Can anyone who has already interviewed speak to the time the interview day ends? I know the email said it would end at 2:30, but I just wanted to make sure it actually ends by then so I can purchase plane tickets

How is everyone preparing for the "standardized patient" experience?

Is it really the same thing? What’re you even supposed to do? Just introduce yourself? Do a physical?

The way I'm picturing it;

You have a person, either someone acting as longstanding patient or maybe it's an EM or urgent care scenario, and you gather a history from the patient. You ask what brings them in, ask about the specifics of their symptoms, take note of what symptoms are missing, and then go on to ask them about their entire medical history and what medications they may take on a daily basis. Just trying to build a clinical picture.

I can't imagine they'll have people do a physical. Though maybe you could say, "Ok now I will perform a physical, I press on their abdomen, what transpires?" and the interviewer could prompt you with a result. This is all my speculation, there could be specific rules and guidelines.

I work in an ER and often do take histories and present to the doctors I work with. That's kind of how I've prepared.

Lol so we're supposed to act like physicians before we got the training? Guess I gotta learn how to take a history then. The website just says "The interviewee will also participate in a "standardized patient" exercise in which they will play the role of a first year medical student interviewing a patient. "

You do not need to study up on anything or prepare in any real way for the patient simulation. No one expects you to be a medical student or have the training of a medical student, because you are not one. I would recommend just having fun with it. It really is the best part of the day in my opinion. You're not gonna get much more info because everyone signs an NDA, but just don't worry about it. Everyone is coming in knowing very little about this part, you are all on the same playing field.

For people interviewing this Friday, if you'd like to split an Uber from the airport Thursday, pm me.

Submitted July 25- Still not complete. Have the red check
Will most likely call tomorrow

Does anyone else have this issue?

So how's the interview experience here? Stressful or chill? I'm so nervous for mine in a few weeks 🙁
Extremely chill. It's New Orleans! Everyone is just happy to meet you and wants to chat. A little nerves are good, but have fun while you're at Tulaneand in NOLA. It's a really great interview day.

Thanks so much for the info! Did they mention anything about the post II acceptance rate this early in the cycle? I heard it’s high but I’m not sure.

First post on this thread!
IS applicant. High-ish stats but kind of non-trad because of graduating college in 3 years. So basically I applied after two years in college. Despite being complete at a few schools in mid-August, I have heard back nothing so far. I'm worried my ECs may not be competitive enough for this school.

Same boat with IS, complete in August, and haven't heard 😵 best of luck! If only Tulane had IS preference 😀

Complete all the way today...guess they were waiting for my August 10th scores

Where and how have you heard it’s high? All those past post II acceptance rates might be out the window now because of the multiple acceptance report being gone.

Can you help me understand how that affects applicants? I don't get it truthfully. I've tried to read up on things :/ thank you!

I think outright acceptances decrease, but overall acceptance rate still remains the same unless they give out significantly more interviews which I don't see why they would do. If anything, they accept more people closer to their median stats because they risk more competitive applicants turning down their offer to go to other schools.

So normally schools used to be able to predict how many acceptances they could hand out and how many at a time due to the acceptance reports that were around. This allowed them to judge yield and also affected how many people they end up waitlisting.

Now that those reports are gone, schools have no idea how this is gonna go yield wise. Most likely what’ll happen imo is schools will have earlier cycles and accept people as fast as possible and waitlist everybody else. Things like LOIs will become more important, leveraging scholarships will be more difficult unless your accepted school is a god tier school. The waitlist season will probably go into August now that people who’ve already matriculated can jump ship to a new school after classes already started. I’m also imagining that md schools will eventually implement high non refundable deposits like the DO schools do to ensure people don’t drop out. All in all it’s gonna be a ton of chaos especially in March/April

Hi how is the interview here? Is it traditional?
Applicants will be interviewed by one faculty member or administrator. All interviews with faculty members or administrators are "blind" and informal. The interviewers will be able to see the applicant's secondary application and the personal statement if they choose to do so.

The interviewee will also participate in a "standardized patient" exercise in which they will play the role of a first year medical student interviewing a patient. Applicants will be also be interviewed by a current Tulane medical student. The student interview will be in the form of a "working lunch." All interviewers will write a report about the interview and that report will become a part of the applicant's file. With the addition of the interview reports, an applicant's file is considered complete and ready for review by the Admissions Committee.

It’s a relaxed atmosphere.

Can’t stop thinking about my time here. The school and the city really amazed me with what they had to offer. Really hoping for some good news next month at this school! Do you all know if we hear back October 15 or later?

submitted secondary early August, but has not been completed yet (red exclamation mark next to "in progress"). Is a hope for II pretty much over given how fast they move through the cycle?

Just send it in. Current students told me that people can still submit soon and have some chance of a later interview.

Submitted secondary & complete on 8/25. Went under review this morning 9/14 and got an II this afternoon. 509 mcat, 3.72 cGPA, 3.57 BCPM. Have a good app otherwise. First available interview is Feb. 1st so scheduled then! Does anyone know what the chances are for such late interviews?

Similar stats but I’ve been under review for almost a month now .....

Don’t know if it’s good or bad

Yea. I've been under review since 8/29 with similar stats as well. They'll likely give out a bolus of pre-II holds soon...

Also, is this the first year they are doing pre-II holds? A result of the new multiple acceptance reporting changes?
I think this may have been mentioned before in this thread, but I can't seem to find it now.

Yes, in their letter they give us during the interview, they said mid october they will start sending out acceptances

When did you interview?

It is an amazing school - amazed at how involved the students were for the interview. Oh, and the po boys and the seafood are delicious over there.

Hey, during the interview, did you hear anything about how many IIs (or percentages) they gave out already? Trying to figure out whether they are almost done with IIs while my app is still under review.

They didn't say in particular how many interviews they already gave out, but there are 20 spots for every interview group and just in September, I believe there are 4 groups, and possibly 1 in August. So, someone here said they signed up for a spot in February. If I had to venture a guess, assuming 80 students interviewing per month, already 560 students have received an invite. They only invite 600 interviewees out of 12000 applicants, so I think they are near the end of the invitations. Having said that, please be patient and you never know. Hope you get an II soon!

Are the rolling out acceptances or are there certain dates/times of the month we should be expecting them?
Yes rolling, the letter said 3 weeks after the interview if you interviewed after the 10/15 date.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! I am crossing my finger for an II at Tulane, even though the chances are slim given how fast they move through the cycle. I hope you hear good news from them! 🙂

I am wondering if it could be a good sign that we haven't been put on hold or rejected yet since they seem to give those out quickly. In my opinion, I would just like to know rather than wait even if it is a rejection. Maybe next week will be the week we find out!
