Is anyone thinking about making their autobiography just a combination of their different secondaries (diversity, adversity, challenge, gap year, etc.)?

I'm not since it explicitely states that it should be a "true autobiographical sketch," which in my opinion should account of all periods of your life. I am incorporating aspects of these different secondaries, but I am not just blindly bringing them together. I guess if each one of those secondaries represents a part of your life sure, but I feel that would be very unlikely.

IS, received email today that AMCAS application is received!

Edit: have now received the secondary to fill out.

OOS, Secondary invitation received!

Prompts:

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

This should be a true autobiographical statement. Topics to be included are family, childhood, primary and secondary school years, undergraduate years, and, if applicable, what you’ve done since completing your bachelor’s degree. You should also discuss the motivational factors which led you to a career in medicine, including any disadvantages or obstacles which might put your accomplishments into context. A repeat of your AMCAS statement will not be acceptable.

Please note: if you are applying to the MD/PhD program, please include why you are specifically interested in seeking MD/PhD training at UCSD.

Possible Career Pathway

Some medical school applicants are already focused on pursuing a particular career pathway in medicine. While many students will change from this pathway during medical school, knowing of your potential interests does help us to assign interviewers. Your choice below does not influence how the Admissions Committee selects students to interview.
Please select from one of career pathways listed below. In addition to this selection, please provide a brief description of your future career goals:

Academic Medicine (Working as a faculty member at a School of Medicine either as a clinician, a clinician-educator, or a clinician investigator. This could be in any field of medicine)
Primary Care and/or work in underserved communities (Working as a general internist, a pediatrician, or a family medicine physician and/or spending the majority of your time working in a community currently underserved by the medical profession)
Public Health, administrative leadership in medicine (Pursuing an MPH and/or working for a public health department or organization; working in health care policy; working as a hospital administrator)
Specialist in private practice (Working in a private practice or managed care setting as a subspecialist. Examples include cardiologist, infectious disease specialist, obstetrician, orthopedic surgeon, general surgeon, anaesthesiologist, radiologist)
Other/undecided

So they seem to be same as last year.

Edit: If you select that you aren't a CA resident, you have 1000 characters to write a "why UCSD" essay.

We have the same LizzyM score but I don't have a secondary yet, just that email saying received. They may actually be reviewing (potentially sorted by stats?)

hm maybe? it's interesting though since there were a handful of us who got it like exactly 20min after the first email was sent, so either it was a stats screen or they started reviewing some applications on friday/monday (more likely). I'm ~3.85/516 for reference

I thought UCSD was like the others and did a more "holistic" screen, but either way, I'm not complaining!
From what I've heard/from talking with admissions it's a holistic screen, I'm a low-stat non-trad applicant. Fingers crossed!

I definitely think it is more than a stats screen. n=1 but I haven’t received a secondary despite LM~78.

secondary receieved ab 20 min after first email... IS, 519, 3.6

Are you applying MSTP as well? I have LM >80 and no secondary yet — perhaps there’s different timing for MD/PhD applicants since the applications are reviewed separately
Yea I am, that definitely seems likely!

Has anyone checked about the LOR requirements if its super strict? It looks like (at least for MSTP), they are now requiring a letter from a “clinical faculty” or “practising physician”

  • A minimum of three letters are required from individuals who can provide a well considered evaluation of your qualifications for the medical profession. We will also accept a single "Committee Letter" compiled by your undergraduate school's pre-med advising office in lieu of the three letter minimum. We accept a maximum of five letters for the MD program, and a maximum of seven letters for the MD/PhD program. If you are applying to the MD/PhD program, please note that a minimum of two letters should be from research-related faculty
  • Letters from faculty at your four-year undergraduate institution are encouraged but not required. Letters can come from any source, including but not limited to: course instructors, research mentors, clinical faculty, work supervisors, non-faculty practicing physicians.

Right, but on another page and in the secondary they mention one letter must be from a clinical faculty or practicing physician. Considering this restriction isn't imposed on normal MD only students it's strange for it to be required for MSTP students.

Yeah that's weird but it does appear to only apply to MSTP students in the secondary. If its a mistake hopefully they'll email everyone and let them know.

Seems like this is a real requirement, unfortunately, but I asked for mine to be substituted for the manager of the free clinic I volunteer for and they said that was an appropriate substitution. If you have someone who has observed you in a clinical scenario it may cover the req if you shoot them an email

Does anyone know how repetition would be viewed between the autobiography and the extra prompts for GHAC? Will the GHAC people have access to both essays?

OOS, I got an email saying they received my application and then 1 hour later got the secondary link! Verified 7/2.

Does anyone know if we can submit the GHAC or Prime essay after submitting the secondary?

So neurotic that I just added this school to see if my app gets past this 55% screen I'm reading about lmao
