Enrollment of international students appears to vary widely from year to year. For the 2016 entering class, there were 251 internationals enrolled, representing 32 countries. Canadians took 1st place with 135 followed by S. Korea with 38, China with 17, and Kuwait/Vietnam each with 8. The largest contingent was in NY with 61, Mercy with 30, Boston with 16, and Rutgers/Case with 10 each.
Twenty four dental schools did not take any internationals. If we discount NY and Mercy, the distribution of students is roughly the same between private and public institutions. The statistical evidence suggests that international students are just as likely not to pay close attention when selecting their schools. There are 8 dental schools that clearly indicate that they do not accept applications from non-US, non-Canadian citizens who are not permanent US residents. Mississippi received zero applications from internationals; the remaining 7 managed to receive applications. Christmas in June.
