2021-2022 George Washington

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What are the odds of being pulled off the WL? Can any previous students speak on it?
Current M1 elsewhere (so you can guess how my GW WL experience went lol). I applied to GW twice with strong ties: '19-20 - Feb interview; '20-21 - Oct interview. Last year I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out how to best up my chances of getting in off the WL -- I looked at prior years' threads for whether GW takes letters of intent into consideration, when and how many letters of intent people sent who got in, when they interviewed, patterns of when the most WL movement happens at GW, etc.

WL at GW is tough bc they have so few Post-II Rs - so their WL pool has got to be absolutely massive with basically all interviewers who didn't get Accepted going into that WL pool. (From an emotional roller coaster standpoint, I wish GW would just send out more Rs post-II). I've also found they're pretty tight-lipped about their process - the most I've ever heard Mr. Kevin Nies say about it is that they have an internal "fluid" rank of everyone on the WL, but no applicants can know their rank. I also couldn't really find any pattern based on the limited information on SDN forums -- some got in without any letter of intent, some sent like 4 LOIs, some interviewed in September for instance, others in March, etc.

The amount of movement varies from year to year too. Two cycles ago, I think a fair number of people who didn't get the "likely" email got in so there was more WL movement than the admissions people were expecting. Last cycle, I think no one got in who had not gotten the "likely" email, and maybe even some who got the "likely" email didn't get in so movement was disappointingly scarce.

TL;DR
There are very few (if any) ways to game the system or to know where you stand in GW's system; Numbers-wise the odds of getting in off WL are low (but *importantly* the odds are not zero).

Welp I don’t feel any better now lol I guess hope for the best and prepare for the worst - as usual.

Has anyone sent updated LOR after being waitlisted? Do you need to do this through AMCAS or can you have the individual email it to medadmit?

Yeah I sent two LOR after being waitlisted. I just told them to email to the medadmit with my name and AAMC ID. They received a confirmation email shortly afterwards that it has been received and added to my file.

This is random, but does anyone know if GW has released their fall academic calendar for class of 2026?

what does everybody's portal say? I cant remember what exactly mine used to say, but it seems a little different now. The jist of the message is the same just worded differently from what I remember.

"The Committee on Admissions is pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate for the first year class of the program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree. A final decision has yet to be made regarding an acceptance."

Only the letter of interest they asked for to stay on the WL.
Do you have to accept the offer off the waitlist (i.e. click commit to enroll)? I ask because I am on multiple waitlists and was wondering if I got off the waitlist at GW, would I be forced to accept and withdraw my other waitlist positions?

No, you don't have to do that. Regular traffic rules apply.
