2018-2019 New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine NYIT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The generic answer they always give is 6-8 weeks. From previous years they seem to mostly keep on that timeline, at least this early in the cycle.

I’ll double down on that. You may see some slight variance from that timeframe throughout the cycle but that seems to be the general rule in practice. For now I will say this: Word on the street is that they can’t send the first set of decisions until mid-Octoberish or something.

If that date seems incredibly vague to you, then I agree! I do not make the rules and unfortunately I do not know that they do either.

Honestly, view this as a good thing - it means that you do not have to compulsively refresh your emails every day. At least not until mid-October, then you can return to compulsively refreshing your emails, but until then relax. The hardest part is behind you. Celebrate the accomplishment!

And if you do not hear from us right away please keep this in mind: No news is not bad news. If you have not been told “no” then you are still in the game.

Wonderful interview experience today at OW! Staff and students were honestly very kind. I just hope I didn’t destroy my interview lol
Sorry to be that guy but how much would you say you prepared for your interview? How much did you have to know about NYITCOM? My interview is tomorrow but due to some unforeseen circumstances, I haven't had time to prep as much as I should so I'm going to have to cram later ahah

I interviewed 9/18 as well. Was a very relaxed and conversational interview, I didn't have any ethical questions or law questions. The interview was mostly just about getting to know each applicant and I felt like questions were based on determining what each person valued. I'd say know the points in your primary/PS/secondary app that you want to drive home and that will definitely help a lot.

Lastly, one of the admissions faculty told a group of us that they send out acceptances late October week in November.

Best of luck!

Are there any current students that have participated in the Global Health Curriculum or the Neuromusculoskeletal MS degree scholar year that would be willing to illuminate me a bit?

I'd be eternally grateful, thank you in advance and stay classy :D

Can't help with Global Health but I'm applying for scholar so I know a decent amount about it.

The scholar year starts halfway through your third year, so after a few rotations. You essentially spend the year on campus doing research, taking courses on stats, teaching methodology, some extra OMM, other things relevant to an academic medicine career. The masters degree you get isn't really in neuromusculoskeletal sciences per say, it's in whatever you want to do research in. The scholars also function as teaching assistants, they help teach anatomy, OMM, and clinical skills during preclinical labs. They're great to have around to ask questions since they know a bit better than the professors what information and skills are relevant to us at the medical student level. I learned a lot during anatomy from the scholars. One enormous perk of the program is that you also get your 3rd and 4th years of school paid for by becoming a scholar. You just have to pay for the masters degree but its discounted to where it costs maybe $4,000.

There are 16 scholars per year and you apply during the beginning of second year.

That is very helpful thank you kindly for your insight!! And best of luck making the program! It sounds like such a great opportunity.

has anyone got rejected post-secondary or post-interview yet from this school?

Has anyone who finished later than 8/22 gotten an II in OW? Trying to determine whether or not I've been passed up yet.

I got my interview invite in January and applied prior to that date, they keep sending those babies out the whole length of the season. I got put on the waitlist sure but not hearing straight away doesn't mean they're not going to come back to your application.

Jonesboro took 5 as well from the class of 2020, but there is talk about aiming for as many as 10. Excited to finally have scholars on our campus starting this spring.

I have not received an email from this school saying that my app is complete, even though everything is sent and my app is complete for other schools. Did you guys get an email from this school staying that the application was complete are ready for review?

I think I have not received the complete email because of my LOR requirements. I do have 3 science letters but is it mandatory to have a non-science? Thats one letter I do not have

Nvm. Been complete since 8/3 and they don’t send complete emails and you can have 3 science letters instead

How can I check the status on my app for this school? I'm on the page but I don't seem to find it. I only see a note in green that states that "NOTE: The supplemental application cannot be revised once submitted."

They usually send out emails once your application is complete

Says right on their website that you need two science and one non-science (How to Apply to the D.O. Program | College of Osteopathic Medicine | NYIT), so that's a strong possibility.

I will not be sending my secondary here because of the third letter. So dumb.

Will not apply to Touro NY either b/c of $200 + $20 (Casper BS)

Thanks NY State for giving me no home state advantage.

Glad I’m leaving NY anyways... it’s become a liberal cesspool. I haven’t had a choice in my vote since I turned 18. Socialist police state in the urban/suburban areas

200$ for a possible chance of becoming a licensed physician in the future through Touro could be worth it in my opinion.

Ugh damn Long Island with it's consistently republican voting record throughout pretty much it's entire history, such a place full of pinko leftists.

So excited!!! I just received II today for Jonesboro campus! Will be interviewing on 10/12! Low science GPA, average overall GPA, and low MCAT, but here is rooting for the underdog! I have lots of clinical experience and work at one of their clinic rotation sites (guess that helps).

Congrats! When were you complete?

Are there any current OMS at AR in the thread? I have some Qs
Also, if I got an II at the AR location does that mean I'm out of the running for the NY campus?

I got you with a message. But I will address your general question for the group: Yes. If you selected campus preference on your secondary then you are only in the running for the selected campus. If you select “no preference” then whichever they select for you for your interview is the one you are gunning for.

In general I would advise this for those still applying: If you definitely do not want one, or definitely do want the other, then select a campus. We all want to be doctors as soon as we can, but you do not want to be unhappy with your location of learning for 4 years. It makes an already tough (doable, but tough) process unnecessarily more difficult.

Really enjoyed my interview at this school. I thought the cohort I interviewed with was pretty dope and would be elated to have any of y’all as future colleagues.

Absolutely agreed. I think my favorite part was definitely the folks I interviewed with - and I don't really hear people giving that kind of feedback! The school was amazing and the day was well-structured. The med students who gave the tours seems super engaged with their studies and trajectories. I was impressed by the patient simulation rooms as well as the anatomy lab.

Hahah I felt the other way. My ambassadors were kinda too nonchalant about the P/F and like you don’t really have to study that hard

Where are you from? I think it might be because they give preference to people from the area.

Im from long island so i dont think thats the reason. Its probably cause of my low stats. I have alot of ECs and strong LORs so im trying to stay positive!
