Any updates on this?
all indications seem to be that the probation stuff is false
I sent an email to LCME, so hopefully they will respond and be able to clarify. I'm taking all of these posts with a grain of salt
As a current student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), I can assure you we are not on probation from the Liaison Commission on Medical Education (LCME). During the spring 2019, GCSOM will host the LCME and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education as a component of the standard accreditation processes for the institution and the medical program. GCSOM has been fully accredited by both the LCME and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) since 2014. The school is NOT on probation from either accreditor. During the spring 2019, GCSOM will host site visits by both the LCME and the MSCHE as a component of the standard accreditation processes for the MD program and the institution. The bulletin that was dispersed to students was for their common knowledge of the process since GCSOM values their students’ input and likes to keep them well-informed. Good luck to everyone on their journey to become medical professionals and I hope I get to welcome you to GCSOM in the future!
The response from LCME was that all public information is on their website: http://lcme.org/directory/accredited-u-s-programs/
Which shows Geisinger is up for survey in 2019 but currently fully accredited and not on probation.
Some people have some explaining to doooo
Hi everyone, I just wanted to post that last week I got my first II and it was for this school! I spent so much of my weekend crying from just finally getting an II, which made me feel so much better that my application wasn't complete garbage.
Does anybody have any tips for this school or resources to help prepare? I have a date in January, and this is my only shot right now.
More info: Complete end of September. LM 70, OOS, ORM reapplicant.
I saw one date available end of January and lots of dates in February.
Sent from my SM-G920T using SDN mobile
Yay, congrats!!! The interview was very casual, and everyone is really nice. They start with some breakfast and an intro session; be prepared for icebreakers, haha! The faculty member is provided with your entire application, whereas the student only has your secondary app. I recommend going through your entire app and practicing some of the sample questions on SDN, but don’t overthink it! It was very chill
Congratulations on the II! I second everything that @swellesley14 said above, but if you have more questions PM me!
Just got an II for here! Third times a charm with the MD schools I hope
When was the last date to receive notice after their interview
it looks like a big wave of acceptances went out on 12/10 and the latest interview date included in that was 11/2
Any November 12th interviewees hear back yet?
Was anyone given any information about scholarships either at the interview or with/around an acceptance?
Can any current students comment on how generous GCSOM is with scholarships or even matching scholarships from different schools?
My interviewer said that they didn’t have a lot of financial aid because they’re a relatively new school. She also told me about a competitive scholarship for in-state students, however, where recipients spend 4 years after residency working for their health system and in return get their tuition debt forgiven.
Not yet - I’m just hoping we’ll be in the next wave
when do we think the next wave will be?
Anyone still waiting to hear back? Pre ii
Okay, so I'm just as curious as you all about timing, and I took a few minutes to compile everything reported on this board (SDN - Geisinger Commonwealth - 2018-19). I kept track of usernames to avoid repeats or misinformation. A little obsessive? Sure. But hey, as long as it doesn't become a habit...
1. THE STATS
Round 1 -
Number of students reporting: 3
Interview date range: September 2-9
Heard back: October 15
Results: 1 accepted, 2 deferred
Round 2 -
Number of students reporting: 10
Interview date range: September 24 - October 6
Heard back: November 12
Results: 8 accepted, 2 deferred
Round 3 -
Number of students: 9
Interview date range: October 8 - November 2
Heard back: December 10
Results: 8 accepted, 1 deferred
2. CLARIFYING NOTES
Based on the full range of posts here, it seems that those accepted and deferred heard back on the same day. There were some minor variations in dates (only for Rounds 1 and 3), but for a number of reasons, I attribute this to late reporting and not to actual differences in days. No one rejected post-II reported.
Of course, many people are not reporting, so we can extend some of these ranges considerably (e.g. the reported September 2-9 range for Round 1 likely extends to the end of September). However, other cases don't require this. For an example, the end interview date for Round 2 and the start interview date for Round 3 align perfectly.
3. TAKE-HOME POINT
Based on all this, it seems probable that those who interviewed after November 2 will hear back soon after Geisinger reopens its offices on January 2.
This makes sense because (A) the Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve holidays may have altered the schedule for committee meetings, (B) those interviewing right after November 2 are virtually at the 8-week mark, and (C) all the reported data from this year shows that Geisinger sends status updates out at the beginning of each month. Although they're not usually sent until a week or two in, point B shows why Round 4 may be an exception.
While this is only a big guess, I hope it at least helps all of us relax and enjoy the holiday break a little more. You guys deserve it. Happy New Year, everyone, and best of luck with everything!!
II just now! OOS, complete 8/6
ahhh! do we think this means post II decisions will come out today?
Praying for it
Does anyone know what the post-II acceptance rate is?
I wish I knew!! Anxiously waiting to hear back
The post interview acceptance rate is about 1/3
We're all in this together! For those waiting, when did you interview? It might help us pinpoint a date range while we wait...haha.
Waiting on Nov. 30th interview
interviewed 11/07 and waiting
Waiting on 12/05
Okay, so I was 11/7 like soontobedoc123. We're exactly 8 weeks out. I imagine a decision has to come soon, and based on previous evidence, that includes Em21 and Princess Pre-Med, as well.
It's only been four weeks for me but I went through last year's thread and those that interviewed 12/01 and 12/06, heard back the first week of Jan.
Anyone who was invited for an interview feel like sharing their GPA/MCAT scores?
Waiting, interviewed 11/12
3.7 cGPA, 3.5 sGPA, 127/130/128/130 MCAT, in state
That's reassuring. I have the same stats for both GPAs and am also instate. Hopefully I'll get as decent of an MCAT as well. Hope you get in.
3.56 cGPA, 3.44 sGPA, 130/130/130/129 MCAT
3.87 cGPA and sGPA, 516 MCAT
Hi! Thanks for posting this wonderful advice - I'm very excited for my interview here Where can we find the sample questions on SDN?
Also - did you feel like the questions asked were more stereotypical interview questions, like "why this school? Why a doctor? Strengths and weaknesses?," more centered around asking you about things in your application, or a mixture of both?
I would definitely be prepared for those questions! I felt as though I had more of these questions with the student rather than with the professor. Regardless, both were very lax and conversational!
3.7 c/sGPA, 513 [129/124/131/129]
IS, 515, 4.0, 130/125/130/130
11/06 interviewee, anxiously waiting to hear back. Called admissions a couple weeks ago, they said post-II As/Rs were delayed due to the Holiday break
Make sure you look at Healthcare issues in PA and NEPA regions
Has anyone called this week to follow up?
I've been trying but no one's answered the phone It looks like last year people heard back on January 5th.
There was some deferments before the 5th though ugh
Could today be the day!??!?!
The downside is they will not let you pursue a fellowship
Right there with ya...
