'll pay off for the rest of your life? It really isn't worth it. Take a step back and think about what you are actually doing to yourself.

I'm not sure that that's what the poster meant. The Chicago School is far from the only program that is unfunded, and the tuition rates are on par, and in some cases lower, than most other PsyD programs. Those of us who have taken on this level of debt did so consciously (although it's nice to sometimes dissociate from it) because we believe that the education is worth it. I know how much my monthly payments are going to be when I graduate, and I know about the opportunities for getting assistance paying off the loans early if I choose to pursue them. I would encourage anyone who plans to attend any school to carefully consider the costs associated and the earning potential when they finish. I would also encourage them to consider the impact they would like to make on the world and if their education is going to help them make it. For many people, those questions will lead to a program that requires amassing a lot of debt, and that can be a reasonable path to take as long as it's taken thoughtfully.

Oh I completely disagree about that. If your goal is to work at a VA or in academia, then definitely, and I'm sure there are plenty of other scenarios as well. Every school is going to stress the importance of accredited sites both because they know the change is coming and they want their numbers up now, but with my particular intended career path I've not met a single practicing psychologist who thinks that not having an APA-accredited site will make a difference.

Oklahoma State Univeristy PhD program in Counseling Psych is an EXCELLENT program.

My biggest concern is the APA match rate. In this regard I would hope my proactive personality traits would be an asset - eg, I usually take classes a semester or two ahead of schedule to have a buffer in case poop hits the fan; eg, I reached out to internship sites for my masters program months before most of my cohort started looking.

Unfortunately, being proactive doesn't really help you that much in the APPIC process (speaking as someone currently going through it). Most of it is just out of your control and you have to do things on the sites' schedules. I say this as a very proactive person myself.

The only way it can help I guess is by you spending grad school making sure you're getting the experiences/credentials necessary to match at the sites you want. But I think most people are doing that.
