2020-2021 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hold for possible interview this morning. Under review 9/14. I'm not expecting much from Tulane at this point tbh but hearing something was nice.

Tulane is def teasing us by taking a while to let us know our decisions post-II. Ngl it's kinda working and making me want to go there more

I don't know that it's malicious or strategic. I think it may be just these crazy times we're living in, both in terms of COVID and their hurricanes/tropical storms.

Yes, the storms are hitting NOLA hard; Zeta is the 4th in a series of hurricanes. However, the School of Medicine is open. Whether that means the Admissions staff are fully working or limited due to the hurricane is anyone's guess, but hope they are safe and okay!

Tulane Forecast for next week.

Hey everyone, I completed my application on 8/8 and just got put "under review" today. Anyone know how long it takes to hear back on a decision for an ii?
Thanks! Hope everyone's cycle is going well

at this point i am very close to doing a chargeback with my bank. I submitted this app on 8/11 and still have not been placed under review. I cant help but to feel like i have a legitimate case here. they failed to provide the review in a timely manner
They’re going chronologically for most apps and only just started marking 8/8 apps as under review. You’ll likely be under review in a couple weeks, if that makes any difference to you! Good luck!

but what good is being reviewed if there are no interview slots left? but yeah thank you for the information, if thats the case, i'll hold off.

Gosh if I weren't waitlisted there last year, I'd want to do the same thing.. I was complete in late August and I also still haven't been placed under review.

Do you guys know if there's a difference between "in progress" and "under review"? I was placed under review on 9/23 but when I login to the portal it just shows my status as in progress.

If you have a green checkmark where It says “in progress” then It means you’re under review by the adcoms.

unfortunately, this pretty much happens every cycle. Cycle isn't done. I know people that got interviews at Tulane in Feb, and I know a few current students that came off interview hold and ended up getting in.

I'm not saying it's likely, but it's out there.

Tulane has historically rewarded applicants that submit right away. It's just the way it is, fair or not. I understand why some of you may feel entitled with the amount of money given for the application. However, Tulane is also an extremely low yield school, and so expectations need to be adjusted anyway.

Also it’s a low yield school that’s apparently seen record number of apps. Or at the very least higher number of apps than usual. So the already incredibly small chances of hearing back are even smaller

Their process being "the way it is" does not justify their failures

Mr. Woodson spoke to my school the other day and said, don't listen to SDN, they have plenty of interview spots left, they are no where near done reviewing, but that regardless of increase in apps, they are not increasing interview invites (which is the same as every other school I've heard). So, I wouldn't lose hope yet, I know several people (like someone previously mentioned) who have interviewed in February/March and gotten accepted.

What are their failures? Failure to offer you an interview? Either way they're going to fill their class with competitive students. It's a matter of perspective I suppose. For the record, I've applied to this school twice and have yet to hear back, so definitely don't have a soft spot for them. But going through this process twice now has made me realize nothing is owed to me.

I got my II from Tulane in late September. Took about 1 month between going under review and receiving an update (either II, on-hold, rejection). But NOLA has been hit hard by hurricanes. Again, I'm not saying this as an excuse for Tulane, but just trying to speculate the potentially long times to wait.

To add, I was complete and under review 07/26, received an interview invite 09/17. I'm in-state so there's probably some bias too. Chins up boys

Yes, and to add, I'm an international (Canadian) applicant for what its worth 🙂

I would qualify multiple hurricanes as a pretty good excuse lol, most of the city still doesn't have power and admin offices are not priority for generator assistance

“Hold for Possible Interview” email this morning... was marked under review 8/19

Should I update Tulane post-II? I wasn't able to share what I've been doing since my app during the interview and have since gotten 600 more hours of non-clinical volunteering.. Any thoughts?

I guess it depends on if you think it'll add anything. If you already have tons of non-clinical volunteering, then this likely won't add much unless its something extremely unique and interesting. But if you were a bit lacking in this area, my guess is that it'd be a nice addition. Take that with a pillar of salt though lol
