2013-2014 UCLA/ Drew secondary?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There doesn't seem to be a dedicated UCLA/CDU thread this year so some of us who applied have just been in the Geffen thread! They have sent out secondaries and some interview invites so far.

Most ppl have heard nothing. The PRIME and DGSOM program both send initial emails, but you will only be notified by Drew if you receive a secondary lol

I got a secondary last August. Nothing yet. It's still early.

So is this gonna be the official Drew / UCLA program thread?

I think we can make this official? It is hard to dig up information in Geffen one.

Can someone share the secondary they got?

Hi guys, can someone clarify what the difference is between the following programs?
(I applied to Drew/UCLA and UCLA PRIME on AMCAS and got secondaries for both)

I have already submitted my secondary for Drew/UCLA and I am currently working on the PRIME one but I am confused.

On the UCLA PRIME secondary there are two options asking which program we are interested:
-PRIME UCLA-CDU
or
-PRIME UCLA-Westwood

What is the difference between the two PRIME ones?

Is PRIME UCLA-CDU the same thing as Drew/UCLA or are they completely different programs?

I've been to all the programs websites but I am still confused about what the real difference is.

Thanks

Hey y'all, has anyone received an interview from Drew yet? I'm well past the 3-4 weeks that they said it will take to review the application and am concerned that means a silent rejection.

I received an II on 9/19 and was complete on 9/5.

Is it normal if I haven't even gotten a verification email from UCLA PRIME??

I got an initial email about 1.5 ish weeks after my amcas was verified in July for "receipt of primary/under review." It took another week to receive the secondary. How long have you been waiting?

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone heard anything new from Drew?

Hmm.. I submitted by secondary on October 7, but didn't receive a follow up email or anything yet. Do they send a completion email usually?

In the same boat, submitted secondary 10/5 and no word. I called Drew admissions and they said they received it and to just wait.

They don't send "primary application received" or "complete" emails. Only correspondence I got was the secondary and then a phone call for the interview invite.

My experience was identical, except I mailed my secondary with a signature receipt so that I knew when it arrived.

Did anyone interview on October 19th? If so how was it?

This difference between the programs

Drew: opportunity to focus on under served medical communities and MD degree

PRIME UCLA. (Westwood or Drew location): dual degree program with focus on under served communities

Essentially it will be similar curriculum but the Prime program seems to participate in separate activities/seminars focusing more on health care issues. Additionally, the extra year for the masters degree.

I hope that helps!

Yeah, PRIME won't even be sending out invites til like next month or so since they only interview in Jan/Feb. I've got an invite to Drew scheduled for Jan but no word from Geffen yet. Weird process is weird.

Congratulations!! UCLA is amazing! Drew and PRIME are a perfect fit for me so I'll be crossing my fingers! When were you complete for Drew and Geffen?

I was complete at Drew mid Oct and Geffen early Nov (I super hesitated on the Geffen secondary because holy crap its Geffen :jawdrop: had to take my time on that one)

Drew told us that they won't start sending out acceptances until February at the earliest
May I ask when you interviewed? When I interviewed, I was told we would hear back around January-February.

So has Drew moved on to MMI like Geffen/PRIME or is it still the traditional interview followed by the group exercise thing?

It's group, essay, MMI & 20 min 1 on 1

Thanks! Looks like they've added even more stuff since I last interviewed. Excited and terrified to actually do an MMI this time.

I have an II in Feb. Is there a January Date? I was hoping to move my interview up since I will be in California in January.

Yes, mine is January 11. Maybe they can change it since you'll be around...

For people who have already interviewed at Drew, around what time did your interview day conclude? I am trying to purchase my return flight to Chicago for the same day since I need to be at work the next day :/

Thanks!

UCLA PRIME and Drew are my top choices! Haven't heard back at all. Have they sent out all IIs?

Almost time! Our thread has been kind of quiet, anybody else interviewing Saturday? jjswink did they change your day for you?

No, I was unable to change my interview date to this weekend...The admissions office said that they have had a record number of applications this year 1900+. So, they couldn't move my date up. I am still more than happy to buy the extra plane ticket for Feb.

Does anyone know for sure: 1. what the total number of interviews are? (I have heard 25 per interview and 4 different interview dates). 2. roughly, how many acceptances have been granted to date (if any)?

All the best to those interviewing this weekend!!

I was under the impression that nobody was going to hear anything (positive or negative) until after they were done interviewing everyone. So February at the earliest. My student host out there too also seemed to think it wouldn't be til February before we heard anything.

Yeah, all the UCLA programs won't notify applicants until Feb at the earliest. I think the MSTP applicants are the exception.

Hmm. Does that mean Drew works on a non-rolling basis?

Interviewed today and I believe they said because AMCAS was behind this year they still had 2 or 3 interview days left. Don't remember the exact number, but more than the typical "last" one in February.
