I second this. Have a Match list Discussion thread and a Match List thread separately. All this arm-chair analysis is driving me nuts.

How do DO schools not have this match list thing figured out? I walked out of my match day celebration with a printed list provided by the school.

It isn't because they can't make a list on the computer and print it out in the hour provided. They don't provide a list on purpose. They prefer the hearsay where everyone is talking about the one or two superstars who matched well and have inevitably bragged about and publicized it. Then in a couple months when no one is paying attention and every possible student has scrambled into a surgery prelim spot they'll put out a list and announce that they had a 95% placement rate.

I understand the sentiments of just wanting the lists and I can compile these lists and link them up to the original post as they are posted so users have access to them. Having discussions about the matches is fine and there's no need to create another thread to simply only have discussions or only have match lists.

In the last year or so MT has become very reasonable actually, even the stuff he says that people don't like are usually just the reality of things. I haven't seen any posts that are just random DO hating in a while. I actually value his input a lot these days.

There are superstars and folks with connections at DO schools and the caribbean. My problem is with folks who try to generalize that and apply it to a change in the way DO students are perceived in general. In general the lists are still much closer to SGU's list than that of any US MD school.

I haven't changed what I've been saying but I've tried to change how I'm saying it. Also maybe you are just more informed now and less reactionary. I've also taken to posting significantly less and just liking posts made by folks who are telling it like it is instead of just burying their head in the sand. I won't necessarily take credit for this but folks in this section are starting to take a more measured tone and talk more realistically.

UColorado has a top 5 pulm/CC program....that's why I've become a bit more acquainted with it even though it's outside my geographic region.

Like all of these threads, someone says a place killed it without pointing out specifics. This looks like a pretty standard DO list with AOA subspecialties and a handful of objectively great ACGME programs.

I think people forget that LECOM graduates like 500 DOs per year. Some people (I call them "the dreamers") just see a few really good matches out of 500 and suddenly "LECOM killed it."

I'm not sure what my "dreams" have to do with anything.. or anybody's for that matter. Especially since I have no association with, or aspirations pertaining to, LECOM whatsoever.

That being said, I'll admit I'm an ignorant incoming medical student and wouldn't know what a good match looks like; sincere apologies.

There were good matches. People were successful. People matched into specialties that make them happy. Idk why this thread needs to be analysis of anything more than that tbh.

Can't have those uppity DO's thinking things can change now can we? This board needs someone to blunt the optimism; who better for the task than a friggin Pulmonology fellow?

It must be such a hard cross to bear to make sure the DO's know their place. It's a good thing you handle the job with such class!

What you fail to realize is that you never say anything new or earth-shattering. All you do is hang around to remind anyone and everyone that for every DO who matches well, a USMD could do better. What I struggle with is trying to figure out why you even care about any of this? There's got to be some major projection going on there or something.

    Never change MT, never change.

Here's a look at part of ACOM's match list for anyone who is curious. We were given the results of the AOA match, but nothing official on the ACGME match. So all the ACGME info is from 4th years who posted in a FB thread, which I included pretty much word-for-word. Apologies for any inaccuracies.

    ACGME

    Anesthesia
    Johns Hopkins

    Family Med
    East Tennessee State University
“Montgomery, AL” (x2 - couples match)
    Floyd Medical Center
    UT Nashville
    Idaho State University

And to think, the cat-in-the-hat could have been one of those.

My math may be wrong but it looks like less than 12% of the class is staying in-state.
A quick review of the AOA roster shows that ACOM hasn't produced a single GME seat in the state since its opening, similar to MUCOM.
Whelp. So much for helping Alabama's physician shortage.

Just curious about which one because sometimes the place is left out in some lists. The TIRR/Baylor - Houston program is consider one of the top PM&R programs in the country. Just curious if it was that Baylor.

Although CUSOM hasn't released an official list yet, they have shared photos of where some of the students have matched.

The following are through skimming through Facebook and Twitter.

I skipped a PM&R match since I couldn't read what the sign said, and possibly skipped a bunch of matches since the photo quality is grainy.

Anyways, here's what I have gathered. Feel free to edit/add things:

I really expected more (at least any?) ACGME in-state matches for ACOM in Alabama and CUSOM in NC. What gives? :/

It's a good match list. Honestly just sounds like some of the older students are getting used to it, but it's a very good list.

People are losing their hats this year over these match lists. Like @Drrrrrr. Celty said, people need to be happy seeing that people are matching from DO programs into almost every specialty in both academic and community programs. The fact that a spread of everything exists shows us that there are many doors open for us.

OK not every single door was open, OK we're not going to B I Deaconess or MGH for residency. So what?! One thing I value about the DO students I see is that for the most part we're so humble with what we get, and we don't lose sight of our goals. I don't need to piss on school X Y and Z and say my school is better for this reason or this school has a match in this prestigious residency. I just want doors open to specialize in any field and I'm seeing that, so yes I'm very happy with this list.

And for anyone like @MeatTornado or all those ppl on the Allo forum complaining about not going to a top tier med school or the top top location for residency/fellowship.... life is too short. It's not worth all the extra stress and hardship just to say you went to X location. Once you practice, no one will care where you went and it's up to you to be a valuable, caring, and competent Physician.

Stop all the fuss and count your blessings. Be grateful that we're Physicians and we're part of a small group in society who has the privilege to take care of others health. Be thankful we are all healthy and able to walk, eat, see, be pain free, and just enjoy life. We take so many little things for granted that when we take a step back to see what we're fussing about, it seems so absurd!

One thing the DO profession has taught me is that medical school and medical education is only A PART of my life, not my entire life. I want to serve patients, but this is my life as well. I want to have children, a family, different life experiences, be healthy, stay active, explore, etc. When I see the whole picture, I start to feel pretty damm good about myself and where I am in life. But if I just look at so and so match list and complain why can't I go there, I just feel insecure and freak out and really lose sight on so many other great aspects.

    Stay positive friends :)

Am I the only future DO that doesn't care about going into a top 25 residency program for my specialty? I just want a Midwest ACGME accredited University program that people seem relatively happy at. If I can find that (which DOs do in most Midwest programs) then I can live with being locked out at the top places.

The vast majority of residencies are through UAB the rest are USA. The 2 Montgomery matches and the St. Vincent Easts were UAB program but not at the medical center. Until ACOMs FM/IM residencies open up. I would expect those instate matches. They are working on ~10 throughout the state from what I understand. Don't know if UAB or USA are receptive to ACOM or VCOM-A students but they also have their students to match instate.

I agree it's sad that all of these students aren't matching in AL because the truth of the matter is they will most likely stay wherever they do residency, but really there is no other option right now. On the other hand. What else do you expect if you accept that many OOS students

    Hopefully more did match in-state.

The AOA match was pretty much all over the country as well for CUSOM, including someplace in Hawaii and all along the coasts and major cities.

Here's the AOA match locations CUSOM posted a while back.

Guess CUSOM will have to change its mission statement since a majority of matches are outside of rural/underserved parts of NC.
