But do people get rejected without a hold first? The neurotic premeds need to know.Holds? Are we talking about holds? Everyone on hold raise your hand!
(I just want to annoy that guy who complained about it)
For real though, people come off hold and get interviewed here every year. Previous 3 years of SDN threads have examples of it.
Usually in late winter or early spring it seems.
Good luck all! It is a long cycle, patience will save you!

It happens, though I think most get sorted into interview or hold initially. I really don’t know for sure.
Lmaoooo. You just made my day my friend. They put a hold on my hold. First time I've been held in a while - I gotta say I've definitely missed it.
For those that got holds, did y'all get complete emails prior to your hold email?
Same. I feel a small amount of optimism that an II may be coming, but I was always the kid that never won raffles or anything so I doubt I'll get luckyNo pre-II hold yet, complete 7/11.. holding my breath in pessimistic anticipation...
You were all over last year's thread saying the same thing I checked every page and found exactly one example of someone getting off hold, everyone else with an II was not on hold/didn't know because they did portal updates no emails last year.Holds? The truth is this is an incredibly low yield school due to the number of applications they receive, and being on hold mean your chances are very close to (but not equal to) zero for getting an II. That's the definition of a soft rejection. Of course it doesn't really matter as there's nothing we can do except wait! And what they did last year may be completely different from what they'll do this year, who knows. I just wouldn't expect/hope for an II here after a hold.
As a current student, you have a much better perspective than I do, I defer to your experience! I can count posts on SDN but there's no way of knowing if it's a representative sample. We can agree to disagree — I didn’t count the number of people here on SDN, but some of these people are my classmates and those in classes below mine. I wholeheartedly agree that it’s better odds of interviewing if you are offered one right away rather than waiting around on hold, but I don’t think it’s as close to zero as you think. I hesitate to call it soft rejection, but really it’s just however you want to view it. This changes from cycle to cycle as yield is unpredictable to a degree and there’s no one answer.
I can only speak from my experiences and interactions, I’m just a student trying to offer a perspective. I will stand by my assertion that every year I’ve observed, people come off hold to interview and are accepted.

Should I apply to NYMC? I really want to live near New York City and NYMC is pretty close and in my GPA/MCAT range. I submitted all my secondaries in July and I have 3 MD interviews and 2 D.O interviews, is it worth it to send in an app this late? Also, I'm so broke and its gonna cost me almost $200 to add it to my primary, pay for the secondary and CASPER.
Yes I have! I'd just have to send it to them.have you taken the casper?

P.S I have taken CASPER and my scores are ready.
This analogy is very bad. The drop in the bucket is of course all things considered but most people dont take loans for apps- op is prob paying for schools in addition to rent/food/etc. Ultimately NYMC is very low yield and to make things worse, no real secondary means you cant really explain your school fit/desire for NYC area school. What was your reason for not applying initially? If you like all of the places you currently have interviews at better than NYMC, then it might not be worth it for you financially. That being said, $200 is unfortunately a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of med school fees, but I really sympathize with trying to save the money anywhere you can.

Pretty much haha. I was so emotional, called my entire family, wrote an inspirational/motivational post here...hahaha and then got the email saying it was a mistake. Not a good feeling, to say the least. But anyway.. still hoping to get a real oneWhat? Lol that would be soul-crushing. Did they send an email like "JK not for u. sry lol"
What do you think....Is it better to have not heard back or to be put on hold lol?
Valid question tho. Silence could mean that Application was reviewed and passed over (prob for eventual rejection). On hold at least gives some glimmer of hope meaning that your app was decent and the committee may give you a chance later in the cycle. What do you think....
Hold = very small chance of interview. Silence = literally any possibility. The point is the process is completely out of our control and asking random internet strangers won’t give them any more clarity.Valid question tho. Ahh.. the ol' "Schrodinger Application Status"You could already be rejected or next in line for interview! No one knows
Yeah, they send out a couple of reminder emails usually.II this morning. LM 72, IS, Submitted 7/1, Complete 7/22. All dates before december taken within first 5 min.
Do we ever get an email after scheduling the interview? I don't remember which date I picked and never got a confirmation
