I have an interview with them. Just to confirm, it’s just a faculty and a student interview right? That’s what they say on the website and I just wanna make sure there is no MMI.

I met two other students at Keck's second look who got full tuition scholarships as well- One received the offer when they were admitted and the other got her offer a couple months after she got in.

Gl peeps. (I miss LA's warm embrace)

I didn't hear back either. Maybe they pushed back the date? I was really hopeful for this one!

I think Dean Arias said they had the meeting on Mondays and calls for acceptances would go out on Tuesdays. That's what she told us on interview day at least.

Exactly how/ when do most students go about finding housing/ roommates?

Also what are some good qualities about Keck that you think we should know?

    Thanks for the help!!!

I decided from the get-go that I was going to find my own housing off campus. Re: roommates, I know a lot of people put out requests for housing etc. on the FB group, or if they decided to live in Currie, I believe they have a roommate survey for you.

One thing I think Keck is really excelling at rn is mental health support and wellness, which is not to be undervalued in medical school.

    Thanks for offering your help!

    A few questions:

    1) any idea if I’d be able to find a spot in Currie Hall in April (closer to the time I’d make my decision on if I will be attending Keck?)

    2) So many schools have eliminated AOA and are true pass/fail. Does Keck keep track of your pre-clinical grades when considering you for AOA? If so, does that ever feel like a huge burden? How often do you encounter assessments (exams/quizzes/etc.) in pre-clinical?

    3) What’s been your very best moment at Keck so far?

    4) What’s one thing you wish was different about Keck?

    Thanks again!

    1. I'm not sure, but I know April is when everyone has to let go of their extra acceptances and everything, so I wouldn't be super concerned. From my FB group, looks like people weren't talking about Currie being full until the end of May, but there's a waitlist that opens at some point. I would just keep a look out. If you're really worried, I would ask someone at Currie if you can add your name to the waitlist and then pull out.

    2. I was told they look at your systems scores (so everything after first semester) and everything beyond for AOA. It really is P/F though. I personally am not particularly concerned about whether or not I get AOA, and I don't know anyone who is. To me, it just seems like an extra perk to have for residency, but I think there's a lot more that goes into matching that it doesn't necessarily matter so much.
Re: exams, we have an exam at the end of each block, each being 4-8 weeks long. We also have a midterm each block but it doesn't count for a real score.
EDIT: We had midterms for the first semester which didn't count for a grade. I can't speak for future blocks as I have not yet experienced them.

    3. I got to extricate a giant inguinal hernia (on a donor) in gross anatomy this week in front of a visiting transplant surgeon, and he gave me props. That was pretty awesome.

    4. I wish Keck wasn't so expensive. The debt is real, smh. But tbh I believe them when they say the cost of educating us is far more than we pay. And I'm not too worried about it, I know I'll be able to pay it off on the other side, it just adds a little heat to the fire pushing me to keep studying.

Current MS2 here. Just a quick correction on midterms. FMS1-3 have ungraded midterms. No other midterms except for the Neuro and Hematology blocks which have midterms that do count in your grade.

Holy cow, I just got an II!!!! I AM IN SHOCK. Extremely underqualified but I have strong connections to the school, so I'm wondering if it's just a courtesy interview.

Edit: Only available date was early March.

Sorry if this has been answered already but what is their post-II acceptance rate? And does interviewing this late in the cycle mean my chances of acceptance are even smaller?

Not sure what their post-II acceptance rate is, but they are rolling per this[https://keck.usc.edu/education/md-program/admissions/], so yes, the chances of acceptance likely decrease with time, though I'm not totally sure that's the case.

According to document posted to premed reddit Keck post II acceptance rate is about 55%, though this includes people that are waitlisted and eventually accepted.

Did other people get the email for the accepted students recruitment dinner? Is this essentially their second look?

I wouldn’t stress about that. The fact that you got an interview means they’re very interested in you as an applicant. Good luck!

It may be the diversity event. The acceptance confirmation email mentioned two events: the “accepted students day” and a separate event hosted by office of diversity.

    Could be totally wrong though

Just took another look at the email, and it does say it's hosted by the Office of Admission and the diversity council.

So someone might have already asked this above, but... how do people afford school here? Do most students just take out loans? I love the school and would be thrilled to attend, but I don't know how I'll be able to pay for it.

Practically everyone takes out loans (or get help from family). Personally, I am only using loans (GradPLUS and Stafford), and with the proper budgeting and finding a cheaper place, I don't take out the full COA that Keck lists. When I finish school, I'm still gonna have almost twice the debt compared to the national average, but it is what it is. I figured if I live frugally my first 10 years as an attending, it'll all work out fine.

Mind if I PM about paying for med school? I also will only be taking out loans and would like some insight.
