I have my interview at VCOM-Auburn on 02/13, does anyone else? Also, does anyone know if an interview around this date still gives me a good chance of getting in?
I interviewed on 2/5 and just got a call today for acceptance. Crush your interview and anything is possible!

Well... Is it safe to assume then that since I interviewed before you guys and didn't get a call that I got the big ol' R?
I don’t think it’s safe to assume anything. I have no idea why I got a call so early and others are getting calls later on. But I think that they definitely haven’t notified everyone for every interview date yet.

I ended up calling the office and was informed that the admissions committee meeting was disrupted last week because of snow and they weren't able to "get to everyone"

Just an FYI to those considering VCOM...we got our match results today for our third year rotations, and they were horrible. Married couples being split up, people with great grades being sent to random, crappy sites in the middle of rural Alabama. So many people got their 6th choice and beyond. There’s not a rhyme or reason to it, either - plenty of people who have no reasoning to go someplace got their top choices, knocking out married couples, people with kids, people who grew up in that area, etc. It’s a disaster and I have a lot of regrets. Be warned.

Can you explain to me this lottery process? There has to be some sort of merit based choosing behind placing people in coveted rotation locations.

Nobody knows. There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. A ton of the Florida slots went to non-Floridians, whereas Floridians were passed over and sent to rural nowhere sites. A lot of people who have spouses/family in Birmingham were inexplicably sent hours away. I know people whose spouses live in the Auburn area but got placed in our worst site hours alway. It doesn’t seem to be correlated to grades, as the top members of our class are some of the ones who got totally shafted. We’d all been told previously that we’d all get one of our top 3 spots (see my post history), and yet a TON of people didn’t this year.

Also, I asked this at interview day but I felt Sdn could give me a more thorough answer. Do you feel Aburn has prepared you well for STEP and COMLEX exams? How much time is given for preparation at the end of year 2?

I feel like a lot of studying for these exams is inherently self-led. I know that we’ve had a handful of people not pass, but most do. VCOM also gives you an entire block of instruction time by a test prep guy which is supposedly very good. But overall, I’m not super pleased.

Online it states a 95% COMLEX1 1st time pass rate, I'm assuming auburn adequately prepares. Why are you unpleased?

That’s pretty standard for most schools - most people who sit the exam do pass it! But I have a few friends who did not, and so that’s scary. I haven’t taken the dedicated board-prep block yet, so I can’t speak as to how helpful that will be, but while studying I’m finding that a lot of stuff is new content to me. I feel like our pathology class which is 100% self-taught online is very high-yield for boards and I have no idea why they’d not teach that in-person.

Im just afraid of not having enough time to prep for boards. When I visited it seemed like the school really is pushing for students to do well on STEP1, but if any 3rd year could chime in!

I mean, I’m not VCOM’s biggest fan right now but I will say they give lots of time for board prep. A whole block! That’s a lot more than most. I’m looking forward to it!

Okay because I'm trying to decide between schools right now, and your comment was making me worry. Auburn is a huge name around the southeast region and the facilities matched with the awesome faculty I met on interview day is why I'm thrilled to have been accepted. I'm just trying to weigh options, thank you for your input!

First, I want to start by saying I am a current 2nd year at Vcom-Auburn. The situation the other user is referring too was resolved. When the Jacksonville sites were lost many VCOM students informed the Dean that this was a location they wanted. In response to that, VCOM took 7 sites from Wellington and added them in Jacksonville. The person who was in charge of clinical affairs for auburn is also no longer working at the school. Although the situation was undesirable things like this happen and when you go to a school you must be prepared to not get exactly what you want. It should not be a surprise to people that when you go to a medical school in Alabama then you might be put in a rotation site IN ALABAMA. Before VCOM-Auburn existed the Jacksonville site was originally a Carolina site and the slots went back to VCOM-Carolinas, now that VCOM is filtering Florida people to VCOM-auburn it is absolutely possible that VCOM-Auburn gets more slots there next rotation. VCOM has attempted to accommodate everyone they can but unfortunately not everyone can get there number 1 choice and since many people put the same spots in there top 5 sites some people were given spots lower then there 5 choice. As for the curriculum it should be stated that three of the highest COMLEX scores in the country last year came from VCOM-auburn students.

I interviewed on the 13th as well and I have not received anything either. I was the guy from Michigan.

I’m the girl from Atlanta. Did they say anything about when the next meeting was and if there were still spots open?

This was my initial reaction to the original post as well. Thanks for letting me know I’m not crazy, lol.

Anyone tried calling them? I've called a few numbers but no one has picked up in the past couple of days.

Is the campus closed this week?

I haven't tried recently but when I did call, I called Mrs Watson. She's the application services specialist

I was successful each time I called student services instead of Admissions. They always were able to answer my questions

Hi all, I'm a second year student at VCOM-Auburn. I know I'm pretty late to the game, but if you have any questions about anything (apps, rotations, workload, etc) feel free to shoot me a message. I have a wife and kid so I can also speak to having a family while in school (spoiler alert: totally doable).

Oh, I think you might be one of the second years we had lunch with.

I just got an email about being put on the waitlist. Does anyone know how many people on waitlist tend to get offered a spot?

How many people do they keep on a waitlist? Is 40 a lot for the list?

I'm not sure. Right now, they are only interviewing for waitlist spots. So, to me, 40 doesn't seem like much. The Facebook group is at 112 and apparently you only get added to the Facebook group if you paid your deposit.

Anyone from 2/21 interviews heard anything?

Hey! I'm the girl from FL who interviewed on 2/13. I was just waitlisted. Wondering how large the list is so far?

Waitlisted as well
Looking back through the thread it seems that we are some of the first to get waitlisted. I hope they rolling admissions through waitlisting as well.

Is anyone going to the Dutch Treat event this Friday?

Don’t fret! Was put on and pulled off waitlist all in the same 24 hour period last year! In March! There’s still hope!

They start taking people off the WL in March?!?! I thought aacomas traffic date was in May

They start taking people off the WL in March?!?! I thought aacomas traffic date was in May

Guess so. It was definitely the end of March right before Accepted Students Day in April

What are you guys wearing to accepted students day ? Jeans/ Khakis ?
I probably will just wear khakis with a long sleeve t-shirt. I don't want to dress up too formally for it, especially since on the FB group they said you can wear whatever you like and there is no dress code. But it is going to be around 67 degrees, so I would dress comfortably.
