2024-2025 Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Applied 7/20. Got the complete email (fair review blah blah) URM. Low scores.. maybe I just gotta be more patient haha. No other choice. This is my top choice.. :/
Keep your head up and Lock in. Once you make it through this painful part of the cycle, it only gets easier from here. Have faith in yourself a little.

So, I am thinking about adding this school to my list. I have been in the National Guard for over four years now. I was looking at the admissions requirement, and it lists a non-science letter. Do you think my research letter would fulfill that requirement?

yes

So I am mostly familiar with Navy, what are the ODS equivalents for Army and Airforce? Or better yet does anyone know the dates for those? I’m pretty sure Navy is 6/9-7/11 next year

Have any regular decision applicants received updates on your secondary? LinkedIn alerted me that a USUHS professor and military officer viewed my profile and I'm so delusional now I'm like hm is that sheer coincidence or did they see my app😭

Nope still waiting! Hoping you will get your good news soon - that probably isn’t a coincidence (running to LinkedIn to update it haha)

Early decision interviews should be done this week! Heard through the grapevine that the admission comittee will NOT just sit on decisions and will tender offers before 1 OCT. I thought they were going to sit on all of the acceptances and sent them out in a wave on 1 OCT, but it looks like they will send them periodically.

Good luck to everyone and hope to see you all there next year!

Any enlisted on here? Trying to gauge how far along people are in the LOR process. I have the memo from my commander but I haven't submitted the DD368 yet.

Not enlisted, but an O. I did submit request the DD368, it’s made it beyond my command to NPC. Haven’t checked the status in a week or so..I sent my memo to my advisor.

Enlisted Navy here— my process was little different. For me, it was just a 1306/7 with a routing sheet and sent off to PERS. May not be useful info for your case

Enlisted Army, Conditional release went through a PAR on IPSSA to HRC. In addition, branch manager needed equivalent of a brigade CSM approval. I found easiest way for it all was to just call HRC ensure chain of command was tracking. HRC is the SME on it all, so everything outside what they tell you is private news network.

OOS II 9/6/2024. Secondary Submitted on 7/20/2024. No military experience, civilian. I AM ECSTATIC! this is my top choice. II for the week of October 7th. SO EXCITED!

Could anyone who has interviewed provide some insight into the format and their experience during the interview?

Honestly mine were very relaxed and low stress. More like a conversation about why I want to go to USUHS. Interview was about 20 min and the rest of time they left for any questions I had for them.

Same. Very chill and conversational. 2 interviews lasting about 30 min with 2 faculty members.

Just finished the interviews. It was really relaxed and more like casual conversation. Be ready to blend in why medicine and why military medicine is part, be yourself, and it will be good. Both interviews lasted for an hour, so hopefully, it's a good sign. Wishing you all the best of luck!!

I finished one of my interviews but am still waiting for the second interviewer to contact me. The first one went extremely well, which made me feel much better. The discussion was very enjoyable. I have 6 years in the military and another 7 years in the civilian world with an engineering career. My transition was the major talking point of our interview. Good luck to everyone, and looking forward to the second interview.

I think being a non-traditional student may actually play in your favor! I had a 10 year gap after my first attempt at undergrad and at first I would shy away from that topic but the interviewers seemed to like that I had an unconventional path. I would say lean into it for your next one!

It is usually looked at favorably— shows that your life isn’t just academia and you spent time exploring other career paths or areas of life than just being a pre-med

I was hopeful that would be the case since my MCAT is on the lower side (507), and I don't have thousands of clinical hours. I do have a lot of volunteer and service hours, though, which also probably helps out. But my first interview definitely was a nice confirmation of the direction I was pushing on my application and something I will continue to lean heavily on.

It's gonna be the biggest troll if they make ED wait until Oct 1st for the decision lol

I’m still waiting on any news. I received my “all necessary material needed at this stage of the processed has been received” email like a month ago.

I talked to USUHS admissions. I was told that they released some of the acceptances for the folks who applied ED but they are going to release more information over the coming weeks until October 1st.

Good Luck. I have spent the past week refreshing my email every 5 minutes.

I heard back this week with the A! Hoping for good news for you all soon. Would love that GroupMe, did you make it or how did you get it?

This is the GroupMe. Please pass this along to any other accepted future USUHS students on here/anywhere you may see them. I am getting off of SDN to help myself from obsessing over this application cycle. I hope to see you all on the other side.

Just got an email with “Thank you for your continued patience throughout the review process. This email is to provide an update on your status. Your application is advancing in the process and will receive a thorough and fair review by the Admissions Committee. Although it may have been a while since you submitted your secondary and LORs, applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee in order of completion and committee member availability. There was no delay on your application. You are just receiving this update because other applications were completed prior to yours.”
