2017-2018 Texas Tech University - El Paso

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can anyone that’s already interviewed here tell me what time they were done? I have an interview the next day in Houston and would really like to book the 4pm flight out of El Paso so I don’t get to Houston super late. The email says interviews are usually done around 3:00 and the airport is only 12 minutes from the school. What do y’all think?

When I went security at the airport took 3 minutes to get through so definitely possible, but probably cutting it too close for my liking.

It usually depends on when your interview is scheduled. Mine were the first two slots, so I was done at around 2 pm (I was also panicking because my original flight was 4:15). All interviews should be done at 3. There is an optional student panel from 3-3:30 but you don't have to go to that.

I think 4 is cutting it a bit close, but if you leave precisely at 3, you should be fine. Security at the airport is obscenely fast. And even factoring traffic into account, it would take around 25-30 minutes tops.

On my day they also provided a shuttle at 3 and 3:30 so you can definitely make it by 4 if you bring your luggage

What does anyone of you or current students think about thank you emails to the interviewers? Too much?

I received business cards from both my interviewers and sent them thank you emails. They responded with a nice reply.

did you ask them for their cards or did you ask them for their email? how did that happen?

It's not a big deal either way. Just a kind gesture that won't impact your application. If you send one, make it short and sweet.

Definitely do it. You're a professional now. It's common practice to send thank you cards or emails (less likely to get lost) after an interview. I've interviewed people at my old job and it is definitely something I noted, especially when it became close between two candidates. It won't affect how they consider you, but it's definitely a courteous business practice.

Has anyone received any information on the night before social? The student Im staying with gave me information about it, but I dont believe I've received any email communication about it. Interview on 10/19

It was in the same e-mail as the interview invite for me.

Hmmm for some reason that is not the case for me
Sorry. Looking back it wasn’t in the original e-mail it was in a follow-up reminder e-mail that came after I confirmed the day and time. This is all it said:
“There will be a meet and greet the evening before your interview from 6:30 to 8:30 pmat Gufo di Milano Cafe, 5001 Mesa Ave Ste 2-A. 79912.”

Haha yup, that's where it was! I completely just disregarded that email when I got it and didnt read through it. But oh well, still found out about it, went, interview behind me, all good

Hi y'all. I have a 64 Lizzy M and was wondering if I had a chance here (from a top 25 university if that even matters). Would appreciate some feedback!

Hey guys, I'm interviewing here 10/26. Does anyone who has already interviewed know if there is a dress code for the meet and greet? I was going to go in business casual just in case.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the top 25 university stuff matters. It may, but I just don't know. you should look at the average GPA and MCAT for this school and see if you match the mission. I hear they are big on being involved in the community. If you have any volunteering experience or background that is related to that, you should totally apply!

anyone on here get an interview at one of the techs but not the other? I would really like to interview at El Paso-it's a phenomenal school! Interviewed at Lubbock about a month ago.

Did anyone get a post interview letter in the mail with thank you for visiting the campus and all? I am so excited about this school and would love to go here!

I did, and I was told (on here) they get sent to everyone.

I haven’t heard back from Lubbock and my interview there was no bueno.

Oh, I was referring to the letter from El Paso. I was lucky enough to get interviews at both schools. That being said, I have no idea why some people that were interviewed at Lubbock didn't also get one from El Paso 🙁

Oh, really???? I had NO IDEA 🙂 🙂
Might want to read up on the history of both schools and how PLFSOM became an independent institution. It’s always good to do your homework on any school and their program before you interview.

I keep forgetting it's difficult to convey sarcasm over the internet. I knew they were different schools, as I researched them thoroughly prior to my interviews with them. My comment was more touching on the fact that it's difficult to know what specific factors go into selecting interviewees for II lol.

That being said, I can speak regarding the interview experience at this school if anyone is interested.

II this afternoon! The dates available right now are November 16th and November 30th.

I know the answer to this but I gotta ask, anyone else get a snail mail letter after their interview (not acceptance/rejection related)?
