I just was offered an interview here. The only open dates are in March. Would I be just be interviewed for a wait list spot? I've been accepted to a newer DO school, so I'm unsure what I should do. Any advice?

I think I’ve read they don’t do waitlist interviews, or at least not yet. I just got accepted and I interviewed late January

Submitted my secondary and was complete 12/2 but haven't heard anything yet. Is this normal? Is it ever acceptable to contact them to inquire about your status before an interview invite?

Forgot to ask during the interview but how difficult is it to be a part of research?

Anybody know the chances of coming off the pre-II waitlist at this point?

Hey does anyone has any guidance on choosing between Touro NV and RVUCOM in Utah? Please feel free to message me!

Got II today.
3/14 and I believe 3/25 were open. I didn’t check into April or May.
Final review 1/31, complete 10/4/18

For those of you who interviewed on the 25th, did you get the email saying we’ll hear back by 3/15 due to unforseen schedule conflict??

Does anyone remember when accepted students day is?

Also do any current students have any housing complex recommendations?

I was accepted to both RVU-Ivins and TUNCOM, but ended up picking Touro (current OMS-1). The main reason I chose Touro was because of the local rotation sites, I just really didn't want to move 3 times in 4 years. Also, when I interviewed at RVU they did not have any contracts with Intermountain Healthcare for rotation sites, which effectively eliminated most of the hospitals in Utah (I believe that has since changed). The pre-clinical curriculum is basically the same at both schools, but I'm pretty sure RVU has higher board scores than Touro. Either way, I think you will be fine with whatever school you chose. RVU-Colorado typically has pretty good match lists, and Touro's match list isn't too bad either. Also, there is only 1 bar in all of St. George, so there's that...

Was wondering the same.

I don't know specific stats, but I was pre-II waitlisted in January last year and received an II in May and got in about a week later, so there's a chance.

Lots of 1st and 2nd year students live at Remington Canyon, Dream, or Spur apartments -- all within a mile or two of campus. Remington is about a 7 minute walk and Spur and Dream would be about a 20 and 30 minute walk, respectively.

A few professors have reached out to our class for research assistants, one was for psych and another for some biochem research. If you seek it out, you'll surely be able to find something to get involved with, but it's definitely not emphasized from what I've seen. I have absolutely no idea about research people might want to do during 3rd and 4th year.

Questions for anyone who could give an informed answer.

How often do you have exams ?
How long do you have to study for the boards, and is there a board prep ?
If you dont live in Las Vegas, how often do you visit home?
Does the school offer any scholarship ?

I didn't have a chance to ask those questions in interview day since there were lots of stuff going on that day.

Thanks

We have exams about once every 1.5-2 weeks, sometimes they're closer together than that, but that's the gist of it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe M2's get around 1 month for dedicated? The school is providing the current M2 class with Kaplan and UWorld material.

I'm from OOS and I've been home twice since August, once during a short fall break and once during the winter holiday, but it's definitely possible to go home for some shorter trips if you want.

The school does offer scholarships; I'm too stupid for those so I don't have much info :D
But for real...there are plenty of local scholarships available to Touro students for academic and/or community service achievements.

@docmcmuffin

Thanks for the info.

When does career counseling and/or advisement start? I’ve read about the OASIS center a bit. Any more info on the advisement at TUN?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have much to say on that as far as career counseling goes, however, OASIS is awesome and they're very helpful with providing tutors or extra prep if needed. If you happen to struggle with an exam (it happens), professors/OASIS are likely to reach out to you to make sure you are taking the right steps to improve/succeed. As far as career advisement goes, there are a decent amount ( about one each week) of optional talks at lunch about financial planning and/or exploring different career opportunities, or some other career focused material. Also it seems like a good portion of the orientation week was focused on career planning/OASIS, but that was all left in the back of my mind once school actually started. They try really hard to let us know they're there to help us, which is extremely nice. Hopefully that at least partially answered your question!

Does anyone happen to have (or know where I can see) TUNCOMs recent residency match lists?

How fast does this school usually send out decisions after interviews?

Usually they’re out by two weeks but mine took a couple days longer because of an unforeseen circumstance that caused them delays

Accepted as of this morning!

As far as the Facebook class of 2023 goes, does that info come with the official acceptance email or do I have to do some searching?

Can someone message me the facebook page for class of 2023? I didn’t receive it via email

OASIS is awesome. Seriously awesome. Take advantage of OASIS and make an appointment with one of the learning specialists as soon as you possibly can for invaluable tips on time management and studying techniques for your own particular learning style. Time management is absolutely essential and there’s a bit of a learning curve. Feel free to PM me anyone who’s coming in next year at any time for tips about anything! Welcome to the Touro fam guys, and congratulations.

ENJOY YOUR SUMMER! Relax, love on your pets, hang out with friends and family, go on a trip... enjoy that freedom and the freedom of knowing you’re in!

Tips or tricks for interview day?
It's a 20 minute traditional interview, mostly question and answer rather than conversational. I wasn't asked why medicine, but prepare for typical questions like why this school, why DO, etc. I was interviewed by pretty stone-faced people so don't let that phase you.
